BILL BEHRENS NWA NOTES for 11-29-05

11/22 Wildside Soddy Daisy Show Report
 By: Larry Goodman

NWA Wildside (minus Bill Behrens) returned “for one night only” in the unlikely town of Soddy Daisy, Tn. It’s a suburb of Chattanooga that happens to be the hometown of several performers associated with Wildside as well as the legendary Terry Gordy.
This was a benefit show for the Soddy Daisy High School wrestling team. And benefit they did. The promoters not so much. The house was decent enough (approximately 500 people for a gate of 5K plus the shocking amount of offerings generated by Jake Roberts). When it came down to the distribution of the proceeds, well, let’s just say that it appears the school picked up a few tricks of the trade from the fundraiser they did with Bert Prentice earlier in the year.
It turned out to be no better than an average show by Wildside standards, a show that had more than its share of problems. The crowd was mostly casual fans that didn’t react strongly to the mere presence of the TNA talent much less the Wildside crew. Worse, a number of things happened that made it next to impossible to suspend disbelief.
Dan “The Dragon” Wilson opened the show with the announcement that the cage match stipulation for the main event had been scrapped (they couldn’t find a way to get the cage inside the building). In its place, Tank & Iceberg were going to defend the NWA Wildside Tag Team Titles against Pomp & Circumstances in a Falls Count Anywhere match. The crowd voiced their approval of the change.
(1) Crazy Francis beat Adam Roberts (with Andrew Alexander) at 11:15 and then Tank & Iceberg beat the f### out of the both of ‘em. They could have achieved the same objective in about half the time and doubled the impact. Roberts, a red-blooded Alabamian, went the Easy Heat 101 route by making disparaging remarks about the state of Tennessee. Francis was too generic for an insane guy. The taped-face gimmick he used in NAWA was more distinctive. The heat died once the match started, as neither one did much to connect with the crowd. Roberts used a Yakuza kick to take over. Alexander interfered freely to help Roberts maintain control. The crowd started to get into it when Francis reversed a figure four leglock. Francis hit a Shining Wizard. Alexander distracted ref Ryan Michaels. Francis went after Alexander and took a shot in the back for his troubles. Roberts tried for a nonchalant cover and Francis reversed it with a crucifix pin.
Tank and Iceberg brought the violence. Jeff G. Bailey said Pomp and Circumstance (the hometown heroes) were too cowardly to get inside the fence with his guys. All the refs were at ringside looking totally impotent. Bailey’s ordered his monsters to end Francis’ stinking life. Pomp & Circumstance (Ace Rockwell & Shaun Tempers) hit the ring and the monsters bailed out. Given the size disparity, this was hard to swallow. P & C needed to be toting some heavy artillery to make it believable. Rockwell said Tank and Iceberg were in for the ass kicking of the century.
(2) Three Guys That Totally Rule (Seth Delay & “Precious” Patrick Bentley & Chad Parham) beat Delirious & T. J. Dalton & Hayden Young in 18:04. NWA Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer was at ringside in the useless role of babyface manager. Both teams tried to rev up the crowd with their intros. Delay ripped on the Tennesseans’ love for the color orange. Said they watched football in orange on Saturday, hunted in orange on Sunday and picked up trash in orange on Monday. Excellent work all the away around in the early going. Not much heat though, because the crowd didn’t seem to be familiar with any of these guys. Delirious disappeared under the ring and sneaked up behind Parham who freaked. Parham was Mr. Personality, as he has shed any resemblance to the Gabriel character to become a card carrying member of Three Guys. At 7:50, Delirious suffered a self-inflicted hotshot when Parham pulled Delay out of harms way. Good heat spot. Parham hit a slingshot senton and strangled Delirious with his scarf. Delirious went into the deep sell. The crowd got behind him pretty good here. At 15 minutes in, Delirious gave Delay a colossal hotshot and hot-tagged Dalton. Bentley took a sky high backdrop from Dalton. They hit a series of hot moves down the stretch that really brought the crowd into the match. Delirious hit an impressive guillotine legdrop. Young nailed a flip dive right on the money. Delirious did a top rope Hart Attack. Young used Caprice Coleman’s diamond cutter variation (Thermal Shock). The ref got preoccupied with the action on the outside, allowing Gabriel to pin Dalton with a top rope double stomp. Best match on the show for action.
(3) Adam Jacobs beat David Young in 8:14. Andrew Thomas was back from TNA to referee. Jacobs got the first genuine heel heat of the night with his prematch routine of posturing and facial expressions. In the opening minute, Jacobs went up for a leapfrog and Young kicked him the groin. Jacobs started bumping like mad. Jacobs teased a piledriver that Young reversed with a backdrop. Jacobs crotched Young into the tree of woe and hit his baseball slide/dropkick. Jacobs posed. Jacobs scored with a pescado. But there was no water in the pool for his moonsault. Young rallied with a flatliner and a spiral faceplant, but Jacobs cut him off with a superkick for a two count. Young popped the crowd with a Liger Bomb. Both men barely beat the 10 count. Young hit the spinebuster. Young went for a back cover and Jacobs rolled a shoulder at 2.9. Jacobs won it with a sunset powerbomb that reads better than it looked. Good match but the finish was a letdown. There were some big moves in this match that only got near falls, so the finish called for some devastation.
Some of the high school wrestlers were brought into the ring and introduced to the crowd. The segment ended with two of the wrestlers going into business for themselves. One kid chokeslammed the other kid. The victim didn’t sell it at all.
(4) Traci Brooks (with Andrew Alexander) beat Daizee Haze (7-8 minutes). Brooks did a lengthy tease before removing a long shirt that concealed the goods. She called the predominately teen-aged male audience perverts merely for doing what comes naturally. The special referee was Abram Boise from Real World. They wanted to book Miz, but he wasn’t available, so they got Boise as a substitute. Sadly, Boise’s presence proved detrimental, as he was beyond clueless about pro wrestling. He had to be told to slap the mat when he was making a pin count. Brooks faked a knee injury. Haze offered Brooks a get well card in the form of her giant daisy, but Alexander strangled Haze with her own gimmick. Brooks dominated the body of the match with basic heeling. Haze gave Brooks a heart punch (is Ox Baker still alive?) and followed up with a Yakuza kick. Haze scored a frustrating visual fall, while the ref was being distracted by Alexander. Haze went after Alexander. Brooks went after Haze. Haze ducked and Brooks put on the breaks to avoid a head on collision with Alexander. The finish looked like seven kinds of ass. Haze tried for a forward rolling cradle, but Brooks countered with major assistance from Alexander. Boise stood there looking at the three of them until he was ordered to make the count.
Alexander, the American Idol wannabe, accused Boise of stealing his spotlight and told him to go back to Real World. Boise turned his back. Alexander attacked him. They did a series of abysmal spots that were the epitome of amateur hour. Boise almost landed on his head trying to take a backdrop. The credibility of pro wrestling was taking a beating on this night.
(5) Elix Skipper (with Jerry Palmer) beat Kory “Rainman” Chavis in 11:38 It was all Skipper for the first six minutes: Dropkick, ropes walk moonsault to his feet, corkscrew pescado, spinning back kick, double mule kick. Out of desperation, Chavis raked the eyes and hit the Spinesplitta for a near fall. Chavis put his good old-fashioned brawling skills to use. He used Skipper as a human bowling ball and the plastic chairs in section A as pins. Chavis used both bottom rope and middle rope versions of the catapult-the-opponent’s-throat-into-the-rope move. Skipper came back with the Overdrive. It wasn’t as well timed as he would have liked. Both men down. Skipper busted out a sweet springboard spinkick, and Chavis barely hooked the ropes with his foot to avoid a three count. Chavis got a big near fall with a Michinoku Driver. Skipper hit the Play of the Day to score the pinfall. Good match.
Roberts brought the coach of the Trojans wrestling team, Coach Brooks, into the ring and told the crowd to ante up some money for a good cause. Roberts’ voice is really shot but he got the point across. He asked for 100 dollar bills. Roberts said he made a lot of mistakes but he was man enough to admit it. Roberts then disclosed that he had seven kids and hadn’t raised any of them. He urged the parents in the crowd to do better. It took a while, but Roberts had the balls to stay with it and fans began tossing bills into the ring. They had collected a minimum of $300 before it was over.
(6) Jake Roberts pinned Murder One (with Nigel Sherrod) with a DDT in 11:21. Roberts didn’t look a day over 75. Apparently, the snake couldn’t make the trip. The crowd hated Sherrod. He’s a natural a##hole as a manager. Sherrod told the ring announcer that he didn’t know how to do his job (true) and introduced M-1 as a four-time NWA Wildside Tag Team Champion. All things considered, Roberts was pretty mobile for a guy coming off of a hip replacement. Roberts even took a mini flatback bump off the losing end of a test of strength. Twice, M-1 escaped from the DDT. Roberts sold an injured hand like there was no tomorrow. There may not be too many more tomorrows in his case. Sherrod got involved and stole money out of Jake’s pocket. Without the benefit of security rails (and no security presence at ringside), a fan was able to take liberties with Sherrod. Jake made the comeback and hit the short arm clothesline. Fans were calling for the DDT. M-1 blocked another DDT but one more attempt did the trick. 1..2..3. Roberts laid Sherrod out with a DDT in the postmatch. Roberts then frisked Sherrod and cleaned out his wallet.
(7) Falls Count Anywhere: Pomp & Circumstance (Ace Rockwell & Shaun Tempers with Coach Brooks) beat Tank & Iceberg (with Jeff G. Bailey) to win the NWA Wildside Tag Titles in 9:54. The Falls Count Anywhere was a convenient excuse for all out mayhem with P & C absorbing most of the punishment. P & C brought a trash can filled weapons to ringside. They started brawling all over the gym. Tank and Tempers both juiced. Iceberg suplexed Rockwell on the gym floor. Iceberg blasted Rockwell with two chairshots (not the plastic ones) and an ungodly senton backsplash. Iceberg brought barbed wire into the act. Tank did the Psycho curbstomp on Rocwell and the even sicker middle rope double stomp to the gut of Tempers. Ace surprised Iceberg with a missile dropkick and used the barbed wire on him. White Trash ran in and waffled Tank with a stop sign. Tank managed to stay on his feet. Rockwell then hit a blockbuster to score the pinfall. Wilson announced P &C as the new champs. Iceberg extended his hand to Rockwell and tried to double cross him, but Rockwell wouldn’t fall for it. P & C nailed the monsters with belt shots to close the show.
NOTES: The consensus of the lockerroom was that Roberts was in a delightful mood, as he was telling stories all night long to anyone that would listen. Roberts also did good business at the gimmick table…Azrael missed the show due to transportation problems…”Nightmare” Ted Allen was at the show.

SHOW NEWS & NOTES
The Second  Annual Fan Appreciation Night was a  rousing success!  The show  ended in a wild brawl that left the fan favorites  standing tall  in the ring, and highlighting the gang warfare that is currently  shaping the landscape of Pro Wrestling Express.
Scott Venom, the mouthpiece for 987 and  the  official spokesperson for Damien Stockholm's Championship  Committee came to the  ring flanked by the rest of 987, and announced  that he didn't appreciate any  fans, so he was going to make the  matches tonight.  He reminded the fans that he  fired Scottie  Gash, so Rage was missing a member now, which brought Rage to the  ring.  A brawl broke out, and Venom tried to direct traffic  in the ring.  This  brought out Nikita Allanov, who hit Venom  with a Russian Sickle, and  then grabbed a prone Venom and asked  the fans to make the match happen.   987  hit the ring to check  on Venom, and the brawl was broken up.
The first match selected by the fans was  a tag  team squaring off, as the Hammer Sam Slej & QB Blitzz  from the Tri Chi  Fraternity fought it out.  Neither man seemed  to want to fight the other when  they got in the ring, but they  fought it out for the fans.  Both men tried to  keep it as a clean  and technical match, and the fans wanted to see these two  guys  brawl.  Armageddon hit the ring during the match and laid out Blitzz  with a  sign shot as he hit the ropes, and then attacked Slej,  which got the match  tossed out by senior official Shawn Patrick.
Eric Extasy came  to the ring for his Club  Extasy interview, and announced his guest  was Slej.  Slej said that he didn't  need a lot of talking, but  that he did need to get his hands on Devil Bhudakahn,  and he wanted  a match tonight.  Bhudakahn hit the ring and reminded Slej that  he  had already been picked for a match, so he wasn't getting a  shot at the Brass  Knuckles Championship tonight.  The members  of Apocalypse were swarming around  the ringside area, when Slej  clocked Bhudakahn.  Slej waited for Apocalypse to  get in the  ring, but was nailed from the back by Jake Garrett, who came from  the  crowd over the barrier.  Garrett, Mantis666, Eisen Drache,  Rapture, Revelation,  CJ Sensation and Bhudakahn all beat down  on Extasy and Slej, until Blitzz ran  into the ring with a street  sign, and Apocalypse bailed out.
Nikita Allanov got his wish, as fans picked him  and  Venom to square off next.  Venom hit the ring, but got the mic  and reminded  Allanov that he had a contract out there for a Lumberjack  Match.  Venom said he  thought tonight was a perfect night for  that match, so he brought out his  handpicked lumberjacks - 987  and Apocalypse.  Allanov was way outnumbered here,  and was soon  overwhelmed by the 11-on-1 fight.  To mock Allanov, Venom tried  to  end the match with a Russian Sickle, but Allanov hit rolling  German Suplexes,  and all hell broke loose.  Allanov was ready  and laid out each member of 987 and  Apocalypse with a Russian  Sickle, except Crusher Hansen, who ducked the  clothesline, which  led to Venom hitting a superkick and getting the pinfall.   After  the match Allanov apologized to the fans and seemed to be on the  verge of  tears.
The tag team titles were on the line next, with  Quinn Magnum & Brandon K of Rage defending the titles against the  hodge-podge  team of Bigg & Seth James, who were picked by a fan to challenge  for the titles. Bigg and Seth had problems as a team from the  get go, and it  wasn't long before the duo were throwing punches  at one another.  This  gave Armageddon a chance to ambush the  champs, which got James & Bigg  disqualified.
Daron Smythe and Paul Atlas were picked  next to  duel, in a rematch from the last PWX event.  Once again  this was a very heated  matchup, with both men trading holds and  very stiff shots and chops.  Atlas  seemed to be without a foreign  object, but was using a ton of dirty tricks to  stay a step ahead  of Smythe.  Every time Smythe would turn the tide, Atlas was  bailing  to the outside to regroup, and stop Smythe's momentum.  Smythe  ended up  reversing Atlas' attempt at a DDT into a small package,  which got him the win.   Another great technical matchup between  these two.
Three  Rivers Champ Eric Extasy as picked to  partner with rookie sensation  Dan Miles, fresh off of the injured list, to go  against 987's  Chris Taylor & Devin Devine.  987 focused their attention  on  the inexperienced Miles, and worked him over good, but Extasy  got the tag and  evened things back out.  Extasy had Devine and  Taylor in opposite corners and  called for Miles to help him with  a double "Sack Attack", but Miles wanted no  part of it, so Krystal  Frost got in the ring and gave a Bronco Buster to Taylor,  and  Devine ate Extasy's sack.  As Extasy and Frost hugged, Devine clobbered  Extasy from behind, and sent him down on top of Frost.  Taylor  dumped Miles off  the apron, and they began to lay the boots to  Extasy.  Quinn Magnum & Brandon K hit the ring though and  laid the 987 members out as referee Kevin  Tressler helped Frost  out of the ring. Miles made the cover whit both men down,  and  managed to get the pinfall, which he thought warranted an over the  top  celebration.  Extasy was more than willing to embrace and  let Miles hug him...  but so was Frost.
The main event saw a 987 versus Rage match,  as  Crusher Hansen retained the Heavyweight Title over Mad Mike.   Hansen went after  Mad Mike's surgically repaired knee after sustaining  a flurry of offense from  the challenger early, and then he stayed  on the knee, working it over with  relentless aggression.  Hansen  worked Mike over with a figure four, and but on  one leg, Mike  managed to fight back and after a brutal clothesline, Mike started  to go up top for his patented flying legdrop.  Mike got caught  though by Scott  Venom, and the rest of 987 joined in on the beat  down, which led to Rage hitting  the ring.  Magnum got the mic  and said he didn't care about anything except  having a weapons  match right now.  Hansen got the mic and said that they had the  numbers advantage, so they were more than willing to do it.    Apocalypse hit the  ring first though, and Bhudakahn said that  they were tired of being treated as  second class, and they were  here to show why they should be in the main event.   This brought  out Nikita Allanov the Tri Chi's and Bigg, and soon a brawl  erupted,  and the entire lockerroom emptied.  The smoke finally cleared though,  with Rage and the other fan favorites standing tall in the ring.
The first three  nominees for the "Circle of  Respect" were also announced at the  show.  The nominees from the wrestlers and  staff at PWX included  Two-time World Jr. Heavyweight Champion Vince Kaplack,  half of  the current PWX Tag Team Champions Quinn Magnum, and Senior Official  Shawn Patrick.  Any fan in attendance at any event until January  7th will  receive a vote, and the highest vote-getter will become  the first person  enshrined in the CoR on January 21st.
NWA Pro Wrestling Express will host the  final  Sportatorium card of 2005 on Saturday December 10th.  "New  Years Knockout", the  final event of 2005, will take place on Saturday  December 17th at the Palisades  in McKeesport.  Tickets to both  events are $10 for ringside seats, $9 general  admission, and $6  for kids 12 and under.  For more info on both cards, check out  the official NWA-PWX website at

NWA MID-WEST NEWS

On Jan 7th the Black Tiger from New Japan will be hosting a training  seminar  prior to the NWA Midwest show in Streamwood at the Streamwood  Park District  facility at 777 Bartlett Road in Streamwood. Cost  is $40 per person, and spots  are limited. Call 630-539-4541, or  email us at [email protected] for  a spot in the seminar.

NWA Wisconsin (the first  show since re-branding from ACW - NWA) got  off
to a roaring  start at the Theresa Lodge on Sat. Nov 12th.
A deafening  standing  room only crowd of 240 paid fans filled the lodge
to capacity.  NWA  Wisconsin would like to apologize to the several dozen
more  fans who were  turned away due to the large audience.

T.C.  Washington def. T-Bone and  Josh Maxim

T.C. Washington moved  up the ranks of the contender list for  the NWA
Wisconsin X  Division title as he defeated both Josh Maxim and  T-Bone
with  a solid victory. T.C. collected the pin fall with a Fisherman's
Buster.

Dredd w/ Miss Anne Def. Chris Black. Retains  NWA Wisconsin X  Division
Title

Cashing in his shot  at the X Division Title, Chris  Black took on Justin
Dredd in  a singles match. The back and forth action was  intense with
Black  throwing his entire arsenal of martial arts skills at  Dredd. That,
however,  was not enough to overcome the champion. Dredd put  Black down
for  the count with a spectacular 450 Splash.

After the  match  Shortstack came to the ring and called out Miss Anne. To
her  surprise  he had brought a friend with him, fellow midget wrestler
Bad  Boy Brian. After  many a joke at the expense of Anne's honor, 'Stack
got  a surprise of his own  when Brian jumped him with the help of Miss
Anne.  A match was made for later  in the evening between Brian and
Shortstack.

J-Cash  Def. Jesus Ramirez  via submission

In the hunt for the NWA  Wisconsin Heavyweight title, Jesus  Ramirez took
on J-Cash.  Ramirez took it right to cash with his exciting high  flying
style.  Although Jesus put up quite a fight, his arrogant attitude  got
the  best of him when J-Cash capitalized with a Cash Flow  and
subsequently  put him in Cash's version of a sharpshooter, the  Money
Clip.  After holding out for a few moments, Ramirez tapped.

Diego  Corleone w/ "Greaseball" Paulie Palermo Def. "Cadillac" Nick
Colucci  w/ Don  Gotti in a Chicago v. New York Street Fight

Chicago  vs. New York came to  Theresa, Wisconsin with a trash cans,
chairs  and pizza pans flying. Colucci  had the early advantage of having
Diego  to himself and Don Gotti. But once  Corleone cleared the ring with
a  pizza pan to the head, he fed Gotti to  Greaseball Paulie and took  it
to Cadillac. Don Gotti watched helplessly,  handcuffed by  Paulie to the
bottom rope, as Diego put a beating on Colucci.  J-Cash ran in and
uncuffed Gotti, but it was too late as Corleone's  hand was  raised by
referee Eric Hebner. After the match, Collucci  challenged Diego to  a one
on one match in Marinette, WI on  Dec. 3.

Xavier Mustafa Def.  Ruff Ryder Rashaan

This  match literally shook the house. The lighting  quick moves of the
270  lb Rashaan combined with the massive 317 lb Mustafa  made the front
row  a scary place to be. Rashaan dominated Mustafa for most of  the
match.  But the crafty Xavier picked his spot and nailed Rashaan with  a
Blackhole  Slam for the 1-2-3.

Shortstack Def. Bad Boy Brian w/ Miss  Anne

Coming to the ring with his new found ally, Bad Boy  Brian climbed  into
the squared circle hell bent on putting  a beat down on Shortstack.  When
Shortstack's music hit, the  crowd was chanting so loud that  Brian
covered his ears to keep  from hearing "Shortstack, Shortstack...".  The
bell rang and  it was on. The two competitors traded chops,  suplexes,
bodyslams,  and enough low blows to make Ric Flair blush. The tide  turned
towards  Shortstack when he literally took a bit out of Brian.  Brian
jumped  into the arms of the Referee and complained that Shortstack  "Bit
his  rump roast". Shortstack took this opportunity to take Brian down  for
a 3 count. After the referee raised his hand, Anne came  into the ring  to
chastise Bad Boy for not getting the job done.  Shortstack crept  up
behind her and took a bit out of her "rump  roast" as well. Upon  seeing
this, Bad Boy Brian joined in and  reconciled his differences with  his
fellow midget. Nick Colucci,  Don Gotti, J-Cash, and many others came  to
the ring to celebrate  Shortstack's big win.
