I attended DreamCatcher International's Wrestling Legends on Tour in St. Charles, Mo on Saturday, May 8. The experience was well worth the drive and the majority of the wrestlers were very accessible and personable with the fans. This was Buck Robley and Mike Palmermo's first joint venture and at moments it definately showed. The only advertised wrestler not able to attend was Abdullah the Butcher...no reason was given or announced. Bob Backlund showed up, not as a part of the promotion, but as an outside vendor. Though dressed in his usual "Mr. Backlund" outfit, he fortunately stayed out of character and was easy to talk to.
Just some basic observations of the day's event:
* Very low attendance - which was surprising considering the talent that was advertised
* VIPs were promised that entrance would begin at 8:00a.m., however doors did not open until 10:00 (general public admission)
* Autograph and photo op prices were not clearly marked and produced ALOT of confusion not only among the fans but among the wrestlers who were visibly upset by the lack of communication. Animal and Ted Dibiase were especially upset.
* The majority of the wrestlers hung around the convention center hall talking with the fans for the better part of 7 hours - just on Saturday.
* Special kudos to Bill Apter and Gary Cubeta (57talk.com) for entertaining the crowd throughout the day with Q & A.
Overall, I believe, the fans had a chance to meet, interact, get autographs and photos with the legends for very reasonable prices. The lack of planning and preparation did take away from the event, but nonetheless it was an excellent opportunity to meet some of the greatest stars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
