Mickie Knuckles Injured at IWA Mid South Tonight

I was at the IWA Mid South wrestling show tonight at the Hartman Recreation center in Joliet IL.  It was my first IWA show in awhile.  Tickets were $15 and I was glad I attended as the wrestling talent was superb.

I enjoyed almost every match and saw some real potential in several guys there.  WCW's Daffney was also there and wrestled a match.

The main event of the evening was scheduled to be a half hour iron woman match between Mickie Knuckles and Sara Del Rey.  The match started out really good and stiff.  The action spilled out of the ring and back towards the announcer stage.  At around the the 12 minute mark,  Mickie Knuckles climbed up on the stage and then to the top of a small wall and made a spectacular dive at Sara Del Rey.  Mickie hit Sara but totally twisted her knee around in the process.  The match and the show ended immediately.  I phoned 911 for an ambulance.  Mickie was in an extreme amount of pain.  She stated that her leg felt like jelly and was unable to move it or straighten it.  Mickie claimed to have pain from her hip all the way down to her knee.  The promoter, former ECW superstar, Ian Rotten was extremely upset and emotional because he had trained Mickie for the past several years and she had just recently appeared on TNA television.  The other IWA wrestlers surrounded Mickie and appeared to be stunned and concerned.  Daffney, apparently a close friend of Mickies, was instrumental in sitting with Mickie and helping keep her calm throughout the ordeal.  An ambulance arrived at the building within five minutes of the call.  Three paramedics worked on getting Mickie's leg straightened out for the next hour.  Mickie was then transported to a local hospital via ambulance.  She left the Hartman Recreation Center with a round of applause from her peers.  Sara Del Rio appeared to be very upset despite people reassuring her that there was nothing that she could have done to prevent the injury.

I wish Mickie a speedy recovery as she has worked very hard in a sport that she loves to make it this far only to be sidelined by a serious injury.

Given the height of the wall, I sensed a spectacular spot was about to happen so I shot a small video clip and ended up capturing the entire injury in the process.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd5fm7EzJaw   Check it out.

It looks like she was 9 feet of the ground total...

Apparently, Mickie told Sara she was going to do a cross body and she ended up doing a "modified" Lou Thez Press. Clean break, no compound...but OUCH!

Mickie will be undergoing surgery today to repair a broken bone in her right leg.
