…….

Hey Georgie -

We featured a story on Bruno Sammartino this month in conjunction with an appearance he made at a local NCW show. He had a lot of interesting things to say about his career, as well as other wrestling personalities. Bruno was one of the most upstanding men I’ve ever had the pleasure of talking to, and truly one of the kindest wrestlers I’ve ever met. How many present day wrestlers will talk on the phone with a writer for almost an hour and a half and entertain every single question they have? I don’t know – but Bruno did.

It turned out to be a pretty interesting read (I hope) for wrestling fans. Just thought I’d pass it along.

The sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden is barely visible beyond a brightly lit wrestling ring on the night of January 18, 1971.
A bell sounds and the crowd gives an excited hum as two hulks circle each other like caged lions. One is the challenger – “The Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff. The other has reigned as World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) World Heavyweight Champion for the last seven years, eight months and one day – Bruno Sammartino.
The two men unleash moves at a fast and furious pace – backdrops, scoop-slams, arm-drags, mighty right hands, Irish-whips, swift kicks to the midsection.
