August 16th aired a June 1990 episode of Verne Gagne`s AWA All-Star Wrestling. The final minutes of Jonnie Stewart`s match against Tony Denucci in the light heavyweight championship re-aired. Denucci whipped Stewart to the corner, then performed a somersault into a handspring elbow strike, on the cornered Stewart. After jamming his shoulder into Stewart`s mid-section, Stewart was whipped to the opposite corner. Denucci went for another handspring elbow, but only met the turnbuckle, when Stewart fled from the charge. Stewart snap suplexed Denucci, then put his legs on the ropes for a pin. Referee Todd Becker did not see the legs on the ropes, and counted the 3 for a Stewart victory. Eric Bischoff commented that this match only proved to question if Stewart was capable in beating Denucci fair and square in the ring. With a cartoon graphic of a city at night as the background, "Rock ¡N¢ Roll" Buck Zumhofe was interviewed by Bischoff. Zumhofe said that the news was out about his return to the AWA, and that the fans will be bringing out their radios in support. Zumhofe turned up the volume on the boom box he had on his shoulder, then moved to the music. Zumhofe - "Rock "n" Rock is back in the AWA!" Yukon John Nord & "Flapjack" Scott Norton of the Lumberjacks versus Tom "Rocky" Stone & Jim Carson, with former NFL defensive end "Benchwarmer" Bob Lurtsema as special referee. Warren Zevon`s song "Werewolves of London" played as Nord and Norton walked to the ring, slapping hands with fans at ringside. In the ring, Norton charged Nord, and they continue to psyche each other up with an exchange of chest chops. Stone fell back after an unsuccessful charge on Norton. Stone was whipped to the ropes for a bear hug, and tossed to Carson for the tag. "Notorious" Ox Baker came to ringside to scout The Lumberjacks. A tagged Nord body slammed Carson twice, then whipped him to the ropes for a knockdown high boot. A tagged Norton whipped Carson for a powerslammed, and Lurtsema counted the 3, for a Lumberjacks victory. This match was under two minutes. Nord and Norton celebrate with forearm shots to the chest. In an interview, the Lumberjacks in front of a mountain background graphic. Bischoff asked if Norton`s credentials as a super heavyweight arm wrestling champion brought him a lot of challenges at lumberjack camp. Nord answered on Norton`s behalf, stating that everyone did, and Norton beat them all in two seconds. Norton spoke about The Texas Hangmen challenging thm in singles matches, but The lumberjacks wanted them in a tag team match. Norton said the Hamgmen will go down hard, fast and mean. Nord said that his team goes down for nobody, and the match will be fought Lumberjack style of kicking, chopping and slams. Nord said "We don`t care.." "..and we ain`t scared!" - said Norton. Jon "The Pistol" Pistolka versus Col. DeBeers Bischoff had introduced this match as offering a surprise opponent in Pistolka. Commentator Lee Marshall mentioned South Africa moving away from apartheid, but DeBeers had continued to upheld the old belief. DeBeers punched and picked up Pistolka twice for a body slam. Ox Baker returned to ringside, this time to scout DeBeers. After a DeBeers body slam, Pistolka ducked a clothesline, and hit DeBeers in the back with a short clothesline. Pistolka went to the top turnbuckle, but DeBeers pressed slammed him to the mat. DeBeers dropped a knee and stomped on the chest. DeBeers then planted Pistolka into the mat with a front drop piledriver. DeBeers covered and gained the 3 count victory. Ox handed DeBeers a business card, DeBeers looked it over and tossed it over his shoulder. In a post match interview at ringside, kids chanted "Turkey!" at DeBeers. DeBeers told Bischoff, that the people have no respect and tells them "Shut up!" DeBeers said his team captain in the Team Challenge Series, Sgt. Slaughter is a coward, who sends DeBeers out to do his work for him. Bischoff brought up DeBeers upcoming knockdown match with Scott Norton of the Lumberjacks. DeBeers mocked Norton`s nickname of "Flapjack", by saying a flapjack is just a big fat egg and batter cake. DeBeers spoke about being called a turkey, and he said that if he is a big fowl, then Slaughter must be a smaller one. DeBeers then said that he would not get in the ring with Norton. In a Team Challenge Series report, video highlights played of Scott Norton`s victory over Texas Hangman Psycho in a neck pull contest. Norton`s team captain Baron Von Rasche was at ringside, and was headbutted by one of the Hangmen, who had loaded their mask with a foreign object. Baron was wheeled away on a gurney. Norton then teamed up with The Trooper to face "Mean" Mike Enos, Texas Hangmen Psycho & AWA world champion Larry Zbyszko in a tag team handicap match. Trooper had brought his team to victory in three minutes, after pinning Enos. This victory gave Baron`s Blitzers` team the biggest point lead in the series. The standings show that Baron`s Blizters at 38 points, followed by Sgt. Slaughter`s Snipers at 31 points and Larry Zbyszko`s Legends at 28 points. "Rock ¡N¢ Roll" Buck Zumhofe versus W.T. Jones "Rock ¡N¢ Roll Music" by Chuck Berry played on Zumhofe`s radio, as Jones covered his ears. Zumhofe clapped to rally fan support, as referee Gary DeRousha made Jones removed his studded arm band. Commentator Lee Marshall had mentioned that WT complained about Lee calling WT`s long braided strand a Que, when WT just wanted it to be called a Tail. Zumhofe worked a headlock to a hammerlock, and snapmared WT. Zumhofe then twisted the soul of his boot on the face, then headbutted WT, who was seated in the corner. Zumhofe turned a top wristlock to a hammerlock, this brought WT to the mat. WT`s left arm was wrapped around Zumhofe`s ankle in a hammerlock, and a standing Zumhofe went back to the mat, to pressure the arm. WT screamed as Zumhofe cranked on the arm, then after being body slammed, WT came back by headbutting Zumhofe down. WT applied a applied a front face chancery, and moved away from referee DeRousha `s view of a choke. DeRousha eventually saw it, and counted WT to release. Zumhofe punched WT, then wound up on an arm wringer. Zumhofe is backed to the corner for a headbutt, whipped to the opposite corner, and nailed with a running back elbow. Zumhofe tried fighting back with a stomach punch, but was clubbed and eye raked. Zumhofe whipped WT chest first into the corner, then smashed WT into three turnbuckles, going counter clockwise. Zumhofe stepped onto the middle rope in the corner, helf the top rope, and pancake splashed onto the downed WT. Referee Gary DeRousha counted the 3 for a "Rock ¡N¢ Roll" victory. This match was under six minutes. Eric Bischoff gace an interview with AWA world heavyweight champion "Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko in front of a Larryland amusement park background. Zbyszko said that The Trooper and Nikita Koloff were the bigest crybabies. Zbyszko said that it was not a big deal about Nikita being a Russian defector, and that Trooper`s rant about truth and justice, have nothing to do with the American way of life. He said that after their chance at the title did not make the grade, that it would be D.J. Peterson getting an opportunity according to the AWA championship committee. Zbyszko said that DJ is his little piece of white meat, adding that it would be like handing a child Drain-O, as it was suicidal for DJ to want to get in the ring with the champion. Zbyszko - "I`m the man who defeated Bruno Sammartino, and ended Nick Bockwinkel`s career. Take your best shot, and I`ll see you in Larryland..jerk" "The Big Cat" Curtis Hughes gave comments backstage on his main event match against Texas Hangman Psycho. Hughes said that Psycho had no idea who he would be dealing with in the ring. Hughes promised "Psycho is gonna get scratched, and go down 1..2..3" Along with his tag team partner Killer, Texas Hangman Psycho commented his rebuke. Both Hangmen removed their leather hoods to reveal their ring masks. Psycho said that Hughes would find out the hard way, and would be screaming from their encounter. He said that no one can tell the Hangmen apart, adding "we`re never gonna lose!" and laughs. Jake "Milkman" Milliman & Tommy Jammer versus "Mean" Mike Enos & "Illustrious" Jonnie Stewart Eric Bischoff had mentioned about the rumors why Enos tag team champion partner Wayne "The Train" Bloom was not signed for this match. Bischoff said that reports had Bloom in Miami, injured, and even in the building. Bischoff said that this would not be for the AWA wolrd tag team championship. Jammer was clubbed by Stewart, body slammed and double ax handled by Enos. Stewart attacked Milliman on the floor, and then double ax handled Jammer who had Enos backing off. Enos threw referee Gary DeRousha over the top rope, then assisted Stewart by forcing Jammers` ankles down in Stewart`s spike piledriver. Bob Lurtsema entered, tackling Stewart, as Eno double ax handled down Jammer. Lurtsema charged Enos in the corner, then charged Stewart in the ropes. Lurtsema slamped an Iron Claw on Enos, and commentator Lee Marshall said that must have been taught by Baron Von Raschke. Enos gets free to flee from the ring with Stewart. As Stewart is leaving, he kicked Gary DeRousha, who was laying face down on the floor. This match would be ruled a disqualification to Enos and Stewart, and Bischoff said that he would an update on Enos` x-rays, as Enos complained to have a broken shoulder from Lurtsema`s tackle. Curtis "The Cat" Hughes versus Texas Hangman Psycho Both Hangmen came to the ring in their leather vest and chaps. They removed their hoods, to reveal their ring masks, and raised arms for a boo call. "Bust A Move" by Young MC played as Hughes slapped fans` hands and danced at ringside. Hughes then danced on the ring apron. As the match is underway, Hughes backed Psycho to the corner. Psycho lands a stomach punch, but Psycho fell backwards after his corner whip was reversed. Hughes whipped Psycho for a back body drop, then Hughes called for Psycho to come out of the corner. After a barrage of punches and kicks by Hughes, Psycho exited to the floor. Hughes rallies fans with claps, then the camera shows Ox Baker arriving at ringside for this match. Psycho returned to the ring, and Hughes got him to engage in a Greco-Roman knucklelock. Hughes brought Psycho`s hands to the mat, and stomped on them. Psycho was arm dragged to an arm bar. Psycho was charged down, after pushing off Hughes to the ropes. Hughes then sprung off the ropes again for an arm drag. At ringside, Killer rattles the cow bell that is tied to a bullrope. Hughes was pushed to the ropes, then leapfrogged over Psycho`s back drop attempt. Hughes then sent Psycho crashing down with a dropkick. Hughes wound up on standing arm wringer, Psycho raked the eyes to release himself. Hughes blocked Psycho`s strike, and caught Psycho with a knockdown right fist. Psycho clubbed at Hughes, snapmared him, and went to the floor. Psycho pulled Hughes onto the ring apron to elbowed the chest. Psycho re-entered the ring, and distratced referee Gary DeRousha, as Killer choked Hughes. Kilelr released it and laughed, as Psycho returned to step on Hughe`s neck. DeRousha backed off Psycho, and Killer went right back to the choke. Killer released and raised his arm for a boo call. After unsuccessly trying to smash Hughes in the corner, Hughes smashed Psycho`s head into the turnbuckle. Hughes headbutted and after the seconds butt, Psycho dropped face first to the mat. Hughes hooked the leg on a pin covered, for the count of 2. A cornered Hughes was eye rakes, punched, then had his face rubbed against the top rope. Psycho snapmared Hughes for a chinlock, as Killer rattled the cowbell. Psycho extended his arm for Killer to pull, giving extra pressure on the chinlock. Referee DeRousha checked and Killer denied interfering. Killer goes back to pulling on Psycho`s arm, and releases as DeRousha came back to check. Hughes was whipped for a back elbow, stomped in the chest and double ax handled. Hughes clubbed at Psycho, but Psycho eye raked him. Psycho kicked a cornered Hughes and is corner whipped. Psycho whipped Hughes for a clothesline, but Hughes clubbed and dropkicked Psycho out of the ring. Killer got in the ring and begged off Hughes, but was headbutted down. Psycho goes to the ring apron, and Hughes yanked the top rope, bringing Psycho into the ring. Referee Gary DeRousha signaled the bell, closing the match after six minutes. Hughes rammed The Hangemn`s heads together. Psycho was dropped kicked from the ring, and then Killer was dropkicked out. Ox baker handed his business card to Hangmen, as they looked pleased by the offer. Commentators Lee Marshall and Greg Gagne didn`t understand the ruling. They found out that Hughes had been disqualified for bringing in the other Hangman, though referee DeRousha did not known that the man brought in was actually Psycho. Even though senior official Gary DeRousha fell for the Hangmen`s tactics, Greg Gagne said that there needed to be experienced referee in dealing with them. Backstage, Eric Bischoff said that former nose tackle Hughes was the wrestling equivalent of twelve men on the field. Hughes said that The hangmen realized that they had no chance in winning, but they got lucky this time. Hughes - "Next time, you will go down 1..2..3, and that`s a promise baby!"
