In Funk's Corner
NWA-TNA 100 years of History
By Dory Funk Jr.

The biggest show this weekend is TNA's Against All Odds PPV on Sunday night headlined by Jeff Jarrett vs. Christian Cage for the NWA title.

There is a special scouting report in slide show form on Jeff Jarrett for his match with Christian Cage at http://www.dory-funk.com/.

It has been 100 days since Jeff Jarrett won the NWA World Championship. Jeff is the longest reigning current holder of a major world championship in America. My title run as NWA World Champion was for 1,502 days. How long can Jeff Jarrett Survive?

Can there be another long term champion such as myself holding the NWA World Championship for 4 1/2 years?

Remaining NWA World Champion long term will be a competitive road for Jeff Jarrett.

The wrestler who could overthrow Jeff Jarrett's title reign is Christian, who at "Final Resolution" gave the fans an exciting performance as a team player with Sting, earning a victory over the "King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett.

This time Christian will be going it alone in his quest for the most coveted title in professional wrestling, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

I first met Christian as his trainer at the WWF in 1998. He was in a quality class of students including future world champions, Rhino, Edge, Chris Daniels and Kurt Angle. Competition in this class was tough and the respect high among the athletes. Christian was at the top of the class.

I also know Jeff Jarrett well through a long enduring friendship with his father, Jerry Jarrett and having wrestled Jeff one time for the NWA World Championship here in Ocala, Florida. It is not an easy road following in the footsteps of a very famous Father, wrestler and wrestling promoter.

The doors can be opened, but you have to be damned good to walk through. Jeff has accomplished the good walk through the doors to success and now stands as King of the Mountain, the NWA World Champion as the line of succession enters it's second millennium.

As NWA World Champion, Jeff has earned all the credibility that lies in the heritage of his predecessors, Ric Flair, Harley Race, Jack Brisco, Lou Thesz, Pat O'Connor, Gene Kiniski, Whipper Billy Watson, Terry Funk and I am proud to say myself included with the record for Jeff to beat for the length of time wearing the belt around his waist.

At the press conference held on TNA's Impact television show in regard to the NWA World Championship Match between Jeff Jarrett and Christian Cage, I was asked by the Moderator, Mike Tenay to pick a winner?

As I see it these are the considerations. Jeff Jarrett is King of the Mountain. He is at the top. Jeff faces all of the pressures of a Major Superstar in meeting his obligations to his public and professional life. These can be demanding.

Christian has the heart of a lion and is fighting his way to the top right now. Wrestling for the NWA World Championship could become the biggest event in the life of Christian Cage.

As NWA World Champion, Jeff Jarrett has a challenge laid before him of a hundred years of history. Jeff Jarrett is at the top of his game and the only way to go is down. As seen on Impact, my pick to win the NWA World Championship match at Against All Odds is Christian Cage.

I have former students involved in two other matches at Against All Odds. In the X Division, former student, Christopher Daniels vs Samoa Joe vs A. J. Styles and another student of the "Dory Funk Method," Rhino will be facing Abyss. Team 3D will face Team Canada, the James Gang will face LAX and I hope the winner of the tournament kicks ass on America's Most Wanted.

I also predict Against All Odds will be the most exciting night in the history of TNA  with more to come.
