Inspired by WWE, Starbucks Sends Coffee to Troops
When Crystal White, who works at Starbucks in Waterville, Maine, finished watching World Wrestling Entertainment’s Holiday Tribute to the Troops on USA Network in December 2005, she was moved to do something for our troops in Afghanistan.  “I noted in one of the interviews that a soldier said coffee was being brewed 24 hours a day and that the soldiers loved their coffee.  I thought that might be something I could help with,” she said.  Crystal contacted Gary Davis, WWE’s Vice President, Corporate Communications, with an idea to send Starbucks coffee to the troops.  Gary worked with Armed Forces Entertainment to identify how and where to ship the coffee, as Crystal began working with Starbucks corporate offices and her fellow employees to organize the donation effort.  By mid-April, everything was in place, and employees and customers began purchasing pounds of coffee to send to the troops.  Last week, Crystal and her fellow employees, including Tony Cortigene, a Senior Airman in the Air National Guard, shipped 106 pounds of Starbuck’s best with a small coffee grinder to Afghanistan.  In two weeks, the troops there will be in coffee heaven.  “I was so proud of the employees and their efforts to get the customers involved.  I was overwhelmed with how generous our customers were,” said Crystal, whose five-year old, Hunter, is named after WWE Superstar Triple H.  Added Tony,  “As a member of the Air National Guard and an employee of Starbucks, I thank our customers and employees who contributed to this effort. I'd also like to thank the WWE for their support of our troops."
