……..

My apologies for being overdue.  Computer issues really do suck.

Friday night, New York Sports Works held another shin dig, as they went "old school", back in their home store area for the latest signing with WWE Raw Diva Torrie Wilson and WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley as the star attractions of the evening.

Ok.  I have to get this out, and I am going to use capital letters, but that, my friends, is not going to even be enough justice to illustrate what I am trying to say.

BOBBY LASHLEY IS FRRRRRRRRRRRRREAKING HUGE.

He came in, black collar shirt, shades, looking like a businessman ready to go out for a meeting, but this businessman is built like a brick wall.  He was HUMONGOUS.  And not FAT by any stretch of the imagination.  That is left for me, example, I got told by my family that a kid told his father as I left Nathan's today, "Daddy, that man is BIG!", pointing at me.  That's not the type of opinions that were being praised on the US champion last night in Massapequa.  People, as *** as my witness, television does not do this man justice for the shape he is in at this time and place.

We met Torrie a while back, and truth be told, I was interested solely in meeting the US champ, a new face, the future of the business, so alas, I didn't pay as much attention to Torrie as I probably should have.  My wife noted that she looked pretty buff, but that's probably because she's been training like a mad person to compete in the women's division now that she's a Raw diva again.  She came in in near camouflage, and she almost looked invisible next to the US Champ.

Don't get me wrong, ladies and gentlemen, Torrie Wilson is a dish, a beautiful woman, and a pro's pro, in every sense of the word, but the fact remains, Lashley is the new kid on the block, Torrie has been around for some time, and the talk of the line where I was standing was of the champ.

I was equipped with US title in hand, ready to have the first signature christened on it since John Cena signed it for the 2nd time almost three or four months ago.  The US title belt is probably the most fashionable belt in all of pro wrestling.  It's design, it's allure, it just looks elegant.  And damn, it looks good in person.  I didn't notice it when I went up there, but out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Lashley had the belt with him.  A rare treat for champions to come to promotional events with their bling bling.  I wish he would've displayed it more.

Even my kids were surprised by the size of this guy.  And my big one, Nicholas, doesn't get impressed by much, was even surprised at how big this guy was.

I'm sorry, I am being repetitive, but this guy was that impressive just from his appearance alone.

Now for where the thing goes south, in a big hurry.

We were third in line, and when we approached, as luck would have it with me lately, I was blocked by people, some hangers on, and my family, so it took me a good minute or two to reach Torrie and Bobby, and finally, when I did, with a little prompting from the store owner, I proceeded to stutter and stumble on my tongue like a little five year old school girl.

I have not been known to be speechless around many people, but this guy, I know it sounds bad, I was speechless when I hit the table and this guy was looking directly at me.

He took it in stride, shook my hand, smiled, and continued with his business.  I was so embarassed with how I behaved and acted toward Lashley, I didn't even approach Torrie, which is stupid and ridiculous on my part, because she looked hot as a pistol that night.

Anyway, I have been touting the virtues of the 30 plus superstars I have met in the past, and I have been touting the virtues of some of the young guns that Smackdown and ECW are bringing in to the fold, ala Ken Kennedy, ala CM Punk, but let me say this ladies and gentlemen.  For someone as young as this man, to be already a champion, and be able to conduct himself as positively as he did, especially in the dark times of the Van Dam/Sabu situation, WWE's future is looking brighter than some of us may give credit.  There are some damn good new faces on the horizon.  I was fortunate to meet one last night.  I suggest, when he comes to your town, you do the same.

In closing, as always, special thanks to the crew at New York Sports Works, as the game of location roulette continues, they did this one back at the main store location for the first time in nearly 6 to 8 months.  It was a little tight in comparison to the other locales used by the store, but I am sure that the crew will have tinkered with the layout for the next time.

And boy, what a next time.

Sandman and Sabu, yes, Sabu, August 13th from 1 to 3pm.  Also, John Cena & Ashley come to Massaepqua for the makeup from a month ago on August 18th from 6 to 8pm.  Check out the info on those signings at their website by checking out www.Newyorksportsworksinc.com
