WWE results from the James Brown Arena in Augusta, GA, on July 13: Finlay over Carlito; the Great Khali over Evan Bourne; Mr. Kennedy over Mike Knox; John Morrison & the Miz over Jesse & Festus; Matt Hardy over Shelton Benjamin and MVP in a three-way; Michelle McCool & Cherry over Victoria & Maryse; Mark Henry, with Tony Atlas, over Tommy Dreamer; and Jeff Hardy over Edge in a no disqualification match. Total Nonstop Action results from the Victory Road PPV at the Reliant Arena in Houston, TX, on July 13: Gail Kim over Angelina Love; Sonjay Dutt over Jay Lethal; the Latin American Xchange over Robert Roode & James Storm in a fan participation lumberjack match to retain the TNA World Tag Team Title; Taylor Wilde over Awesome Kong to retain the TNA Women’s Title; Team Mexico won the World X Cup; Kurt Angle & Team 3-D over Christian Cage, A.J. Styles & Rhino; and the match featuring Samoa Joe defending the TNA World Heavyweight Title against Booker T ended in chaos, with all the referees getting clobbered, followed by Sting knocking Joe out with a baseball bat, and Booker covering Joe for Sharmell to make the count of three. Wild Bill’s will present “Fight Night”, co-sponsored by Hooter’s, on July 18 at 2075 Markey Street in Duluth, GA. The MMA event will be taped for Comcast On Demand. Matches begin at 8:30 PM. The venue is an 18 and up club. Tickets range from $25 to $100, the latter including access to a VIP room with dinner catered from Hooter’s. JULY 14, 1950 (FRIDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM [P] (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Buddy Knox defeated Bob Shipp > Eddie Gossett defeated Red Roberts at 0:05 > Tarzan White & Bibber McCoy defeated Tom Mahoney & Angelo Cistoldi > Southern Heavyweight Title Match: Art Nelson* defeated Nick Carter / Notes: Bob Shipp substituted for Jim Coffield in the match with Buddy Knox. Paul Jones would later claim that the match between Eddie Gossett and Red Roberts was the shortest match ever in Atlanta. Art Nelson had been the reigning Southern Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Don McIntyre on July 7, 1950, in Atlanta. It was reported that Nelson was refusing to give McIntyre a rematch, and that McIntyre was blaming himself because he should have made sure there was a rematch clause in their contract. It was announced that Beverly Lehmer would wrestle Jean Holland, and that Mae Young would wrestle Eva Lee, on the card on July 28, 1950. It was also announced that Farmer Jones would be wrestling in Atlanta soon.

JULY 14, 1984 (SATURDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – “WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING” (Vince McMahon – Promoter / World Wrestling Federation) Notes: This was the infamous “Black Saturday” incident, with Freddy Miller introducing Vince McMahon was the host, who went on to broadcast taped matches from the World Wrestling Federation. McMahon had been working for months to buy the company, and reportedly had controlling interest already, but earlier in the week leading up to this episode was finally sold the remaining shares belonging to Ole Anderson and Fred Ward.
