New Japan Pro Wrestling’s history with the junior heavyweight division is legendary. It has produced some of the greatest talent the wrestling industry has ever seen – Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask, Ultimo Dragon, Prince Devitt, Kushida – and this Friday we spotlight two of the very best currently in this sport.

Dragon Lee took Mexico by storm and became a multi time champion in CMLL. Bringing his talents to the U.S. and Japan, he also brings excitement when he competes. The quickness and the agility are there. So when he walked into a sold-out Madison Square Garden and walked out as the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight champion, it wasn’t a surprise but accepting that his time has come. In his first title defense, he must square off with the former champion, a very determined Taiji Ishimori.

What many viewed as a passing of the torch, Ishimori defeated Kushida at this year’s Wrestle Kingdom for the title and the claim that he is the top dog in the Jr. Heavyweight Division. His 5’ 4” stature is deceiving. The power this competitor has is world-class. Along with his speed and Bullet Club mentality, Dragon Lee’s days as champion could come to a screeching halt.

The future is now. Dragon Lee takes on Taiji Ishimori. Regardless of who wins, loses, or draws, bring an inhaler because this one will be nonstop action from bell to bell. Get involved THIS FRIDAY 8/7c
