Investigation of finances of events at Ogdensburg Dome

Last Update: 1/24/2007 10:31:00 AM

State police will be asked to investigate allegations of financial problems surrounding ticket sales at two WWE events held in Ogdensburg last year.

According to the Massena Courier-Observer this morning, St. Lawrence County District Attorney Nicole Duvé confirmed that at the request of Ogdensburg Police chief Andrew Wells, she intends to have State police investigate allegations surrounding the finances of two WWE events held at the Edgar Allen Newell Memorial Dome in Ogdensburg on January 7th and June 19th, as well as other events.

The events, sponsored by the Ogdensburg Free Academy Student Council, were intended as fundraisers to raise money for a $40,000 electronic scrolling marquee on the outside of the dome.

According to the paper, an audit was conducted of student council financial activities at the Dome by Hooper and Van House CPA of Ogdensburg, with the results turned over to school Superintendent Maurice Barry. School officials declined to comment on the investigation.

Student council advisor Kresten Ericksen, who is also the director of the Dome and an Ogdensburg City Councilor, resigned his post as advisor earlier this month. He has declined to comment if his resignation is tied to the investigation.

WWE Media Relations spokesman Gary Davis confirmed Monday that the WWE has asked for authorities to investigate the finances surrounding the events and that they have turned over “all the appropriate paperwork”.

Duvé was asked to bring in State police because as a  member of Ogdensburg City Council, Ericksen has a hand in the funding and budget of the police department and could be considered a conflict of interest if they were to investigate.
