Pro wrestler Jim "Sandman" Fullington's shocking, glass-throwing melee at a Yonkers restaurant might have been avoided if the eatery owner had heeded pleas to cut the booze-loving grappler off at the bar, friends of the wrestling bad boy said yesterday.

La Lanterna restaurant owner Ralph "TJ" Tarone made the situation worse, the pals said, by "antagonizing" Fullington and shattering a beer bottle in the wrestler's face.

The claims came as Fullington, 45, yesterday made a brief appearance in Yonkers Criminal Court on a slew of charges stemming from the fracas, which erupted Sunday night during a 75th-birthday bash for wrestling icon Capt. Lou Albano.

Fullington's hearing was postponed until today after prosecutors said they were waiting to get the mat man's rap sheet to determine how much bail to ask for.

The wrestler - who also allegedly fought with the cops who eventually arrested him - is charged with felony assault and criminal mischief, as well as reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.

Meanwhile, Fullington's camp may file a complaint with cops against Tarone, Captain Lou's niece, Kami Albano, told The Post.

"The fight was both their faults, and TJ should have been arrested, too, " she said. The owner, she said, "ignored" her requests to stem the tide of alcohol at the bash.

"Around 4:30, I went to him and asked him to please stop serving drinks to Sandman, as well as a few other guys who'd had a lot," said Albano.

"I also went to the bartender and asked that anyone who was drinking hard liquor be cut off," she said. "They ignored our wishes."

At around 8 p.m., Tarone "got up in Sandman's face," said a witness.

Another party guest said a "loud and belligerent" Fullington flew into a blind rage and went after Tarone.

Yesterday, Fullington's lawyer, John Lewis, said his client was "doing fine - about the same as anyone would be in this stressful situation."

Public records show the former Extreme Championship Wrestling star has done jail time, and has DUI and reckless-driving charges in his home state of Pennsylvania. He also has faced traffic charges in California.

Tarone recently had a pistol permit revoked by Westchester authorities, records show. He did not respond to messages left for him, and La Lanterna workers declined comment.

HULK HOGAN - BOLLEA TO SPEND 18TH BIRTHDAY IN ADULT PRISON WING

HULK HOGAN's son NICK BOLLEA is set to spend the rest of his prison sentence in an adult facility - and will be transferred on his 18th birthday, according to reports.
The former wrestler's son is currently serving an eight-month sentence at Florida's Pinellas County Jail, after pleading no contest to a felony of reckless driving following a horrific car crash in Clearwater, Florida - which has left his friend John Graziano brain damaged.
The teenager initially spent his first few weeks in prison in solitary confinement, but was later housed with other juveniles.
But now, the teenager faces spending the rest of his sentence incarcerated with adults - and is reportedly set to move to a dormitory style cell on Sunday (27Jun08) - the day he turns 18.
Bollea will spend his time with fellow inmates who are either awaiting sentencing or who have been charged with misdemeanours and small felonies, reports TMZ.com.
Last month (Jun08), Hogan spoke out over his concern for his son's state of mind since being imprisoned, claiming the teen had been "unravelling" during his spell behind bars.
It is thought Bollea's legal team will contest the move. He is set for release in October (08). 07/23/2008 12:14:07 PM

Grapplers' goal is to make shows PG

WWE moves to become more family friendly

As part of World Wrestling Entertainment's moves to become more family friendly, company plans to produce its three weekly TV series in a way that lands them a PG rating.

Currently, "Monday Night Raw" on USA Network and Sci Fi's "ECW" are rated TV-14, while the CW's "Friday Night Smackdown" already is TV-PG.

"Smackdown" moves to MyNetworkTV in October.

WWE stressed that its shows wouldn't become tamer, as a result of the change. They'd just focus more on its over-the-top characters and storylines, rather than attention-grabbing stunts that may have been considered too outrageous in the past.

Move is the latest step for the company to appeal to younger auds and families.

WWE recently launched a kids mag and website targeting the same demo with original content. Its film division, WWE Studios, also will steer away from R-rated content.

"It's the continuing evolution of the company to create content for our growing audience of younger viewers," a rep said.
