Last week saw NECW officials scramble with more last minute changes to the field for NECW's 3rd annual IRON 8 Championship Tournament, taking place THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, June 23 at the National Guard Armory, 1000 Hancock Street in Quincy, MA.

Two weeks ago, "The Anarchist" Doug Williams who was previously announced for the tournament was forced to withdraw due to a jury duty obligation in England that will not end in time for him to make the event.

Last week, Osamu Nishimura informed us that he is needed in Japan for a press conference announcing a new Japanese promotion that will feature him as the top star.  This press conference was moved up from another date to the date of the IRON 8, forcing Nishimura to withdraw.

NECW is pleased to announce the addition of "The All Around Best" Xavier to the IRON 8 field.  Xavier is a former Ring of Honor Heavyweight Champion and had an intense feud with fellow IRON 8 competitor "Hurricane" John Walters.  Xavier also competed in this year's ECWA Super 8. He brings a wealth of experience against top competitors and is eager to add the accolade of NECW IRON 8 Champion to his resume.
After losing the NECW Heavyweight Title to D. C. Dillinger on June 10th in Framingham, MA; "Hurricane" John Walters was expectedly irate.  He tracked down NECW President, Sheldon Goldberg and requested that he be granted entry to the 2006 IRON 8.  Goldberg and the Championship Committee have agreed that Walters deserves entrance making the former NECW Heavyweight and ROH Pure Wrestling Champion a favorite to become the next IRON 8 Champion.

Finally, with the last minute cancellation of Osamu Nishimura leaving one open spot in the field of Eight, the Championship Committee looked for a way to qualify one final competitor.  That "wild card" spot in the tournament will be decided in a 4-Man One-Fall Match at the beginning of the June 23rd IRON 8 Event.  Already confirmed for the match is former PWF Heavyweight Champion "The East Coast Intensity" Jose Perez. The other three names will be announced early in the week.

The following participants will comprise the 2006 IRON 8 Championship Tournament:

Antonio "The Promise" Thomas:  Former WWE star and former NECW Tag Team Champion
The R.I.O.T., Kellan Thomas:  #1 Contender to the PWF Mayhem Junior Heavyweight Championship

Jason Blade:  Former PWF Mayhem Heavyweight Champion

D.C. Dillinger, The new NECW Heavyweight Champion and one half of Sabotage, 3 time NECW Tag Team Champion.

Eddie Edwards of Sabotage, former 3 time NECW Tag Team Champion and star for Japan's Pro Wrestling NOAH.
Xavier:  Former ROH Heavyweight Champion

"Hurricane" John Walters:  former NECW Heavyweight Champion, former ROH Pure Wrestling Champion.

and the winner of a 4 Man, One Fall "Wild Card Match" to be held at the beginning of the night.

This year's IRON 8 will differ from previous years in that the entire tournament will take place in a single night.  The eight contestants will face each other in four singles matches, with the winners going on to the final, which is a four way, 45 minute Ironman match.  The man who scores the most pinfalls or submissions in that 45 minute match will be the 3rd ever, IRON 8 Champion.

NECW officials also announced a special bonus match for the IRON 8 card.  It will be a special 6 person mixed tag team "Champion's Challenge" as PWF Mayhem Heavyweight Champion, "The Human Nightmare" Evan Siks, NECW Television Champion, "Big Guns" Frankie Arion and NECW Women's Champion, Nikki Roxx join forces to battle the PWF Mayhem Tag Team Champions, The Canadian Superstars (J-Busta & Dave Cole, managed by Brian Cairo) and their partner, the PWF Mayhem Women's Champion, Ariel.

Tickets for NECW's 3rd Annual IRON 8 Championship are on sale now at all Strawberries locations, K.C.'s Sports Cards in Quincy Center and online at www.NECWwrestling.com.
