NOSTALGIA

Tony Padrone defeated Hugh Winn in the main event at the Fair Street Arena for promoter Jason Thompson. It was reported that Padrone was claiming both the Georgia Light Heavyweight Title and the Southern Light Heavyweight Title. It is unclear as to how he came to be recognized as such. The last reference we have for the Georgia Light Heavyweight Title shows Winn being billed as champion on November 27, 1933. The origin of the Southern Light Heavyweight Title is unclear to us at this time.

Orville Brown defeated George Hill in two straight falls in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Henry Weber.

Sammy Miller defeated Young Americus two falls to one in the main event at Supreme Circle Hall in Albany for promoter Frank Bettis.

Dorv Roche defeated Blue Sun Jennings by disqualification in the main event at Loew’s Grand Theatre in Atlanta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Frank Speer.

Don & Red McIntyre defeated Jack Dillon & Karl Kowalski in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

Freddie Blassie defeated Dickie Gunkel (Dick Steinborn) to win the Southern Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. It is unclear as to how Freddie Blassie lost recognition as Southern Heavyweight Champion. The last reference we have shows Blassie defending the title against Johnny Weaver on November 20, 1959, in Atlanta. Although Ray Gunkel was billed as champion, he allowed Dickie Gunkel to defend the Southern Heavyweight Title against Blassie, since he was injured. Angelo Poffo interfered during the match to help Blassie.

A main event match between Mike Paidousis and Lenny Montana was ruled a no contest at the Macon City Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.

Bob Morrow defeated Luke Graham in the main event at the Columbus Municipal Auditorium for promoter Fred Ward, who was not affiliated with the Atlanta office of Georgia Championship Wrestling at this time.

Mario Galento defeated Freddie Blassie to retain the Georgia Heavyweight Title in a cage match at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Tony Baillargeon was the special referee for the match, which was stopped when Baillargeon deemed Blassie unable to continue to wrestle, enraging Blassie. Galento had been the reigning champion since he defeated Sputnik Monroe on November 13, 1964, in Atlanta.

The Assassins defeated Bobby Shane & Doug Gilbert to retain the Georgia Tag Team Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. The Assassins had been the reigning champions since they defeated Mr. Ito & the Great Ota in a tournament final on October 16, 1970, in Atlanta.

Tim Woods & Mr. Wrestling #2 defeated Macon Tag Team Champions Bobby Shane & Gorgeous George, Jr., by disqualification in a title match at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Shane & George, Jr., had been the reigning champions since they defeated Woods & Wrestling #2 on November 6, 1973, in Macon. Because of the disqualification, they retained the title. Also of note, a match between Freddie Blassie and Luke Graham was ruled a no contest in the semi-main event.

Luke Graham & Moondog Mayne won the Macon Tag Team Title at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. The parings and results were not documented specifically, but other teams participating in the tournament were Ron Garvin & Nikolai Volkoff, Brute Bernard & the Spoiler, Jay Strongbow & Mr. Wrestling #2, Tony Garea & Dean Ho, Rocket Monroe & Billy Spears, Les Thornton & Tony Charles, and Jerry Brisco & Dick Slater.
