Pro wrestling legend Hulk Hogan will climb into the ring Monday at Arco Arena for WWE.

Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea's pythons are as large and legendary as his career: more than a dozen championship belts between both wrestling federations, a short-lived presidential candidacy in 2000, being one of the most requested celebrities for the Make-a-Wish foundation, and starring roles in three of the worst 100 films as ranked by Internet Movie Database.

After decades in professional wresting, Hogan's next career move should be obvious: his own reality show, "Hogan Knows Best," scheduled to air at 10 p.m. Sundays on VH1 (rebroadcast on Mondays), beginning July 10.

Hogan also will be in Sacramento for World Wrestling Entertainment's "Supershow" at 5:30 p.m Monday at Arco Arena.

Q: So tell us how you got involved in reality TV?

A: Well, four years ago I had a choice to do a show with all four networks and was ready to get to make a wrestling comeback with a match against The Rock, and ("The Osbournes") was taking off. But it involved having 70 people in the house, camera crews, etc., so I wasn't interested.

Then my daughter got into the music business. We got beat up trying to find the yellow brick road for her, and after four years, I said to myself, my daughter needs to be on an even playing field to have a fair chance.

VH1 approached me about doing a reality show. I was the hook, but it was about my family, not just about me. I saw it as an opportunity for my daughter to get exposure.

Q: What will the Hogans have that the Osbournes or Hiltons don't?

A: We're going to be a refreshing break from the dysfunctional family. We're dysfunctional on a different level, on a positive note, in that we're relentless at getting what we want. My son is getting into the movies. My wife is very much the businesswoman. I'm 51 years old acting like I'm 18 trying to get back into my business. ... I will probably be involved in WWE until I'm 71 or something.

Q: Your career was made in a staged sporting competition. How do we know the drama on your reality show isn't all made up, like your feud with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper?

A: That feud wasn't made up; we really hated each other. But anyway, I think once people see that Hulk Hogan turns into Terry Hogan, that we have real problems: Our animals run away from the house, they poop on the carpet, I get yelled at by my wife like any other husband. ... When they realize the Hogans have a normal life, people are going to see we're the real deal.

Q: The show's press release says you are committed to protecting your kids from "sex, drugs and the other evils of modern life." Do the big pythons help with that?

A: Well, the wrestling business is probably the best vehicle for learning about life. You learn about characters, individuals, emotions. Believe me, I had a great education. I was 16 once, I was a great bluffer, I learned how to get into teenage guys' faces.

The first episode is my daughter's first date. I put a GPS tracking device in her truck and had a couple of my friends follow her to make sure no shenanigans were going on.

I hate to be so aggressive, but I just want to protect my family. Between people disappearing in Aruba and being stolen right from houses, and with 9/11 and all the terrorists and destruction, I refuse to let my children be victims, even to the point of being overprotective to a fault.

Q: If your daughter, Brooke, wanted to switch from singing to being a wrestler, would you approve?

A: I'd love it, I just wouldn't want her body to feel like mine is now. If my kids want to do it for four to six years, it's a great way to teach them about life, if their bodies hold up to it. But Brooke isn't into it. She stubs her toe and she cries for weeks.

Q: Being your daughter, though, could she beat up Lindsay Lohan?

A: I think she would reign supreme. At a Disney radio show, (Lohan) wouldn't even say hello to my daughter or me. There's a little bit of an edge there, so I think my daughter could kick her butt.

Q: You'll be in a city that has a muscleman actor for its governor, and Jessie "The Body" Ventura was Minnesota's governor. Will all this new publicity lead you to politics?

A: That fake 2000 publicity stunt was actually a real publicity situation that Ted Turner talked me into. It all spun from the whole Ventura thing, and Turner was like, 'You're a 100,000 times more popular than Ventura.' Turner was so crazy about it. I was actually going to (run), but when I saw that I needed to be re-educated, when Turner laid out this battle plan for me, I was scared to death; I didn't want to be a part of it. It sounded like a great idea at the time, but I didn't know then what it would take to get to the dance. No, I don't think I'll get involved in politics.
