Keep your letters coming. Page 4 and counting…..

Georgie,

I am one who feels that Congress should worry more about the poor and the elderly, and feeding disadvantaged children and making sure that God
is not forgotten in our schools and other issues in this country than about steroids in wrestling and once again steroids in baseball.

Why are we wasting time on this?  Why do we have to drag Vince McMahon and presumably WWE Superstars in front of Congress? For what purpose?
Just like the steroids in baseball dog and pony show awhile back and now Congress is going to put on ANOTHER dog and pony show starring Roger Clemens and the gang.  I am a die hard Yankees fan, and I could care
less. I never liked Clemens to begin with.  I don't believe him anyway.
I think kids and young boys are more influenced by "real athletes" than by pro wrestlers.....if you look at the ratings, I think the NFL is king.....even MLB gets better ratings than WWE gets.

Trust me, I get laughed at by fans of "real athletes" when I ADMIT I am a wrestling fan. They dismiss pro wrestling as "fake." They act like these guys and gals can't get hurt.  Of course they talk about the drugs, forgetting about their so called "real" athletes like Shawn
Merriman who served a 4 game suspension for steroids.  One of the Saints, Hollis, got suspended for steroids.  The Steelers had a doctor on their staff last year (no longer there now) who was caught up in an HGH ring! He claimed he never gave it to the players. There is no testing for HGH in the NFL. How convenient! What about all these MLB players caught up in the Mitchell Report?  They have much more of an influence on young people than WWE Stars.

We should not be making these celebrities role models anyway in my opinion. They are just celebrities.

I feel Congress should be paying attention to helping the poor and the disadvantaged, and making sure God is not forgotten in this country and protect life.  We still have troops over in Iraq and we need to help them out as well and protect freedom.  I know to Mr. Cruise, it is important to him that Congressman Waxman have this dog and pony show but I don't see how it is going to do any good.

I don't like that steroids are used by the Superstars either, but it is up to the WWE, a private company to handle the issue, not Congress to get themselves on TV so they can have a dog and pony show.  They did this with heavy metal music (PMRC), MLB, and now they want to do it with the WWE.  Enough already.

I am not trying to say bury the problem and pretend it does not exist.
I don't think WWE has a great "Wellness policy." I just think the Government should just keep their hands off private business.

Terri, I beg to differ with you.  And we do have our freedom of speech, so here I go.

I think you are totally wrong.

It is not a waste of time for Congress to go after Athletes who have broken the law, by taking illegal steroids.  A law was passed to go after athletes who take steroids.  That law should be upheld.
Don't forget teenagers look up to their idols, whether it be wrestling, Baseball, Football or any other sport.  Seeing the guys on steroids, may give them the idea to use them too.

BUT the most important item is that the wrestlers have been dying left and right.  DRUGS need to be controlled to stop unnecessary deaths.

I also beg to differ with you stating that the WWE is a private company.
The WWE is a public company on the stock market, WWE.  Therefore they should be held accountable to their stock holders.
BTW, WWE stocks yesterday closed at $14.13 which was up 7 cents.

In closing, I agree with Chris Cruise and I want to see Congress go forward on their quest to clean up the Sports.

And I don't ever want to see something happen like it did with the Benoit's.

I think this is a very good topic, and the question of the week.
Do you think Congress should go forward with their investigations of steroids in Professional Sports?
