GEORGIA WRESTLING NEWS, NOTES & HISTORY 10/28/07
BY RICH TATE
NEWS

Richard Kamchen has posted an article at Slam! Wrestling about Austin Creed at http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2007/10/23/4600159.html.

As a reminder, there will be no card in Villa Rica tonight.  Southern Extreme Championship Wrestling will return on November 4.

Georgia Wrestling Promotions results from Waleska, GA, on October 27: Kid Ego, Jr., over Chris Lightning; Big Head Hansen & the Hellbillies (Timbo Bryant & Jessco Blue) over Jay Clinton, Talent & Money (J.T. Talent & Andrew Pendleton III); D.L. Norris over Danny Horne; Shadow Jackson and Nemesis were both counted out; Shaun Tempers (w/ the Rev and Kayla Kaos) over Slim J to retain the GWP Southern Heavyweight Title in a casket match; and the Regular Guys (Tyler Smith & Bobby Hill) over the Hollywood Brunettes (Andrew Alexander & Kyle Matthews) (w/ Jeff G. Bailey) in a barbed wire cage match to retain the GWP Southern Tag Team Title.  It was reported that 55 were in attendance for this card, held outdoors in cold weather.  Chris Ganz was credited as being a referee for this card.  Tempers and the Rev were both seen screaming at a weeping Kaos on the way to the dressing room, as she nearly cost Tempers the match with Slim J.  Nemesis was a mystery opponent chosen by Aaron Voight for the match against Jackson.  Nemesis was later seen trying to run over Jackson with his car in the parking lot.

Great Championship Wrestling results from Phenix City, AL, on October 27: Thug Rowe over David Young: the Hooligans (Mason & Devin Cutter) over Michael Cook & "That 80s Guy"; in another GCW Tag Team Title Tournament match, Hot Like Lava (Shaun Banks & Cru Jones) (w/ Quentin Michaels) over the NOW (Vik Dalishus & Hale Collins); Scotty Beach over Reuben James (w/ Randall Johnson); Tex Monroe (w/ Frankie Valentine) over Randall Johnson (w/ Reuben James); Orion Bishop (w/ Wicked Nemesis) over GCW Interstate Heavyweight Champion A.J. Steele by countout in a title match – Steele retains title; and Johnny Swinger over Sonny Siaki in a casket match.  It was reported that 100 were in attendance for this card.  The RJ Connection (Randall Johnson & Reuben James) attacked Frankie Valentine & Tex Monroe in the parking lot before the show, leaving the latter team unable to appear in the tournament match.  They were replaced by the NOW against Hot Like Lava.

NOTES

Georgia Wrestling History would like to wish a happy birthday today to Les Thatcher (67), MVP (34), and Christy Hemme (27).

HISTORY

1941: Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Abe Simon announced the cancellation of a card to take place the following day at the Warren Arena in Atlanta because Lou Thesz, who was scheduled to wrestle Rudy Strongberg in the main event, had been injured in an automobile accident.

1949: Don McIntyre defeated Bill Cazzell to retain the Southern Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.  McIntyre had been the reigning Southern Heavyweight Champion since he defeated the Black Menace on September 23, 1949, in Atlanta.

1955: Bill ‘Red’ McIntyre defeated Freddie Blassie to win the Southern Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.  Blassie had been the reigning Southern Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Don McIntyre on September 16, 1955, in Atlanta. Bobby Wallace managed Roy Shire.

1963: Lou Thesz defeated Tarzan Tyler to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Title at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Steve Manderson.  Thesz had been the reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Buddy Rogers on January 24, 1963, in Toronto, ON.

1966: A match Southern Tag Team Champions Enrique & Ramon Torres and the Red Raiders was ruled a no contest in a title bout at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.  The Raiders were initially declared the winners, but the decision was nixed when it was discovered they had used a cloth with a substance in an attempt to subdue Enrique.  It was later reported to have been chloroform, after an empty bottle of carbon tetrachloride was found in the dressing room.  The Raiders were reportedly fined $100 each for their actions.  The Torres’ had been the reigning champions since they defeated Louie Tillet & Butcher Vachon on October 21, 1966, in Atlanta.

1969: Paul DeMarco (managed by Homer O’Dell) defeated Dick Steinborn to retain the Georgia Heavyweight Title at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.  De Marco had been the reigning Georgia Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Joe Scarpa on October 3, 1969, in Atlanta.

1975: Mr. Wrestling #2 defeated Luke Graham to retain the Georgia Heavyweight Title at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.  Wrestling #2 had been the reigning champion since he defeated Nikolai Volkoff (managed by Gary Hart) on October 3, 1975, in Atlanta.

1977: Dusty Rhodes & Bill Watts defeated World Tag Team Champions Ole & Gene Anderson by disqualification in a title match at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.  The Andersons had been the reigning champions since they defeated Rhodes & Dick Slater on October 14, 1977, in Atlanta.  Some sources show the Andersons regaining the titles on September 30, 1977, but those records are incorrect.  The rematch on September 30 actually had Rhodes & Slater defeating the Andersons.

1978: Georgia Heavyweight Champion Mr. Wrestling #2 and Rick Martel wrestled to a draw in a title match at that day’s taping for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.  Wrestling #2 had been the reigning champion since he defeated Stan Hansen in the final round of a tournament on October 16, 1978, in Atlanta.  That tournament also included Mr. Saito, Raymond Rougeau, the Masked Superstar, and Tommy Rich.

1990: Sting defeated the Black Scorpion in the main event at the Columbus Civic Center for World Championship Wrestling.

2003: Doug & Danny Basham defeated Scotty Too Hotty & Rikishi to retain the WWE World Tag Team Title at Philips Arena in Atlanta.

2005: Bruce Biggins defeated Damien Synn to retain the UCW Heavyweight Title in a match at the Lindale Church of God for Ultimate Christian Wrestling.
