The weather outside was frightening with severe thunderstorms around Northern and Central New Jersey, and even a tornado watch for the western part of the state, but even Mother Nature was no match for the fury and power demonstrated at the Belleville Knights of Columbus Hall on Friday night, August 17th as National Wrestling Superstars returned to this quaint Essex County hall.

The opening contest saw Dan Rageous (for wrestler formerly known as Dirtbag Dan) team up with J.D. Smoothie (the wrestler with an ego bigger than his size) take on The Mic's favorite wrestler today Mikey Pacifica and Lil Mikey Cannazano...formerly known as Little Romeo. For those who don't know, Romeo's last appearance in an NWS ring was almost 3 years ago when he and partner Chris Sandel put out an open challenge to anyone in the wrestling business, claiming they were the greatest. Well, Danny Demanto and Bison Bravado were in the building that night and accepted the challenge. With Sandel not wanting to tag in, Romeo took the beating of his life and was taken out of the ring by ambulance. After aging and bulking up, it was time for his return.

The match was totally out of control with wrestlers fighting inside and outside the ring. After 10 minutes of action, Rageous and Pacifica were fighting outside the ring and Lil Mikey went for a splash on Smoothie when Danny Demanto hit the ring and caused Mikey to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle. From there it was an easy 1-2-3 for Smoothie as he and Rageous got the victory. Lil Mikey told Demanto "go ahead, laugh, this is not 3 years ago and I am not afraid of you. Better watch your back"..

Next was another tag match featuring the tag champions Mr. Motion Shane Taylor and Nicky Oceans. also known as the Psychadellic Sissies (aka Studs) take on the Camp IWF team of Pastor George and Dan Marques. Commissioner Gino Moore told Taylor that "he's not your tag team partner" (referring to Oceans), but Taylor said "wait...if the Freebirds can do it, so can we. Nobody will know which two of the "Studs" they will be facing, which means we're in for a long title reign".

When the action got started, Pastor George and Dan Marques seemed to have things under control, even causing Taylor and Oceans to wrestle against each other, but once they spoke, things turned around and it was Total Studs for the rest of the match with Oceans getting the pin on Pastor George.

The third bout of the night was for the WSU Women's title featuring champion Alicia taking on Alexa Thatcher. Alicia was first out and screamed to the fans to "shut up, they're taping my match for history" (referring to The Mic and Sean Hanson taping and commenting on the match for DVD sales). Once Alexa came to the ring, it was all action as both ladies wrestled hot and heavy for over 10 minutes before Alicia, using the ropes to score the pin, was caught by referee Quick Count Dillon and while arguing with him, Thatcher came up behind and scored the pin. Alicia reminded the promoters that if she ever lost (not that she ever thought she would), she would be entitled to an automatic rematch. The match was signed for Saturday's NWS event in Shark River where Alicia promised "I'm taking my belt back and you'll never get another shot".

The next match saw the return of Jay Santana who was returning from an injury sustained in the ring. Maybe he should have thought better as his opponent outweighed him by nearly 300 pounds in the likes of Saddam Insane. Insane was accompanied to ringside by Danny Demanto and Kevin Matthews and the three of them spent nearly 20 minutes antagonizing the fans at ringside (the fans kept yelling "you got fired" to Matthews who said "I didn't get fired, I was released"). Santana to his credit, managed to keep Insane on his guard and at times looked to have the match won. After nearly 7 minutes, Jay went to the top rope and hit a frog splash on Insane and went for the pin, As the referee hit the 2 count, Demanto and Matthews entered the ring and it was a 3 on 1 before Tito Santana came into the ring and made the save.  Promoters were quick to set up a main event pitting Demanto and Insane against Jay Santana and WWE legend Tito Santana.

After a 20 minute intermission, fans were treated to another return to NWS rings when former NWS Heavyweight champion, Vicious Vinny returned to action, challenging Indian Warrior Draven to a match for the NWS New Jersey Heavyweight Title. Draven, trying to make a name for himself saw this as an opportunity to show promoters that he belonged at the top and went after Vinny with a vengeance. Vinny, to his credit, even though he is half the wrestler he was when he was champion (literally after losing almost 200 pounds), fought back and after nearly 12 minutes of action, "hulked up" and scored the pin, winning the title. He promised to be a fighting champion and would defend the title anywhere, anytime (note to Vinny, be careful what you say as that is considered a verbal contract and will be enforced).

The main event saw the return of Demanto and Insane (accompanied by Kevin Matthews) taking on Tito and Jay Santana. Jay seemed to take quite a beating and when Tito tried to come into the ring, referee Kenny Edwards kept pushing him back, which allowed many three on one beatings to take place. Finally Tito made the tag and was beating up on both Insane and Demanto when Matthews caught Tito by the foot. This allowed Danny Demanto to climb the top rope and go for the splash, when out of the back came Lil Mikey (aka Little Romeo) who pushed Demanto off the ropes and Tito scored the pinfall.

With Demanto and Mikey both interfering in the other's matches, it should be an interesting event next time NWS returns to Belleville (which by the way is Friday, November 30).

Next NWS event is on Saturday at the Shark River Hills Fire Company, 200 Brighton Avenue in Neptune Twp with Tito Santana, Nicky Oceans, Mikey Pacifica, Gavin Quest and more. Tickets are $17 adults; $15 children and seniors and are available by calling 732-888-1704
