Randy Orton's downward spiral
April 12, 2006

Heading into WrestleMania last week, Randy Orton was on top of the world. The Legend Killer had earned a spot in the World Heavyweight Championship Match on the grandest stage of them all – an opportunity most Superstars only dream of. The next several days, however, were far from perfect for Orton.

Not only did the cocky youngster suffer the pinfall at the hands of Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania, but he was also pinned again by Mysterio just days later on SmackDown. To make matters even more humiliating, Randy Orton also learned that he was being suspended due to unprofessional conduct. Many believe that series of events can be categorized as Orton’s worst week of his young career.

Tuesday night at SmackDown from Green Bay, Randy Orton’s career unfortunately continued its downward spiral. Kurt Angle used his patented ankle lock to beat Orton in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament Tuesday night. After the match, The Wrestling Machine applied the hold several more times. As a result, Orton suffered a broken ankle.

At this time, little else is known about Orton’s injury. Be sure to check back here as more information becomes available.

ROH (Ring Of Honor - www.rohwrestling.com )

April 11th:  I never like to play favorites. When people ask me about my favorite shows and matches I never really name anything because I never like to put one thing above the other. Plus it depends on what kind of mood I'm in and my list of favorites always changes. I am about to break my rule.
The one week period of 3/25-4/1 marks the greatest shows in ROH history.
I thought 3/25 was better than Manhattan Mayhem. Some of you may disagree. That's your opinion and we all enjoy things differently, but with the two final tag matches and solid undercard I really dug this show.
3/30 was just as good if not better with a great finish on the Daniels vs. Joe match and two spectacular tags with Dragon Gate vs. ROH. Plus Whitmer vs. Jacobs is going to have people talking.
3/31 raised the bar even more. This is just a collection of everything in wrestling. You go from old school commissioners in Jim Cornette to the state-of-the-art Dragon Gate match to the new wave of women's wrestling to ladders and brawls in the crowd to a 56 minute classic world title main event to everything in between. Sure it was long, but so were the old school supercards and current day Dome shows and this is our version of that.
4/1 will probably be the consensus favorite as the best show although I might go with 3/31.
Bryan Danielson is now the best wrestler in the world. period. He is in total control out there. He is what ROH is about now and that's substance. The 3/31 match vs. Strong is like going on a journey. This match is not for everyone and not for people with short attention spans. However, if you are able to sit down without distractions, relax and just follow the wrestling you will be paid off with a match of the year candidate. The Lance Storm match was the best Storm match I've ever seen and I saw all of his ECW matches. He looked better than ever and obviously trained hard for this match. I take everything Lance has said about us as a huge compliment as he is as honest and straight forward a person that I have ever met and a true veteran.
The final three matches of 4/1 was the greatest second half in ROH history.
I have a million other thoughts on the raw footage, but it would take me all night to type them and I don't want to spoil anything for you. I will just say this. Everyone who participated on those shows from the crew to the wrestlers deserve all the credit in the world. It was really a special weekend. The crew treated all four shows like our Wrestlemania. I really haven't seen a locker room on such a mission since Barely Legal, except these guys did it for four straight cards. I know that is a bold statement, but I stand behind it and that is not a downgrade on ECW, but rather a compliment to the ROH locker room.
Please watch the whole Milestone Series in order as these shows are meant to be watched together and in order, especially the triple shot and two Chicago shows. The payoff is worth it.
I've also reconsidered the ROH chapters since the Milestone Series has turned out so well. There is a seperate post elsewhere about that and it is also a pinned topic in the reviews section.
Thanks to all the great fans in attendence for those four events. You really made them special.

April 11th:  As many of you know I like to break ROH's history up into chapter points. I feel this is especially important for new fans. Obviously the ROH shows are meant to be watched as a video series. However, with so many shows I understand that a new fan might have trouble starting with "The Era Of Honor Begins" and catching up. Therefore, if you are new to ROH I suggest you begin with one of the chapter starting points. Of course to get the most out of ROH it would be best to start with the first show. If you want to be current you might want to start with one of the recent chapter points.
I do feel that it is extremely important that you start with a chapter point rather than a random show in the middle of the chapter. You wouldn't want to see Kill Bill Vol. 2 without seeing Vol. 1 first. Anyway, here is how the chapters look now:
Chapter 1: 2/23/02 "Era Of Honor Begins" to 2/8/03 "First Anniversary Show"
Chapter 2: 3/15/03 "Expect The Unexpected" to 3/12/04 "At Our Best"
Chapter 3: 4/23/04 "Reborn: Stage One" to 12/26/04 "Final Battle 2004"
Chapter 4: 1/15/05 "It All Begins" to 6/12/05 "The Future Is Now"
Chapter 5: 6/18/05 "Death Before Dishonor III" to 8/12/05 "Redemption"
Chapter 6: 8/13/05 "Punk: The Final Chapter" to 2/11/06 "Unscripted II"
Chapter 7: 2/25/06 "Fourth Anniversary Show" to 4/22/06 100th Show
Chapter 8: 4/28/06 "Weekend Of Champions: Night One" to Yet To Be Determined
The only chapter point I had a hard time debating was Chapter 1 to Chapter 2 as Chapter 1 could end with either "Revenge On The Prophecy" or "First Anniversary Show." I recently decided that "Expect The Unexpected" makes a better Chapter 2 starting point than "First Anniversary Show" since it marked the beginning of heel Punk vs. Raven, Joe as #1 contender and about to win the belt as well as The Prophecy losing the Tag Titles. Back then I didn't really have chapter points in mind. The rest of the chapter points are clearly defined in my mind and the series was written and meant to be watched that way. Of course, unless you start at the birth of ROH you are going to miss some great stuff. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Updated On 4/12/06- A slight change has been made due to the success of the recent Milestone Series. I was always uncomfortable with "Night Of The Grudges II" being the Chapter Six starting point. "Redemption" is a clear end point for Chapter Five so that will be the new close to that chapter. "Punk: The Final Chapter" will now be the starting point of Chapter Six and "Unscripted II" will be the ending point so you know who begins and ends the chapter. The Milestone Series will now be its own chapter ending on 4/22. 4/28 will be the first show of Chapter Eight.

April 12th: The main event has been signed for 5/12 in Long Island. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson called the ROH offices and said that he wanted to be in the ring with NWA World Heavyweight Champion Christian Cage so he can make him tap just like he did to Lance Storm. ROH officials just got off the phone with Christian, who is more than happy to get in the ring with Danielson. It will be a dream partner match on 5/12 in Long Island as Danielson and the partner of his choice will take on Christian and the partner of his choice. It is unknown if these athletes will announce their partners before the show or if they will be surprises on 5/12. We'll have more in the upcoming weeks right here in the ROHwrestling.com Newswire.
April 12th: The first match has been signed for ROH's big return to Edison, NJ on 5/13. It will pit ROH Tag Team Champions Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe!!! If Aries & Strong are still champions and The Briscoes defeat AJ & Sydal on 4/22, the Tag Titles will be on the line in New Jersey. Either way this is going to be an intense match especially after what happened that last time in Edison when The Briscoes returned to ROH and attacked Aries & Strong twice. Good seats are still available at ROHwrestling.com, by calling 215-781-2500 and at Ticketmaster outlets.
April 12th: ROH Commissioner Jim Cornette will be at the 4/28 Dayton and 4/29 Cleveland events. Cornette is coming for a reason and we'll have more in the upcoming weeks. Cornette will be available for autographs on both nights.
April 12th: SHIMMER- WOMEN ATHLETES remains one of the hottest sellers at ROHwrestling.com. Vol. 2 is now available for immediate delivery featuring Daizee Haze vs. Sara Del Rey vs. Lacey vs. Mercedes Martinez in a Four Way Elimination Match, MsChif vs. Beth Pheonix, Allison Danger vs. Rain, Cheerleader Melissa & Tiana Ringer vs. Ariel & Shantelle Taylor, Krissy Vaine vs. Cindy Rogers and more!!! This is serious women's wrestling. If you liked Vol. 1 with the much talked about Sara Del Ray vs. Mercedes Martinez then make sure to check out Vol. 2.
April 12th: There is a lot of talk about who KENTA will face when he returns to ROH on 6/17 in NYC, 6/23 in Detroit and 6/24 in Chicago. KENTA made it clear he wants the ROH World Title when he grabbed the belt after the 3/25 tag match. We will have word from Bryan Danielson about this soon. Tags:
