Funk’s Corner - Dory Funk Sr., Jack Brisco, Joe Louis and Samoa Joe

Joe Louis held the world heavyweight championship for eleven years and eight months; longer than any other man.

Stanley Weston of - Boxing Illustrated / Wrestling News wrote, "All you ever needed from Joe Louis was a nod or a handshake. You could go to sleep on what he said. If you needed his help, he was right there, and he never asked anything.

In regard to World War II, Joe Louis said, "We'll win because we're right."

If ever a fighter seemed unbeatable, it was Joe Louis during the 2:04 seconds that the fight lasted against Max Schmeling.

In 1965, Joe Louis worked the Amarillo Territory as a referee and at times in six man tag matches armed with a boxing glove on one hand.

In the weeks prior to Joe Louis coming, we aired video of his great fights against Primo Carnera, Buddy Baer, Max Baer, Two Ton Tony Galento and the Massacre of Max Schmelling in New York.

After watching video of this awesome fighter, I had the privilege of meeting Joe Louis in person. When we shook hands, I could feel the power and size of his fist, but I was even more impressed by what a nice person he was.
