'Brutal' wrestling show is canceled in Lake Hiawatha

An independent wrestling show in Lake Hiawatha has been canceled after the township officials complained, according to a report in the Daily Record.

The report said the show was promoted as "one of the most brutal wrestling matches ever conceived" by the East Coast Professional Wrestling Arena where the event had been scheduled for Saturday at the wrestling school on North Beverwyck Road, school owner Gino Caruso said. Caruso said he was notified by the zoning department that he lacked a permit to hold the show, which was to have involved six wrestlers attempting to climb a ladder to grab a suitcase -- with a $10,000 check inside -- dangling above the ring.
