MMA Camp 6/23, 24 & 25

We have a couple of things going on that I would like for
you to know about.  First off, this weekend on Sunday April 23rd we have a
submission grappling tournament.  If you are interested in participating in this
tournament, you can get all of the details at www.dansevern.com under “Danger
Zone.”
Also, I have another MMA Camp on June 23rd, 24th & 25th.  This will be the
fifth one that I hosted and I honestly feel that this is very beneficial for
those who are looking to begin their MMA Career or looking to add more to their
arsenal.  I will be honest; the techniques that I will personally teach are
taking control of your opponent such as clinches and throws.  I will also go
into various takedowns and ground tactics.  I do have another instructor that
will be assisting me (if not more) by the name of Paul Bowers.  Paul has
dominant stand up ability in Muay Thai Kickboxing and more.  Pete Jennett was an
excellent assistant instructor for our previous MMA Camp and hopefully he can be
back to help out again.
If you are involved in Law Enforcement or looking to better yourself in self
defense, this course would also benefit you.  Contact us at [email protected]
to request a training schedule.  You will receive all meals and dorm stay as
part of the package for a total amount of $295.00.  There are only so many spots
so sign up today at www.dansevern.com.
Also, for those signed up for the newsletter… We have the “Danger Zone 33:
Resurrection” on DVD available now for $19.99 + $2.95.  Email us at
[email protected] if you are interested in receiving an invoice for this Brand
New Ultimate Fighting DVD.  The DVD’s will be available on www.dansevern.com by
May 1st.

Exploring The Beastly World

Galileo, Magellan, Lewis and Clark, Christopher Columbus… these are a few names
of great explorers who took a huge risk against everything from falling off the
edge of the earth to the possibilities of encountering a giant sea serpent that
would surely bring death to the entire crew.  This is how I basically feel when
I travel to another country minus the sea serpent and falling off the edge of
the earth.  It’s the excitement or anticipation of the unknown.  What new sites
will I see or strange customs will I encounter.  In a lot of ways I feel like a
kid discovering things for the very first time.
I was previously in Mexico City visiting our neighbors to the south.  While
living in Arizona I went to a number of the border towns, but that is only a
sampling of the culture.  Flying into Mexico City’s airport, I am now the
foreigner… I must blend into their lifestyles.  Within the first couple of hours
I am trying to remember back to my high school Spanish class for a few token
words that I could exchange as pleasantries.  I pay close attention to those
that are speaking to analyze body language, facial expressions, and vocal tones
to try and comprehend what they are talking about.  Mexico is a country that is
a blend of old and new.  When the radio station is turned on, there is Spanish
music of course, but when turned to the stations that play American music it’s a
step back in time.  It’s the same music that I listened to when I was in high
school and college, which is not a bad thing at all.  It brings back many, many
good memories.
As I look around I think in a lot of ways that Mexico is a lot like what the
United States was like in the 60’s, 70’s, but with the inclusion of computers.
The mass’ live more like the 60’s and 70’s with many newer high tech companies
moving in to take advantage of the lower man power wages.  I look upon it as a
strange sight to see an internet café right next to an open air meat market with
slabs of meat just hanging there exposed to all the surrounding elements.
When this was written, the exchange rate is 10.8 pesos to the American dollar.
Seeing vendors set up on every street corner peddling their goods, at most
street intersections you have individuals walking and weaving through the
stopped automobile selling everything from a pack of gum and soft drink to
necklaces, flowers and other goods and souvenirs.  I see men pushing two wheeled
dollies everywhere loaded with everything and every different combination that
you can think of.  The sight of Volkswagen bugs painted green and white used as
taxi cabs are all over the place.  This country cries out entrepreneurship and
capitalism at it’s finest!!!
My purpose for being here is to teach a seminar for a few hours, to watch
students who are going for their next rank, and to conduct a motivational talk
which should provide some comic relief for me because of the language barrier.
I will have an interpreter who will translate for me, but with even that I may
say a word that does not exist in Spanish or is translated as something totally
different.
Make it a point to explore something new and different.  You don’t have to
travel to another country to do this.  You can go in your own backyard and see
the wonders of Mother Nature springing back to life… the trees, your lawn and
the flowers.  The birds are singing and there is more sunlight being given to us
on a daily basis.  I especially like to look up at the stars at night.  You can
see the various constellations.  Just explore in your own community.  Go to a
store, A shop, or a restaurant that you have never been to before.  Smile and
say hello to someone new… you may be surprised at the effect that it has on
them.
Wishing you safe travels as you embark upon your journey.

All the Best from the Beast,
Dan Severn
