| Had Kurt Angle’s 1995 summer tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers been a success, he might well be working this week as an ESPN analyst ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl XLII match pitting his old team against the Arizona Cardinals. Instead, the Three Rivers native tumbled into wrestling, won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and is now embarking - at the ripe old age of 40 - on a prospective movie career. Angle remains an active member of the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) circuit, with current fights encompassing London (January 24th), Orlando (February 8th) and Tokyo (February 15th). But last fall, Angle took time out to shoot the indie crime drama End Game, in which he co-stars with 2003 Survivor champ Jenna Morasca as maniacal serial killer Brad Mayfield. Up next is a spring shoot for the action movie Rescue from Hell, which will afford Angle his first lead role. ![]() Though it’s not quite on the level of 52-year-old Mickey Rourke’s unlikely comeback in The Wrestler, some mid-career movie success for Angle would be a nice counterpunch to several low points last fall. In September, he was found not guilty of drunk driving, while in October, the dissolution of his ten-year marriage to fellow wrestler Karen Angle was finalized. (The have a pair of K-named kids, Kyra and Kody.) Angle had to endure hours in the make-up chair for some of his bad guy’s alter egos in End Game, which was written, directed and edited by Bruce Koehler, a by-day TV commercials creator and owner of Retro Media. For those who can’t wait for the former Olympian’s dramatic debut, there’s always Kurt Angle: Champion, a new two-disc DVD set that includes documentary profile extras. | ||||
