…..

Hey Georgie!!!

Just got back from the Bret Hart signing at Borders in Sterling, VA! I don't know how many people came to meet the Hitman. It was a ticketed event. I was number 45, and as the line started to get bigger, my best guess would be at least 150, perhaps more. I hope someone out there has an accurate number. I live down near Annapolis, so it took me an hour and a half to get down to the signing.

Before Bret even arrived the manager, Dennis, laid out the rules. No special inscriptions like "Best There Is...".  One piece of memorabilia per book. And it would be DVDs(the WWE dvd) and photos only. Well, this angered me as I had brought my Hitman shades that I have had since I was 11, and have anxiously waited for this moment for 14 years.( I previously had Jim Neidhart sign them at Capitol Legends in 2006, but sadly Bret left early.) It also angered another fan who had brought the winged eagle title and was told Bret would not sign it. After much talking back forth, Dennis asked the fan to put it back in his car, and he refused. Dennis took the belt and said he'll ask for confirmation. I also butted in and asked about my shades. Well, when the time came, Bret said yes to both the belt and the shades. We were both ecstatic! lol.

Bret showed up to the signing 15 minutes late, due to his flight, which if your a wrestling fan and have been doing signings as long as I have, is nothing new. Bret came in and sat down and we were off to a good start. I got up to Mr. Hart, which I must confess, I was rather nervous in a good way. I've been waiting a long time to meet him, and finally the moment came! He signed the books, an extra photo(I had bought two, so I took advantage of the "Buy one book get 1 piece of memorablila signed! lol.) And finally I gave him the shades and told him I've had them since I was 11, and was waiting for this day. He signed one side of the shades, and on the other he wrote "Hart Foundation" which made my jaw drop. That meant a lot to me. We got our picture and I shook his hand again respectfully saying "Thank you Mr. Hart" and left.

Sadly, everything anyone has heard of DC traffic is true. It took me two and half hours to get home, which I blame on the 'Skins/Cowboys game. But, at least I made it home safely. :)  Now have the book, my shades and a photo with the man, so the traffic was worth it.

The Best There is, The Best There Was, and the Best There Ever Will Be...That's gonna be hard to argue with after meeting him. I thank Bret for everything he has done and was an honor to meet him before he bid farewell to the sport.
