World Wrestling Entertainment’s RAW crew will be at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY, tonight. Tickets for the following WWE events go on sale tomorrow: August 9 in Newark, DE, at the Bob Carpenter Center, August 10 in Binghamton, NY, at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, August 19 in Moline, IL, at the I Wireless Center, August 24 in Canton, OH, at the Canton Memorial Civic Center, August 25 in Wilkes- Barre, PA, at the Wachovia Arena, September 5 in Rochester, NY, at the Blue Cross Arena, and September 12 in Texarkana, AR, at the Four States Fair Entertainment Center. Alternative Pro Wrestling returns to Royston, GA, at the Royston Gym on Cherry Street tonight. Bell time is 8:15 pm. The build is on for “Freedom Fight 2008” to be held on August 1. Advertised: New North Georgia Champion Chris Mayne, with Kevin Duncan, will have his first title defense against "Kool" Seth Delay. Chris King will take on Dustin Powers, with Aaron Lee. In three-way tag action, APW Tag Team Champions Azrael and Darkness will defend against The Friday Night Franchise and Slim J & Bo Newsome. Also advertised are Don Matthews Jeremy Vain, J.T. Championship Wrestling Overload presents “Pick Your Poison”, a special fan interaction night, tonight at the Johnson County Recreational Department in Wrightsville, GA. Doors open at 7pm and bell time is at 8pm. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12, and kids 6 and under are admitted free. This is an event in which the fans will be able to select the stipulations for the matches, including ladder matches, cage matches, strap matches, barb-wire matches, Russian chain matches, and more. Advertised: Dog Collar Match, Last Man Standing, National Heavyweight Championship, Bobby Joiner (c) vs. T.W. James. CWO Tag Team Championship, Damien & Damien Dread (c) vs. The New Generation. Great Championship Wrestling results from July 10 in Phenix City, AL, at the GR8 SK8 Plex, with a reported attendance of approximately 275: GCW Interstate Champion J-Rod pinned Shaun Banks. Murder One (with Wicked Nemesis) pinned Alex Silva. Sonny Siaki pinned Rob Russo (the ring announcer forced to wrestle by Quentin Michaels). Zero Tolerance (with Princeton Gainey III) pinned Kareem-Abdul Jamar. Disco Inferno beat Orion Bishop (with Wicked Nemesis) by disqualification when Murder One interfered. Cru Jones beat Johnny Swinger (with Tracy Taylor) and Micah Taylor in a three-way to win the GCW Heavyweight Championship when Jones pinned Taylor. Swinger, Michaels, and the Taylors all argued over who the champion was until Diane Hewes came out and made the triple threat match to determine the new champion. Russo was forced to wrestle Siaki by Michaels as a last-minute substitute for David Young, who was taken out by a pre-show attack. After the match, Young made the save for Russo. Supercade Wrestling results from Wellford, SC, on July 10: Freight Train over Bobby Diamond, with help from Ken Magnum; Magnum over Vinnie Valentine; Rex Rumble over Erik Anton; Matt Burns over Krypto and Squeaks Da Clown in a three-way to become the SW Hardcore Champion; Kid Chaos over A.J. Frost and Jamie Lee to win the SW US Heavyweight Title; and Adam Jaxon over Johnny Danger in a ladder match to take the SW Heavyweight Title. Jaxon and Danger had been the last men standing in a battle royal to earn the spot in the match for the inaugural title. (Rich Tate)

NWA East is presenting a tribute show to Sean ‘Shocker’ Evans at the Jacob Woll Pavilion at Renziehauzen Park in McKeesport, PA, on August 2. The event will start at 7:30 PM. In a message sent to us from NWA East was the following: “Last fall, NWA East lost an old friend. Sean "Shocker" Evans passed away following a long, brave battle with lung cancer. Sean began his career with NWA East before moving on to Georgia where he joined the WCW Power Plant. When the Power Plant closed, he remained in Georgia to work with Dusty Rhodes' Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling, as well as ECW, also wrestling several matches for WWE. In 2006, the non-smoker Evans was diagnosed with lung cancer, and unfortunately succumbed to the disease in October 2007. Our August 2nd showcase event, August Anarchy 2, will feature the first annual Sean "Shocker" Evans Memorial Tournament. The entire event will be dedicated to Sean's legacy as we honor one of NWA East's first and finest competitors with a one-night tournament. The first-annual Sean Evans Memorial Tournament: First Round: Brandon K vs. "Division 1" James Ross. Also entered in the tournament: NWA National Champion Crusher Hansen, Pittsburgh wrestling legend Lord Zoltan, Patrick Hayes, Chris Taylor, and 2 more entrants to be named. Plus: NWA East Heavyweight Champion Sterling James Keenan defends against Ashton Amhurst. A possible match featuring Anderson Silva versus Diego Sanchez is being rumored when Ultimate Fighting Championship 88 takes place at Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA, on September 6 for a live PPV, beginning at 7:00 PM. The program for this card featured an advertisement for Hub Ford at 3310 Peachtree Road, claiming Jim Wilson drove a 1969 LTD, “So why don’t you tackle one?” It was announced that Joe Scarpa would be wrestling on the card on July 18, 1969, and that Terry Funk & Dory Funk, Jr., would be wrestling in Atlanta soon.

Rock Hunter managed Abdullah the Butcher. It is believed that Stan Stasiak was scheduled to wrestle on this card. This card was held following a Major League Baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets as part of a promotion designed by Ted Turner and Braves Public Relations Director Bob Hope, creatively called “Headlock and Wedlock”. Prior to the game, nine couples were simultaneously married as ten players from each team held bats for them to walk under on the way to saying their vows. After the game, four matches featuring ten wrestlers took place, though very little information has been found at this time. Incidentally, the Braves lost 9-8 in front of 14,661, though it is unknown how many people watched the pre-game and post-game festivities.
