The opening round of the 2005 WRESTLE-1 GP took place on August 4th in Tokyo at Ryogoku Kokugikan, claiming 10,500 paid. Results:

1. Mil Mascaras & Terry Funk defeated Tomoaki Honma & Katsuhiko Nakajima in 10 minutes, 19 seconds when Mascaras used a flying body attack on Nakajima for the win.

2. Kaz Hayashi defeated AJ Styles in 14 minutes, 38 seconds with the Final Cut.

3. W-1 GP: Kohei Suwama defeated The Predator in 7 minutes, 36 seconds with a back-drop suplex hold.

4. W-1 GP: Gen'ichiro Tenryu defeated Kazunari Murakami in 7 minutes, 29 seconds by disqualification from referee violence. A wild brawl with both guys attacking each other vigorously early on. Murakami went after Tenryu with a beer bottle attack and ended up hitting the referee.

5. W-1 GP: Bob Sapp defeated Giant Bernard in 5 minutes, 30 seconds with a school-boy roll-up. The finish saw TARU attack Sapp with a bamboo sword once, then go for a second attack and hit Bernard accidentally. This allowed Sapp to get the quick roll-up. After the finish, Bernard attacked TARU and gave him the Baldo Bomb in retaliation.

- Akira Maeda came out with a picture of Shin'ya Hashimoto and a 10-count gong ceremony was performed.

6. W-1 GP: Kensuke Sasaki defeated Riki Choshu in 6 minutes, 10 seconds with a Northern Lights Bomb.

7. W-1 GP: Jun Akiyama defeated Katsuyori Shibata in 13 minutes, 46 seconds with a wrist-clutch exploder. Aggressive match with Shibata giving Akiyama the Penalty Kick twice and Akiyama countering back with a chair attack and the front neck lock. Shibata was played up as the young punk who was annoying Akiyama and Akiyama had to stop him with his best finisher.

8. W-1 GP: Great Muta defeated Akebono in 10 minutes, 8 seconds with 4 Shining Wizards and a moonsault press.

New Japan ran their August 4th G-1 tournament show at Fukuoka International Center, claiming 4,000 paid. Results:

1. B Block: Yutaka Yoshie (2 pts) defeated Shin'ya Makabe (0 pts) in 12 minutes, 23 seconds with a diving body press.

2. B Block: Hiroshi Tanahashi (1 pt) and Toru Yano (1 pt) went to a 30-minute draw.

3. A Block: Osamu Nishimura (1 pt) and Minoru Suzuki (1 pt) went to a 30-minute draw.

4. A Block: Tatsumi Fujinami (2 pts) defeated Kendo Ka Shin (0 pts) in 4 minutes, 50 seconds with a Ground Cobra Twist.

5. B Block: Kazuyuki Fujita (2 pts) defeated Tatsutoshi Goto (0 pts) in 3 minutes, 19 seconds with a front sleeper hold.
