If you were a fan of the original ECW, you know the name Jason Knight. What you might not have known is that he is a very accomplished wrestler in his own right and was capable of more than being a manager. After all, he has wrestled for NWA/WCW against such names as Ric Flair and the WWF against such names as Lex Luger in the main event of an episode of RAW.
Now that ECW is gone and his own promotion, ACW, is no more, Jason has decided the time has come to open a dojo and teach wrestlers just how to actually be a wrestler. In this interview, Jason will explain how he feels students should be trained, why he is a better trainer than Paul Roma, and why his school is called a dojo and not just a training facility. He will also explain how you can learn from stars such as himself, Justin Credible, and so many other former ECW stars that make appearances assisting in training like Angel Orsini, Kid Kash, and more.

Jason Knight
- ECW Original Jason Knight comes onto the show and the conversation begins with him talking about his “Sexiest Man Alive” moniker. He said it was Paul Heyman’s idea, and they ran with it. He says that Paul has an incredible mind for the business.
- He was with ECW when that stood for “Eastern Championship Wrestling” and he say it explode into a big promotion and he felt it was great to be a part of a trendsetting product. ECW’s influence was shown on WWF & WCW, and he talks about ECW’s influence on wrestling.
- When talking about the new ECW, he talks about how the WWE’s version just doesn’t have the heart or the intensity that the original promotion did. He said the roster was full of team players back then.
- He talks about being a manager and how it was an opportunity for him to do something. He also says that Paul used him as a troubleshooter to help out young talents. He heavily puts over his match with Jazz as one of the matches he’s most proud of.
- He said that in the end, ECW got so big that it kind of lost its ground. He says the same thing about WWE’s ECW and talks about how he saw the first taping and knew it wasn’t going to work. Jason feels that almost everybody has almost nothing good to say about the product and feels like its only an extension of the WWE.
- Jason also feels that Vince McMahon doesn’t have respect for anything that he didn’t create, which includes NWA, WCW, ECW, and the like, but also talks about how the educated fans know better.
- He then says that it is beneficial for young wrestlers to watch old tapes to learn from. He talks about the guys who use a lot of spots and compares it to The Matrix or Kill Bill and says its not good. There is then a long conversation about all the things that young wrestlers do wrong.
- Jason then says that a lot of the guys that make it big, they earned their spots because the worked their asses off and politics wouldn’t have mattered as much as some people think. Chris Benoit is listed as an example of this description.
- Going back to training the younger talents, Jason says that a lot of the trainers today are guys that didn’t make it big and it leads to the watered down effect that Al Snow talked about in our previous interview. Jason then talks about how trainers like Hiro Matsuda would be really hard on young wrestlers in order to teach them respect and show them what the moves mean.
- When talking about his Dojo, he says that he is not going to disrespect the young kids and teachers respect. He cites Paul Roma as a good example of a poorly run wrestling school.
- He left ECW for a while to go work in Japan. He says that it was a tough decision, but did well in Japan and Paul brought him back to ECW.
- James then asks Jason if it was true about him working producing on a music video, but Jason says that it wasn’t true. However, this shifts the conversation to them talking about their tastes in music.
- Jason ran his own promotion and he felt that being the promoter is tough, and he always knew it would be just from watching people like Paul Heyman. He says he’d do things differently now, but he learned as he went.
- Going back to talking about training in his Dojo, he says that there isn’t any set system, but its like “magic” where they move the guys up when they feel they are ready. He says the first 3 months are just basic training and then everything starts to click from there. They aim to make sure the young talents don’t make damaging mistakes.
- Jason trained Velvet Sky who is now a TNA Knockout and says that he is proud of her progression. This then leads into a discussion about TNA’s Knockout Division and Jason feels its great that the women are doing so well. He says that TNA is hit or miss with him, but feels the Women’s division really shines.
- When talking about the WWE product, he says that they are doing some things right now and puts over an Umaga vs. Hardy match that opened up a recent episode of Raw.
- Jason is then asked if he thinks the ECW fans that watched him have any idea that he had such a long and historic past, and he says he feels the fans were educated and they saw it, even when he was a jobber, which he says is an important part of wrestling.
- When asked about working with Jasmin St. Claire and 3PW, Jason basically says it was a fun place to work while it lasted but in regards to working with Jasmin, she had too many problems that he didn't want to get involved with so they parted ways relatively quickly.
- We then close out with Word Associations which include his thoughts on Ric Flair, Jim Powers, Justin Credible, Lance Storm, Jasmine St. Claire, and a few others!
