MEMORIES OF SHERRI MARTEL
Hey Georgie,
I hope all is well with you. If you are the one posting the memoirs
of Sherri, please post mine if it is not too late.
It is sad what happened.
From Jasmin St. Clair
I barely read the wrestling sheets anymore, especially after that
tasteless, desperate & classless stunt the WWE did on Monday Night Raw
with Vince "being blown up in a car".
Today, I was in complete shock to have read that my favorite woman
wrestler of all time was dead.
She is one of the reasons I pursued wrestling.  I remember meeting her
in 2000 at the Milwaukee Metalfest where there was wrestling as well.  I
had a mixed tag match with her & Doink the Clown.  It was dream for me
to work with her.  Sheri was a talented, charismatic & down to earth
human being.  It was a pleasure working with her.
She has opened a lot of doors to women in wrestling & was by far the
best manager and female wrestler of all time.
I am so disgusted with the wwe these days. those asses do a fake death
& now there is a real death of someone who was respected & loved by many.

R.I.P Sherri

From Jim Ross's Blog:      I received the unfortunate news that WWE Hall of Famer Sensational Sherri Martel died Friday morning, of yet to be determined causes at the age of 49. Sherri was one of the most talented and colorful performers I ever worked with or knew in this business. She was not only an excellent wrestler but evolved into one of the best “manager/valets” ever in the business. Her physicality and toughness may never be matched especially for her gender. Seeing Sherri at the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony last year was a real treat and she had a blast at the weekend’s activities especially visiting with old friends and fans. Sherri’s place in the WWE Hall of Fame is well earned and her exploits in the ring and at ringside will long be remembered. Sherri’s work helped make Shawn Michaels, among others, an even bigger superstar in the WWE.

Sherri could out drink, out cuss, and out party most men, and I would venture to say in a fist fight, she could whip more wrestlers than one could ever imagine.

The business has lost one of its most colorful characters who came up the hard way, paid her dues, and survived during the territory days to make it to the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania and the WWE Hall of Fame.

Rest in peace Sherri, and take it easy on the men folk in heaven.      Jim Ross

Georgie:  When I visited with Sherri at last year's WrestleMania in Chicago she was so thrilled to be there. Totally full of life and walking around with a big smile on her face. She was a very big hit at the Hall of Fame deal with her over the top acceptance speech, lots of laughing with her old school promo's she was cutting.  Tons of charisma that girl had, very rare for women.  In person I must say she looked older than the then 48. Pain will do that to a person Georrgie, I know all to well. I really liked her, the little time we spent on the road together, so sad.

Tom Prichard remembers Sherri
Tom said it best,  "if she was your friend, you had a friend forever".

RIP SHERRI MARTEL
I want to send out my deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Sherri Martel. I just saw her a little over a month ago and she looked great. Which is why this came as a BIG shock to me when I got the news yesterday. She was a great person and an awesome performer who gave her all. She would take falls that some of the guys wouldn't even take. The one that sticks out the most is when she took a huge bump off the top of the WWF's old monstrous blue cage. Man, she was tough!! Tough but every bit a women whose work ethic commanded respect from all who knew her and all who paid to see her. So young and so sad. Godspeed Sherri!! You ARE missed!!    from  Blue Meanie

Georgie,

I have been a close friend of Sherri Martel for many years since the mid eighty's she stayed at my homes in Yonkers, NY and in Denver, CO . I had the pleasure of being on the road with her and refereeing many of her matches. She also was the one who convinced Ray Stevens to give me a chance to referee for the AWA. I was very saddened to hear of Sherri's passing , it hit me different than it does when someone else in our business is taken from us to soon. In this case Sherri was someone that I had a personal bond with.

I held my first WrestleReunion in Tampa, Fl Jan 2005 one of the matches was an eight lady tag team match that had Wendi Richter on one side she did it only as a personal favor to Rob Russen and Sherri Martel on the other side. I had talked to Sherri a great deal but she finally said, that she would do it as a favor to me. I was very blessed at WrestleReunion to be able to do so many things that others couldn't get done. I am very glad that the two of us had the influence with these ladies we had both known for many years to make this match happy. I especially wanted to give old friends(like Peggy Lee and Bambi to work with Wendi and Sheri again) and give young girls like Krissy Vaine and Amber O'Neal a chance to work with the legends. Thank you Sherri for doing me that special favor. I will always thank of you with a smile.

It is with extreme sadness that I have to write this article. Due to the fact that so many of you have called me and asked me to write a statement, I feel like I should.

Sherri Martel has passed away, but the memories of Sherri Martel will live on. I was fortunate enough to have been her agent for a couple of years, but also a very good friend. I remember Sherri for so many things, however, it was her heart that will always stick out to me.

Back in the mid 90's, Sherri and I worked together on many events....some wrestling related, some non wrestling related. She was always a hard worker, gave it her all, and did the above and beyond type things that most people don't do today. She was tough in the ring, but gentle on the outside. Sherri took a very strong liking to my grandparents...especially, my grandfather, who was sick and dying at the time. She went to visit him on a few occasions, and took pictures with him, kissed him, and brought a lot of joy into his life. She laughed at his jokes, she took pride in his old Italian ways, and called him "Daddy". She ate my grandmothers homemade food, and even did a photo shoot with my Uncle.

Sherri and I did numerous road trips together. A business woman she was...wanting everything "just so" financially, but it was her love of the sport that is most noted. She literally would give you everything...even if it meant her sacrificing her comfort level for the fans. She was "over the top", "larger than life", and always ready to "be a lady". Even when circumstances weren't good on the indy scene, she would rise above and GIVE to the paying public. She was a trooper, and honestly, did not have to do what she did on many occasions as she was  LEGEND in the sport, and should of been treated that way at all times. Yet, when it was her moment to shine...she did!

I remember being with her the night Louie Spicolli died (Rad Radford). His death took us by surprise (as well as, Marty Jannetty who we were with too). She shed some tears, and became the counselor for us the remainder of the night. I'll never forget going to the grocery store with her and Marty one night. It was after midnight and we were in some 24 hour food market looking to make a very late dinner to cheer us all up. Sherri bought what we needed and she made an awesome chicken dish for all of us...however, she didn't lose her sense of humor. When I was looking for Marty and Sherri in the store at one point, I find Marty holding a stick of pepperoni and Sherri holding bags of  cheese-doodles...well, what was to follow was a spur of the moment game of baseball with me playing catcher. Sherri would "pitch" the bags over to me, as MJ would swing and break the bags watching the cheese doodles fly all over the place. You see, even then she was trying to lighten the mood.

Another time was when Sherri slept over my house (which was often). This particular time, she told me to invite some of my friends over so we can eat popcorn and watch movies....well, it was her call, so that's what we did. I had a couple of my friends over, and we sat up on the sofa in the TV room just eating, playing board games, and watching movies. She never showed like she was above it all, or a "diva". She called my parents "Sir and Ma'am" (which they hated), and loved on my sister as well.

There are far too many stories I can tell you, but one thing she always taught me...and I have it written down on a letter she wrote me..."Have faith in me. Always remember that. Don't you ever change".  Well, with that...Sherri and I did plenty of adventures together....did a lot of charity events, did appearances at Gold's Gym, and did a couple of TV shows as well. Once that camera was on...she always was a pro. She always gave the proper credit to those that aided her, and became what her moniker was..."Sensational"!!!

It was about 2 years ago when I was with her last, and we spent a lot of time discussing the good ole days, the highs, lows, and even the scary times. We jokingly talked about some awkward moments we had, and then lavished in what we had as friends. She had given me one of her outfits years ago as a token of her appreciation, and always reminded me to have "trust".

One thing that I cannot forget to mention is the fact that Sherri Martel was as tough as nails. Her epic battles with not only the women, but the men, will always be remembered. Guys like: Ted DiBiase, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Brutus Beefcake, Shawn Michaels, and a host of others have always commented on how great she was. One thing for sure...Sherri can hang with the guys. Ask Tom Pritchard. Ask Buddy Rose. Ask Harlem Heat. She knew her place in wrestling, the boys loved her and respected her, and she was a "National Treasure" in our industry. Ted DiBiase, Gangrel, and Brutus Beefcake were just some of the men who I have received calls from today who have expressed there grief. I will never forget how much she meant to me personally, and what she did to further my education and knowledge in this sport.

Thanks to my "Sister"....My prayers and thoughts go out to Robert and family. Thank you.

Georgie,
I am very upset over learning about the passing of Sensational Sherri Martel today. I have been a huge fan ever since I first saw her many, many years ago. I was fortunate enough to meet her several times and she was always very sweet and took time to talk, take photos, etc. Over time I began to correspond with her via email and the letters were as kind as she was in person. I even rec'd a Happy Thanksgiving email one year. One of my favorite memories of Sherri is from a shoot interview where she mentioned how the Macho Man used to drive her nuts with all the costumes because she would have to go out and buy dresses that matched what he wore each night and it was costing her alot of money. The way she told the story is priceless. It's ironic that after Vince makes a mockery of death in the wrestling business, a true legend in every sense of the word passes away.  Very sad news indeed.    Mike

I AM IN SHOCK
I am so sorry to hear the passing of another wrestling personality.  I came home from a night with my family to discover that Sherri Martel has passed away. She was one of those people that if you met her,you are touched forever.  I had the good fortune of meeting her at a WCW event a few years ago.

The many accomplishments that she did achieve in professional wrestling are numerous. She has been involved in the three main markets of the 80's (WCW,NWA,WWE.AWA) as well as many
independent shows recently. She will always be an icon in my heart and many of the fans that watched her perform, valet, and manage.

I wish to extend my condolences and sympathy to her Family, friends, and fans.We will never have another Sherri Martel and the sports entertainment business was better because of her.  We will miss you, Sherri.

Hi Georgie-
I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Sherri's passing today.  I went online and just stood there in shock reading the news.  She was such a great person and always super nice to everyone and loved the business so much.  I had talked to you about stuff over the years about her like finding out if she was doing Shane's Hardcore Homecoming, updates on her book and you even tipped me off to her doing her appearance on SD with Kurt Angle.  I have met her numerous times over the years since the summer of 1990 and she was an absolute doll, taking the time to look thru my scrapbooks on her and signing them with personal messages.  I also have tons of pics with her and of her.  I just saw her in Carteret, NJ and gave her pics she wanted that I took of her and Rockin Robin since they hadn't seen each other in years.

If you can send me or post an address to where to send condolences to the family I'd appreaciate it as it's the least I can do for all the year's of entertainment and kindness she gave me.

Sherri was a true icon in wrestling and will be missed by all of her fans especially me-

Do you want to know how special Sensational Sherri was to me?  I remember we had plans one New Year's Eve to get together with our friend Frank Patz from Triple A.  I got one of those terrible winter colds, and couldn't go out.  Sherri and Frank came to my home with a bottle of Champagne to celebrate, even though I was so sick.  That is a true friend, indeed.
Sherri, my love, you will be missed sorely.  But you are now with a great bunch of people, to clown around with.  Love ya Girl !!  Will miss you terribly.  (Including when your birds were talking to me on the phone)
