USA Network offers 'antidote' to Xmas

Reinforcing USA Network's recent re-branding as 'the network of characters', channel president Bonnie Hammer has announced an original gangster-themed comedy, Three Wise Guys, as part of its upcoming Christmas fare. "Three Wise Guys is a truly fresh antidote to typical Yuletide fare,” said Hammer.

Slated to premiere on November 20th at 21.00, Three Wise Guys, a two-hour telefilm from Lions Gate Television, stars Tom Arnold (Austin Powers), Judd Nelson (Suddenly Susan), Katey Sagal (8 Simple Rules), Nick Turturro (NYPD Blue), Eddie McClintock (Friends), Jodi Lyn O'Keefe (She's All That), Arye Gross (Minority Report) and the WWE Hall of Fame’s Rowdy Roddy Piper.

The holiday comedy has Arnold playing a dodgy casino owner who hires three gun-toting gangsters, played by Nelson, Turturro and McClintock, to kill his accountant and locate his missing partner in crime. Along the way, the trio crosses paths with an expectant mother stranded in the desert and later learns she's involved in the shenanigans.

Produced by Vesuvius Productions in association with Lions Gate Television, Three Wise Guys is exec produced by Angela Mancuso (The Last Ride, Spartacus) and produced by Michele Greco (Spartacus, Helen of Troy). Robert Iscove (Cinderella, She's All That) directs from a teleplay written by Lucky Gold (Stealing Christmas, Coyote Waits) and inspired by the story by Damon Runyon.

"Working with Angela Mancuso and USA Network on this project has been a tremendous collaboration," said Kevin Beggs, president of programming and production, Lions Gate Television, "and we believe this fractured Christmas fairy tale will be a stand-out among the holiday movies this season."

The film DOOM is due to be released on October 21st in the US. The film stars WWE wrestling star turned actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Sarge, and there are a handful of other actors you may recognize from recent films. New Zealander Karl Urban (The Bourne Supremacy, Chronicles of Riddick, Lord of the Rings) plays the lead character of John Grimm, Bond-totty Rosamund Pike plays "Samantha", and North London's own Dexter Fletcher (Lock Stock, Band of Brother, Deadwood, Layer Cake) will play "Pinky".
