GEORGIE’s NOTES & NEWS FOR 9/20/07

….

Cable ratings this week went down to 3.3 from last week's 3.9.  Concern is high backstage in WWE camp.  I have to tell you, I have missed not seeing Mr. Kennedy and of course, Shawn Michaels.
I have a two part question for this coming week
Since the WWE Raw ratings were down a lot this week, my question this week is:

What is wrong with WWE programming, and what can be done to fix it, so fans return to watching again??  What will make it fun watching WWE TV again??

And will you be watching TNA when they start their two hour shows in October??  Because then storylines can become more involved.

Hopefully we can run a nice thread like we did for your autograph signings experience.  Come on join it, lets make this a fun project.

TNA PREVIEW FOR TONIGHT
TNA Wrestling returns to SpikeTV at 9pm as we continue down the road to the October 14 “Bound For Glory” Pay-Per-View spectacular! Below is a preview of what is scheduled for the broadcast:

The maniacal Judas Mesias will make his TNA in-ring debut, facing off against Eric Young! The question is, what is the condition of Abyss after Thursday’s brutal attack? Will Abyss even be in attendance at “iMPACT!” and if so, will all hell break loose?

Opponents in the TNA World Tag Team Championship match at “Bound For Glory” will face off in singles action this Thursday night as “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles battles Ron “The Truth” Killings!

After being attacked by Kurt and Karen Angle this past week, Sting will speak out this Thursday night on “iMPACT!” about the situation as well as his upcoming TNA World Heavyweight Championship bout against Angle at “Bound For Glory”.

“The Instant Classic” Christian Cage will face off against the debuting Junior Fatu! Without a doubt, Samoa Joe and Mat Morgan will be watching this bout closely!

All this and much more on Thursday night on “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV – plus more news and updates on the upcoming “Bound For Glory”.

Report on Hall Of Fame Dinner
Sorry this article is coming in an untimely manner but I have been overwhelmed with bookings and still recuperating from the PWHF fundraiser dinner.

Kudos to Terry Gunn for putting together a great festive evening, along with all the others too.  I don't know if I can remember all the names so forgive me if I left you off the list;Tony Vellano,  John Pantozz, etc etc.  I tried to help beforehand as much as I could since my last two dinners, one in Valley Stream (Pantozzi's) and one at the Hall in Amsterdam, NY were quite impressive.  The Hall of Fame up there is comparable to Canton, Ohio and even baseballs' glory...and I mean that from the standpoint of an outsider not a mark or a fan or a booker or businessperson.  If you can get there it's a no brainer.

My Saturday began on a downnote as I awoke to a heavy rain here on Long Island.  It was my voluntary job to pick up George The Animal Steele at Newark at about 1:40 PM.  I figured the drive there would be unusually horrid but to my delight the skies cleared and I got there in considerably due fashion....as did Mr Turnbuckle eater.....who arived about 20 minutes early and of course I ID'd him going down the steps in a heartbeat.  Geroge Steele is one of my childhood heroes who I've met in the past yeaqrs in the business but for whatever reason never really got to know too well...perhaps because he had a real job teaching and didn't hang with most of the rest of the boys.

Upon introducing myself, I discovered he had no onboard luggage so we trotted ahead to get my car from the lot.  I actually remembered where I parked it.  For the record, it was a rental, my wonderful 2007 Denali was vandalized a few weeks ago and in the shop for repairs so I had this freebie insurance rental and brought along my little Magellan portable GPS, which I really dont need in the new car as it has a built in system, but this one was purchased before I had my new wheels.

George asked me if I was ever a worker and just his perhaps thinking that due to maybe mysize and look was a mini ego blaster for me and we seemed to bond quickly.  Then my friggin GPS...I programmed in the hotel address, George asks me about how long to get there, I thought half an hour but 20 minutes came out of my mouth..

I now know George Steele is an alumni of Michigan State, coached football, and is a tremendous college football fan.  He watched the first half of the Mich St vs Pitt game on Jet Blue and was in a rush to see the rest of the close game upon checking into the hotel.

Driving and talking, I followed the GPS directions which took us into lalal land, and after close to an hout "The Animal" became that agitated in ring persona almost eating a turnbuckle.... we were totally lost.....thank God he had Tony Vellano's cell number, we got the hotel number and directions from them... and actually stumbled on the place.
Being embarrassed, George politely told me it wasn't my fault, after all I'm from Long Island, they should have sent someone who knew the area.  He ribbed me a bit about getting lost, ribbed Vellano, but was a true gentleman and had quite a perspective on the business today.

By the way, George Steele is a co founder of the PWHF along with Tony Vellano and donates much of his time to that cause.  It was great hearing him say, and I concur, "It's the only legit thing out there".  He couldn't have coined a phrase better.

The dinner I estimated had about 100 or so people including the celebs of George Steele, Captain Lou Albano, Missy Hyatt, Johnny Valiant, Davey O'Hannon, Terry Gunn, Manny Soto, Billy Caputo, Doink (Ray Apollo) and his lovely wife, and Bud Carson from Carson's Pro Wrestling World in Allentown, PA.  If I left out any celebs, don't shoot me, this brain is almost 58 years old..........

The silent auction was lovely and fans were very happy with the items they got.  Jimmy Valiant had given me some autographed shirts and ring wear which I donated and Vellano was keeping some for the Hall itself upstate.

A good time was had by all.  John Patozzi did make sure all the celebs in attendance received a nice certificate of appreciation since those people came of their own accord, no payday, no gimmick selling ........it's for a great cause and I give them a lot of credit myself...I know Missy, Albano, and Johnny Valiant could have had bookings that night as 2 out of the 3 came in my direction a few weeks ago but they declined as they had already committed to the Hall.

I can't wait until the May 24-25 induction in Amsterdam.  I don't know who the committee has selected to induct yet but I am sure it will be a special don't miss event.  You bet you booty, I'll be there.
Thanks - - Scott Epstein
