BILL BEHRENS NWA NOTES for 2-18-08

The first episode of Peach State Pandemonium was broadcast live today, featuring our guest Bill Behrens. We discussed the pending Senate Bill 413, which could essentially end professional wrestling in the state of Georgia. Behrens is heading a group called the Georgia Wrestling Promoters Advisory Committee in a battle to separate them from the bill and produce a new form of documented regulation to keep wrestling under reasonable policing. Click here for the archived broadcast. Next week’s guest will be legendary manager Gary Hart. (Rich Tate)

Report on Georgia State Legislature efforts to pass wrestling regulation legislation

by Larry Goodman

WRESTLING WITH THE SENATE

February 12, 2008

Representatives of Georgia wrestling got their opportunity to address members of the Georgia Senate today during a hearing held by the Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities on SB 413, the bill to regulate wrestling.

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over. However, based on comments made by President Pro Temp of the Senate, Eric Johnson, the bill’s primary sponsor and a member of the RIU Committee, there is a zero chance of the bill in its original form making it to the Senate for a vote.

Johnson repeatedly stressed that it was not his intention to put independent wrestling promotions out of business. He called the bill “a work in progress,” noted how well informed the primary spokespersons for the wrestling side were regarding the bill, and requested a copy of the 12 rules proposed the by the Georgia Wrestling Promoters Advisory Committee.

The wrestling side also did what they do best – they entertained. One lobbyist called it the most entertaining hearing the RIU Committee has ever had the privilege of hosting.

The case for the bill was presented by Deputy Secretary of State Robb Simms and Kelly Farr, Executive Director of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. Simms said while the State clearly understood that wrestling was choreographed, they were concerned about the lack of any medical screening and lack of blood tests to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Simms made it clear that one of the driving forces was to remove the exemption granted to WWE under the current statute. Simms said the State had done their due diligence based on regulations in 26 other states. He discounted the possibility of WWE steering clear of Georgia, noting WWE was planning events in 12 other regulated states during 2008.

Farr was subjected to pointed questioning by Senate Majority Leader Tommie Williams, who was clearly not favorably inclined towards legislating more government. Farr claimed to have knowledge of a recent incident in which a twelve year-old participated in a wrestling show. Farr defended the 5% gate tax on the basis that it allowed the GAEC to keep the up front licensing costs lower, therefore making it less of a barrier to the promoters. Williams wanted to know if there were other entertainment forms that should be regulated. Farr said he could not intelligently address the question.

Johnson outlined the major points of the bill: the removal of WWE’s exemption, $1,000 licensing fee for promoters, attending physician and ambulance at all events, surety bond, and $50,000 life and health insurance policy. Johnson said the 5% tax was already in the law (only for boxing and MMA but not wrestling). Johnson noted that the rules related to the entertainment aspects of pro wrestling proposed by the GAEC were banned. He acknowledged that the section on referees had to be revised as it pertained to pro wrestling. Johnson also noted the high death rates among professional wrestlers. Farr quoted the cost of the health insurance as $2,250-2,750 per show.

Johnson emphasized that the bill defined an amateur as any wrestler earning less than $100 per match. Therefore, promoters paying wrestlers less than $100 would not be subject to regulation. Johnson indicated that the $100 figure was not set in stone.

John Taylor, the lawyer representing WWE in Georgia, was the first spokesperson for the wrestling industry. Taylor addressed the issue that the bill made no distinction between boxing, MMA and pro wrestling. He said the State had not done any fact finding. He said the SB 413 had no constituency except for the regulators. He likened it to meter maids lobbying for more parking meters. Taylor got heat from Johnson for talking about the referee stuff, after Johnson just got finished saying it would be revised. Taylor apologized. One of the Senators accused Taylor of trying to be entertaining.

Taylor strenuously objected to the language that allowed the ringside physician to suspend a wrestler on the spot with no appeal, using Ric Flair as an example. Taylor said Georgia was on the short list for WrestleMania in 2009 and 2010 and intimated that they wouldn’t run here because they couldn’t risk having a wrestler suspended. (NOTE: the bill actually would allow WWE to appoint its own physician). Taylor said the trend was towards deregulation of pro wrestling citing states such as California, Illinois, Texas, Michigan, and Nevada. Senator Ross Tolleson asked about WWE’s handling of testing for drugs and communicable diseases. Taylor cited WWE’s Wellness Policy. Johnson complimented WWE on the level of training their wrestlers demonstrated. Senator Henson asked about medical screening. Taylor said WWE had a physician in attendance and noted how wrestlers were subject to “peer review” by the agents and other wrestlers. Surprisingly, Taylor failed to mention the medical testing that caught MVP’s heart problem. Taylor said there had been no deaths in a WWE ring in 25 years.

Wrestler Simon Sermon called SB 413 a knee jerk reaction to the Benoit tragedy and big government at its most evil. Sermon said wrestling was his hobby, and his profession was being a private detective. Sermon ran down a list of injuries he had received. But it was a swerve, as he concluded by revealing that his injuries occurred while pursuing other “hobbies” like flag football and basketball. Sermon said he had never been seriously injured during his 7 year career.

Bill Behrens told the Committee that he was employed by Total Nonstop Action, “the Avis of the wrestling business”, and had promoted over 1,000 wrestling shows. Behrens said he had never seen a GAEC member in attendance at any of his shows. He pointed out the ambiguous language contained in the bill’s definition of pro wrestling which states that wrestling matches may have a predetermined outcome and wrestlers may not use their best effort to win.

Behrens presented many of the same arguments he did at the GAEC hearing in December – the nature of wrestling is different from MMA and boxing because there is no intent to hurt an opponent to win a purse. He contrasted wrestling with watching NWA Anarchy wrestler Slim J compete in MMA and how dangerous it was by comparison. He said the claims of major injuries related to pro wrestling in Georgia are unsubstantiated by any evidence. He stated that the Georgia 911 system has a 4 minute average response time, so having ambulances sitting at wrestling shows would be a waste of valuable resources.

Behrens brought up the 12 rules he presented to the GAEC on behalf of the wrestling advisory board. Johnson said he no knowledge of those rules and wanted to get a copy of them.

NWA Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer spoke as a trained paramedic and a wrestling promoter. Palmer compared wrestling to a sixth grade play put on by very big boys. He said the $1,000 per show permit fee, the MD and ambulance requirements, etc., would put him out of business. He said the gate tax was okay if the GAEC wanted 5% of his $1,000 gate. Palmer warned that if SB 413 became law, then it would be just the big promotions and the outlaw promotions left doing business.

Palmer said he didn’t mind regulation, but he did not appreciate extinction. He reiterated that the promoters’ efforts to collaborate with the GAEC went nowhere. Johnson complimented Palmer on his knowledge of the bill.

Just as he was at the GAEC hearing in December, Eddie (aka Iceberg) Chastain’s testimony was one of the highlights of the hearing. Iceberg offered to give the Committee members a worked punch of the type that are used in pro wrestling and a shoot punch like in boxing and let them judge which needed to be regulated.

Johnson concluded the meeting by thanking the wrestling side for their input and reassuring them that they were seeing the legislative process in action.

NWA ANARCHY TV TAPING 2-16-08 REPORT by LARRY GOODMAN

The magic is back. NWA Anarchy is on a roll heading into Hardcore Hell. Last night’s television taping in Cornelia was the best one in several months, maybe more. There were points where the energy and intensity had more of a big show feel than Season’s Beatings.

The main events were both gems. They were the two best matches I’ve seen live in 2008.

Really, all of the key matches and angles yielded excellent results. The ringwork was up to the level of the storylines, which hasn’t always been the case of late.

The crowd of 225 at the NWA Arena was blazing hot in all the right places. good stuff.

They are politicians. Do not assume they are going to do the right thing.

That’s how Jerry Palmer summed up the situation with Senate Bill 413 and the General Assembly. Palmer said the senators seemed sympathetic to the issues raised during testimony regarding legislation that would put a stranglehold on independent wrestling in Georgia. Fliers with the names of the members of the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee and the e-mail listings for all of the state senators were distributed to the crowd. Palmer urged fans to express their opinions in a civilized manner. Palmer made it clear he has no love for GAEC Executive Secretary Kelly Farr.

Nemesis barged in the front door calling for Shadow Jackson. As Palmer was directing security to remove Nemesis, Jeremy Vain and Rob Adonis jumped him from behind. Vain used his boot to put a lump in Palmer’s head legit and bloodied him up. Vain added a top rope boot shot to the noggin before Austin Creed, Hayden Young and Ace Rockwell made the save. The crowd chanted “Jer-E” as Palmer was carried out.

(1) Chip Day beat Frankie Valentino in 6 minutes. Fast paced action. Valentino (Valentine) is tons better than he was a year ago. His moveset has gotten ever so much more interesting, and his execution was right on the money. Valentino did a variation of a Blockbuster with Day straddling the middle ropes. He applied a cravate. Stiff strikes both ways here. Day rallied with a missile dropkick and a flip dive that came up short, but Valentino made a good catch on it. Day prevailed with a corkscrew moonsault.

(2) New Wave (Derrik Driver & Steven Walters) beat Talent & Money (J. T. Talent & Andrew Pendleton III) in 7:20. These teams should be beyond familiar with each other at this point. They had a good match. The heels, Talent & Money got a louder entrance pop than New Wave, and that just should not be. Walters persuaded the crowd to do the Wave. That took balls. New Wave got in a couple of nice double teams before Pendleton turned the tide with the money neckbreaker on Driver. Hollywood Brunettes came to ringside to observe. Talent hit the Big Nasty (elevated full nelson facebuster) for a near fall. T & M got another two count with a sideslam/top rope legdrop combo. Walters cleaned house with the hot tag. Spinkick to the mush on Talent, and Pendleton saved. Pendleton got into a war of words with Brunettes. Meanwhile, New Wave hit the Unskinny Bop (side slam/quebrada combo) to pin Talent.

(3) Mikal Judas pinned Dominous in 3:12. This was as good as it possibly could be, and you have to give Judas most of the credit. Dominous was billed at over 7 feet tall. Judas clotheslined Dominous over the ropes at the opening bell. They brawled around the ring. Dominous posted Judas. Back inside, Dominous hit a chokeslam. Judas went way up for it. Big time heat. Judas sat up and leveled Dominous with the Mafia Kick. Judas staggered Dominous with a sick chair shot to the skull. A second one put him down. Then, with the disfigured freak flat on his back, Judas delivered the coup d’grace. Judas made a kneeling pin while jamming the chair edge into Dominous’ throat. It wasn’t announced as a no DQ match, but who was going to tell Judas that? The handheld camera got a great close up of Judas posing with the bent up chair. Dominous was out cold and it took a crew of wrestlers to haul the behemoth to the back.

This was the swan song for Dominous. He was no longer a part of Devil’s Rejects. His counterpart with the NWA Elite, Abomination, has been gone for some time. In retrospect, Anarchy got maximum mileage out of two big guys with very limited experience.

(4) Todd Sexton pinned Wesley Grissom with the Sexecution (9:04). Grissom got a great entrance pop, but his night went south from there. Sexton blew off the “Todd’s a legend” chant. He tried to intimidate Grissom, and when that didn’t work, Sexton popped Grissom with an elbow on the break. A series of reversals lead to Sexton turning Grissom’s spinning headscissors into a face plant. Sexton softened Grissom up with strikes and went for a triangle submission. No go. Monkey flip into the buckles by Grissom and both men down. Grissom started going for springboard maneuvers, but he just was not hitting his stuff and lost the crowd in the process. Sexton stunned Grissom with a superkick, planted him on the top rope and abused him with a jawbreaker lariat. Grissom ducked a second superkick. A ref bump looked screwed up, although Grissom actually kicked Brent Wiley in the groin. Grissom tried a Pele that garnered a “you’re not A. J.” chant from the Bleacher Bums. Grissom sorta hit the running SSP but no ref to count. Sexton’s running Samoa Joe type kick to the face ended it.

(5) Devil’s Rejects (Iceberg & Azrael & Shaun Tempers with Reverend Dan Wilson) beat Awesome Attraction (Austin Creed & Hayden Young) & Truitt Fields in 13:02. Terrific action. Awesome heat. The babyface shine was first rate. Young did Poetry in Motion. Creed and Fields elevated Young for a sky high flip dive onto the Rejects, and the building exploded. In an amazing spot, Fields got Iceberg up for the Killing Fields (Rockbottom), but Tempers pulled the rug out on Fields with a rabbit lariat. Fields did a great job as the face-in-peril. Crowd was ultra hot the comeback. Azrael used an Ace crusher out of the corner for a near fall. Iceberg hit the Thigh Drop of Doom. Rejects quadruple-teamed Fields in their corner. Iceberg hit a belly to belly suplex, and Azrael unloaded on Fields with knee strikes. Fields caught Azrael with a Mexican spinning backbreaker and hot-tagged Creed. Creed was on fire. It broke down to six way action. With the other four batting at ringside, Young went for a flying bodypress on Iceberg, but the Inconceivable Being of Horror swatted Young like a fly and pinned him with the Ground Zero Splash.

(6) Adrian Hawkins beat Amien Rios in 6:16 with the Extreme Makeover. They did not mesh well. Rios got a surprising amount of offense. The crowd didn’t show much passion for Hawkins, probably because it was a very average match.

(7) Regular Guys (Bobby Hill & Tyler Smith) beat Anger Alliance (Brodie Chase & Don Matthews) after Melissa Coates got involved (9:05). Guys got a big pop for their entrance. Crowd wasn’t into them nearly as much once the bell rang. Chase’s comedy was pretty funny here. He gave Matthews a simulated anal penetration bump. Matthews hit the BFK on Hill. Coates came to ringside to taunt Matthews. The crowd chanted for puppies. “Those are my puppies!” said Matthews. Matthews showed off his stuff for Coates with a senton back splash and a full nelson slam. Chase hit his pumphandle neckbreaker and held Hill up so Matthews could finish him. Matthews was busy with Coates, who was up on the apron. Coates slapped Matthews. When Chase tried to intervene, Guys hit him from behind and an accordion collision ensued. Coates took a bump of the apron, and Smith rolled Chase up for the 1-2-3.

The postmatch was hell for Matthews. He had Coates in a full blow fit of rage on one side and Chase chewing him out from the other.

Nemesis entered the ring to call out the injured Shadow. Slim J came from the front door and was pounding away until Nemesis bailed. Security tried to break it up. Slim laid out one security guys in the ring and hit a corkscrew dive onto Nemesis and the three security guys trying to hold him back. Bullseye. They went down like bowling pins. Molten heat for all of this. What else could you expect when the number one babyface tangles with the most hated heel? J standing tall got the biggest babyface pop of the night.

(Cool Billy Buck & Chris King beat Hollywood Brunettes (Andrews Alexander & Kyle Matthews) via DQ due to interference by Talent & Money (7:30). King’s skater boy gimmick is history. He looks a bit like Sam Houston with the cowboy hat. Brunettes showed fear for Buck’s bionic elbow. King crashed and burned when Brunettes ran away from his dive attempt. Talent and Money came to ringside to watch Brunettes beat up on King. As per usual, it was Buck running wild with the hot tag. Finish saw Alexander setting Buck up for the Sheeney Curse when T & M interfered. New Wave came out to save Buck and King. Brunettes argued with T & M.

(9) Shatter (with Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) beat Ace Rockwell to retain the Anarchy Heavyweight Title in 12:45. Shatter can’t be long for NWA Anarchy. WWE is going to be drooling over this guy when they get another look at him next month. He’s shed the excess weight. But it’s more than the amazing physique. The guy can work at a major league level. Not to sell Rockwell short. He more than held up his end, and turned it into the type of match that elevates the loser. One of the wrestlers made the observation that Rockwell gets emotion across better than any other babyface on the roster. It was kind of like Anarchy’s version of Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy. They did a great job of telling the story - the undersized babyface has tremendous heart. He pulls out all the stops, comes oh so close, but can’t quite overcome the superior size and strength of his massive opponent. The pop for Rockwell ranked a close third behind J and Awesome Attraction. Rockwell surprised Shatter with an all out attack at the opening bell. It took three lariats, but he finally sent Shatter over the top rope. Rockwell did a huracanrana off the apron. He was damn fortunate to have Shatter as a base or it could have been ugly. Back inside, it was all Shatter. Bailey was the picture of overconfidence at ringside. Shatter did a Biel throw for the ages, a Crackerjack, and a killer gorilla press free fall. But Rockwell rolled out from under Shatter’s top rope elbow and tried to set up his finisher, but Shatter blocked the Aces High. Rockwell appeared to go down with a knee injury. A sly ruse, as he sneaked in behind Shatter with a roll up. It was the first in a series of great near falls. Shatter hit a bridging german suplex for a long two count. Shatter tried for a superplex, but Rockwell landed on top for a near fall. Rockwell hit the Codebreaker. Bailey got on the apron to whack Rockwell with his loafer and konked Shatter by mistake. Rockwell then caught a stupefied Shatter with a flying bodypress and Shatter kicked out at 2.9. The crowd bought it as the finish. Rockwell went for a top rope huracanrana. Shatter blocked it and hit the PTSD powerbomb off the middle ropes for the pin.

Shatter’s celebration was cut short by the arrival of Iceberg (with Wilson). Judas came out and a three-way inring confrontation ensued. Judas sprayed the red mist at Iceberg and hit a chokeslam on Shatter. Iceberg and Shatter bailed out to let Wilson and Bailey lick their wounds. Judas held the high ground for the big show closing pop.

NWA Anarchy TV Report by Ca$hFlowX
Episode 102
February 4, 2008

WRESTLING: (n.) ’res-ling A sport of contest in which two individuals face off in unarmed combat.
ANARCHY: (n.) an-ar-key (1) A state of lawlessness due to absence of authority. (2) A complete lack of order.
What happens when you mix the two together? NWA-Anarchy!

- NWA Anarchy is PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING~! Last week on NWA Anarchy TV, Slim J succumbed to Iceberg and was slaughtered by Patrick Bentley. Also, Mikal Judas defeated Kory Chavis in the main event. Johnson astutely notes “Straight to DVD” Jeff Lewis cowardly attacked Chavis until the fine gentleman known as Jeff G Bailey stood up to him. This week is supposed to be incredible because it’s Devil’s Rejects Night. They will not only be in singles action, but they will prepare to massacre competition in tag action: Sal Rinauro vs. Patrick Bentley. In the main event, Jeremy Vain with Mr. Adonis must face the big black man you’d never want to meet in a dark alley… or hell, anywhere… Shadow Jackson.

1. NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Champion Phil Shatter murdered Jesse Emerson in non-title action.
Emerson’s offense is quickly defused with the spear. Shatter displays pure dominance even when he slips up on the middle rope on splash attempt. Shatter listens to the crowd’s demand by delivering a second PTSD.
POSTMATCH: Afterwards, Jeff G Bailey commands Shatter to toss the garbage into the nearest BFI dumpster. Before he completes a sentence, “the Reverend” Dan Wilson, Iceberg and Mikal Judas interrupts his biweekly deluge. Bill Behrens counters Bailey’s contentions about having no #1 contender: Shatter has two #1 contenders. In two weeks, all three wrestlers must coexist as a unit or the title match is called off.
COMMENTS: That was easy.

- Backstage, Adrian Hawkins admires Sal Rinauro’s T-shirt, which you can purchase at salrinauro.com. Hawkins has a big match against the Rejects and wants to tag with Mr. Rinauro because Mr. Delay is not here. Rinauro laughs. Hawkins states Mr. Delay is filming a commercial with John Cena. Rinauro asks, “Who is John Cena?” Hawkins cleverly responds, “You can’t see me.” Boy, I feel sorry for Mr. Delay, filming a commercial with inferior wrestling talent like Cena. As Rinauro & Hawkins celebrate potentially tagging with each other, NWA Anarchy TV Champion Truitt Fields informs them he is available. They go through a number of tag team names like “Team Romp & Stomp” and “the New Prettiest Tag Team.” Rinauro is like, tag teams with new in their name never work, but Hawkins cuts him off by saying the New Rockers worked. So they decide to settle like men and Fields defeats Rinauro in a game of Rock, Paper and Scissors. LOL!

2. Devil’s Rejects (Azreal & Shaun Tempers) w/Dan Wilson & the Staff of Righteousness defeated the New World’s Prettiest Tag Team (Adrian Hawkins & Truitt Fields)
Fields begins this one with a little flare by pulling off a Rick Rude dance while standing over Azreal. The Rejects immediately go to work over Fields. After commercial, the Rejects deliver a double chokeslam to Fields. Fields finally buys himself time on very dangerous looking body slam. Ouch, that didn’t look right. Hawkins receives the hot tag and works over the Rejects. It breaks down to Azreal and Hawkins in the ring. Wilson mounts the apron to distract the referee and Don Matthews interjects himself by delivering the Lariat of DOOM~! Azreal covers the lifeless Hawkins for the victory.
COMMENTS: So what was the finish out of left field about?

3. Patrick Bentley pinned Sal Rinauro.
This is a battle of 2/3 of the original NWA Anarchy Tag Team champions, who if I remember correctly, were Three Guys Who Totally Rule. The announcing crew focuses their attention on Slim J murmuring he will send Bentley straight to Hades after last week’s heinous attack. The tide turns for worse when Bentley flips Rinauro to the apron and snaps his neck on the top rope, but Wilson firmly plants the Staff of Righteousness on Rinauro’s Achilles heel. Rinauro lands on his own wrist and ribs. Bentley promptly focuses his attack on Rinauro’s abdominal with a gourdbuster. After commercial, Bentley rams Rinauro abdomen first on the top turnbuckle. Bentley mounts the top turnbuckle and sets up for a superplex, but Rinauro escapes with a headbutt. Rinauro leaps over Bentley and delivers a backbreaker variation and a German suplex into a bridge. The referee makes the count, but Wilson places Bentley’s foot to the ropes. Bentley responds with a chestblower and knee to the gut. Bentley slaps on a seated abdominal stretch. Rinauro escapes with a jawbreaker. Rinauro eludes Bentley, stomps Wilson’s hand and leaps into the Dark Driver.
COMMENTS: Overall, this was a good match where Bentley scores a clean victory over a major name. The ending didn’t look right because Rinauro had to visibly to duck his head to take the Dark Driver. The announcing crew did a nice job of covering Bentley’s attack on Slim J.

4. The Awesome Attraction (Austin “A Paycheck Waiting to Happen” Creed & Hayden Young) defeated Todd “not Tony” Sexton & Wes Grissom to retain the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Titles.
Johnson is disgusted that Creed would dare to shake Sexton’s hand. Sexton plays games with Grissom early on by tagging out after selling delivering a back elbow. Sexton calls Grissom over to massage his back! Grissom focuses his attack on Young’s leg with a DDT on it. Sexton tags him and continues to work over Young’s leg. Sexton ducks an enziguri, but Young connects on the second one. Creed receives the tag and delivers a flurry of offense including the rolling clothesline. Sexton catches Creed charging in with a boot to the mush before tagging out to Grissom. Creed escapes a headlock by whipping Grissom into the ropes and injures his own family jewels. Sexton smartly tags himself in and scorns Grissom. Sexton prepares to deliver the superkick, but Grissom nimbly blocks it and Creed delivers the Monte Fisto. Sexton slumps to the mat. Young prepares for the Flying Squirrel, but he signals to Grissom to finish the Bald Retard off. Grissom learned his lesson the easy way and helped the opposing team with the shooting star press. Billy Kidman would be proud. Grissom poses with the Awesome Attraction afterwards.
COMMENTS: The match came across as quirky. I never could get into the match. The storytelling elements were funny and the finish was original.

5. Jeremy Vain w/Mr. Rob Adonis pinned Shadow Jackson.
After commercial, we’re immediately greeted with a “Kill the Cracker” chant. Shadow happily obliges by Pearl Harboring Vain. Shadow dominates Vain to the extent where he’s calling a timeout. Shadow heads to the floor and catches Vain with a vicious headbutt. As Shadow reenters the ring, Vain seizes the moment when Mr. Adonis death grips Shadow’s leg. After eluding a Stinger splash, Vain delivers a top rope double kneedrop to Shadow’s stomach and applies an abdominal stretch. Vain reaches to Mr. Adonis’s outstretched arm for added leverage. After commercial, Vain continues to work over Shadow’s ribs. Shadow finally Hulks up and makes the big comeback. Shadow points to Vain and delivers a Season’s Beatings with a belly to belly suplex. Shadow prepares to make the cover and promptly smashes Adonis for interfering. Shadow destroys Vain with the 10-31 Crime in Progress spinebuster, but Nemesis enters through the front door to distract him. Nemesis leads the crowd in chanting Shadow’s name. Vain takes advantage of Shadow’s distraction by rolling up Shadow for the victory. (I don’t know if I can actually believe that move.) Nemesis continues to bait Shadow by portraying himself as brandishing twin Tech 9’s. Adonis & Vain launch an all out attack as Nemesis smiles. NWA Owner Jerry Palmer has had enough and makes the save with an axe handle. The crowd loudly chants “Shadow” as the rudos head to the back. That’s alright, Palmer is sick and tired of Vain & Adonis and GAEC. So he’s devised an evil scheme and has a mystery partner in mind to face Vain & Adonis. Palmer tells if everything ends on January 8, then he doesn’t mind going out on top than teaming with Shadow. Palmer addresses Nemesis and promises Shadow he will receive a shot at the idiot. Good finish.
COMMENTS: This was a good match with fun storytelling. Unfortunately, it isn’t in the realm of believability that Vain can hold Shadow’s Jackson to the mat for the three count without knocking him out. The segment finished with a nice sequence and Nemesis carries himself an awesome street thug. The UAS feud has turned into an uncontrollable monster that is could turn out be a hot feud.

OVERALL: This week’s episode was heavy on storyline, mostly for the good. The match endings were good overall except for the main event’s that didn’t come across as believable. Not to sound a like broken record, Anarchy is steamrolling into another big event.

THE MATCH SHOULD OF CONTINUED, AS YOU CAN PLAINLY SEE
CAMERONS FOOT WAS ON THE ROPE AS THE REF COUNTED
1,2,3.

THE GAUNTLET MATCH WOULD COME NEXT. AS COMPETITOR
AFTER COMPETITOR WOULD COME DOWN TO THE RING. IN THE
END, THE WINNER OF THE GAUNTLET WOULD BE RYAN EPIC.

THE NEXT BOUT WOULD SEE JAKE OMEN DEFEAT CUPID
VALENTINO IN THE MIKE LAWSON MEMORIAL MATCH. THIS WAS
A VERY EMOTIONAL BATTLE BETWEEN TWO GREAT COMPETITORS
THAT WERE GREAT FRIENDS WITH LAWSON. MIKE YOU WILL
ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF THE
NWA UNDERGROUND. GOD BLESS YOU!

THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP WOULD LEAVE THE KENT BOYS
CONTINUING THE CHAMPIONSHIP WAYS AS THEY WOULD GO ON
TO DEFEAT HYBRID CHAOS.

THE FINAL MATCH OF THE EVENING WOULD SEE CHASE DEFEAT
HYPE TO MAINTAIN HIS CHAMPIONSHIP.

"Snake Eyez" Jason Riley -v- Tony Mega w/ The WeeZel
The match started on the outside, with Mega and Riley
brawling on the outside. Mega eventually stole the
board, allowing WeeZel to unstuff himself with a dry
erase marker (we know why he stuffs, seeing as he is a
WeeZel, but a dry erase marker? Dumbass) and the board
was then broken over Riley's head. Not the board, just
the frame. Mega rolled Riley into the ring and went
for the cover, but was unsuccessful. The two continued
going at it, eventually leading to WeeZel holding down
Riley's feet, preventing him from kicking out and
allowing Tony Mega to get the pin.
Tony Mega def. "Snake Eyes" Jason Riley

Jerry Stylz -v- "Simply Amazing Justin Dredd
Jerry is a funny guy, but funniness doesn't beat
Justin Dredd. Dredd showed that the beating from Mason
Quinn in ICW wasn't enough to slow him down. Jerry was
possibly at his best from and offensive point of view,
including hitting a nice elbow drop. In the end
though, Justin Dredd did get the win.
"Simply Amazing" Justin Dredd def. Jerry Stylz

Douglas "Do Right" Peterson -v- Sam Hayne
And I'm going to channel Red Foreman from That 70's
Show in this breakdown, as it really does seem to fit.
As predicted, Sam Hayne dominated the young DDP. DDP
even broke from "fighting the clean fight while on the
straight and narrow" in order to try to get a one up
on the devil. He threw a cup of ice water at Sam Hayne
(dumbass), tried to get Sam Hayne in a spot where he
could get a couple shots in (such as sliding through
the ring and trying to jump Hayne on his way back in
(dumbass) and trying to do a baseball slide that Hayne
side stepped (dumbass). The only thing that made it so
DDP didn't get pinned, was the Foreign Franchise
interfered causing a no contest. And no contests don't
count towards my predictions.
Douglas "Do Right" Peterson vs. Sam Hayne - No Contest
after the match was broken up by Tejas

The McCoy Brothers (Mikey McCoy & Chase McCoy) (c) -v-
The Dream Police ("Smokin'" Don Gotti & "Cookie
Cutter" Christopher Gambino) ACW Tag Team Championship

Before the match, The McCoys came out and said that
last months #1 Contender's match was a joke, and that
they were not going to be putting the titles on the
line. The match was really controlled by The McCoys,
as they were able to keep themselves fresh while
preventing the tag on the other side of the ring. In
the end, The McCoys get the win.
The McCoy Brothers def. The Dream Police

Thomas Walton III (c) -v- Mystique ACW X Division
Championship
Mystique really showed why she deserved this match,
keeping TW3 on the defensive for much of the match,
despite the interference from Tejas and Chase McCoy.
As the match progressed, the distraction was provided
to the referee, allowing Tejas enough time to put
Mystique down and for TW3 to pin Mystique.
Thomas Walton III def. Mystique

Markus Maximus -v- Dysfunction
It was announced earlier in the night that Markus was
not there, but hey, Kody was, so Ben told him to get
his gear on and he would be wrestling Dysfunction...
so it was....
"K-Train" Kody Rice -v- Dysfunction
This match gets my vote for match of the night. Great
back and forth wrestling, and Dys did pull out the wet
willy. And got a 2 count from it. Both men were in
control of the match at points, but in the end, Dys
absolutely levels Kody with a Superkick for the 1-2-3.

Dyfunction def. "K-Train" Kody Rice

Mason Quinn (c) -v- Tejas NWA:Wisconsin Heavyweight
Title
A great match, they two behemoths colliding in the
ring like a pair of titans, battling fiercly. And I
was very happy with the multiperson, long and extended
"Mason Quinn" chant, of which I did quite well with
the "Ma-" part and the occasional "Quinn" when that
person failed miserably at it. In the end though, it
was all about the match, and Mason Quinn did come out
of the match with his belt and a win.
Mason Quinn def. Tejas

"Cadillac" Nick Colucci -v- Shane Hills
What can I say other than this was a great match to
end the night with from a wrestling standpoint.
Colucci did end up getting what was coming to him and
Hills got the win... all we need now is the goat.
Colucci finally got a bit of what is coming to him,
the question is who's going to step up to him next
month? Personally, I'd still like Colucci/Dysfuction
or maybe another matchup between Colucci/Justin Dredd.

Shane Hills def. "Cadillac" Nick Colucci

Post match, The Good Reverend comes out and lets
everyone know that with DINN T. MOORE coming back next
month, and I know I wanted to see a Spanish Stew
reunion, it was announced that we would see the great
team of Dinn T. Moore and Jose Guerrero, Spanish Stew,
take on another amazing team in Culture Shock, Shane
Hills and Rob Norwood.

NWA Great Championship Wrestling
February 14, 2008
Great Skate Plex
Phoenix City
, Alabama

Over 300 were in attendance and I wouldn't be shocked
if attendance wasn't over the allowable 320.

Match #1
Referee Randy Ray
Scotty Beach defeats Randall Johnson after hitting a
Beach Bomb.

Before this match began Johnson gets on the mic and
talked about how he was vacationing in Miami last
week. He says that noone is bigger or badder than
Randall "Big" Johnson and told Beach to come out and
lose to the Big Johnson. Not sure which is funnier, a
190lb guy who claims to be big, or the Big Johnson
part.

Match #2
Referee Jeff McGowan
GCW Tag Title Match
Tex Monroe and J-Rod retain the titles against the
Hooligans after J-Rod hits Mason Cutter with the TKO.

This was another exciting match between these two
teams. This match wasn't as fast paced as the one last
week, but damn these two teams blew the freaking roof
off the place.

Match #3
Referee Jeff McGowan
GCW Interstate Title Match
AJ Steele w/The Intern retains the title after hitting
Shaun Banks w/Cru Jones with the Steele City Bomb.

The end came when Jones tried to interfer and it
backfired. Good solid match between two very good
wrestlers.

Out comes the GCW Heavyweight champion Johnny Swinger,
Quentin Michaels and Zero Tolerance. Michaels gets on
the mic and starts to talk about the democratic
primary. He says that folks listened to Hillary at
first but noone is listening to her now and then he
mentioned that life imitates professional wrestling,
because noone listens to a woman. He said noone is
listening to Hillary Clinton and noone is going to
listen to Diane Hewes.

Out comes GCW owner, Diane Hewes. Michaels talks about
the firing of Scrappy McGowan and produced a letter
from some law firm. He said that while she was in her
rights to strip McGowan of his commissionership, she
didn't have the right to take away his senior
officating status. So Scrappy is now the senior
official in GCW.

Hewes said that Scrappy will be the senior referee.
She then jokingly said that Michaels is upset because
this being Valentine's day there are no female weasels
around.

Michaels then started to threaten Hewes when David
Young came out to make the save.

Match #4
Referee Randy Ray
David Young defeats Zero Tolerance w/Quentin Michaels
and Johnny Swinger after hitting Zero with a running
cast forearm smash.

Before the finish, Zero motioned that he was going to
break Young's arm again and had Swinger fetch a chair.
But Young was able to turn the tables and kick the
chair into Zero's face.

After the match, Young gets on the mic and tells
Swinger that he's going to win the battle royal and
that a broken arm will be a drop in the bucket.

Match #5
Referees Jeff McGowan and Randy Ray
22 Man Battle Royal
Winner faces Swinger on the 21st for the GCW title
Order of elimination
1. Skinny Jimmy
2. Orion Bishop
3. Tex Monroe
4. Mason Cutter
5. J-Rod
6. Devin Cutter
7. Michael Cook
8. Wicked Nemesis
9. Rob Russo *Yes the ring announcer*
10. Randall Johnson
11. John Bogie
12. The Intern
13. AJ Steele
14. Johnny Slaughter
15. Sonny Siaki
16. Scotty Beach
17. David Young
18. Zero Tolerance
19. Bull Buchanan
20. Shaun Banks
21. Cru Jones
Winner: Disco Inferno

After the match, Banks, Jones and Swinger try to
attack Disco, but Disco clears the ring. Good match,
even though Russo shouldn't have been in the match. I
mean next time put in Kenny and Johnny the GCW
cameramen.

Next week for the GCW title, Disco Inferno vs Johnny
Swinger.

NWA Gold & Glory III Results - Saluda, VA 2/16/08

FAN REVIEW TAKEN FROM AIRPLANESPIN.COM Credit AirplaneSpin.com

Hi everyone, I just got back from the 3rd Annual Hartfield Fire Department's NWA-Virginia fundraiser. It was a great crowd tonight, probably 250+ and they were into pretty much everything. Unfortunately the mic's weren't working well all night and I could not get the names of a few of the wrestlers. Two special guests who were in attendance tonight were former WWE referee Dave Hebner (who was twice mistakenly called EARL Hebner! oops!!) and Tammy Sytch, who was referred to all night by her WWE name Sunny. Both took pictures at intermission with fans for a nominal fee. Before the matches started they had a Ten Bell Salute for Mid-Atlantic wrestling legend Johnny Weaver who passed away at his home a couple of days ago. R.I.P. Johnny, we'll miss you.
