Notes on a historic OVW - WWE broadcast
by Eric Hall

I want to start off this review by expressing my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Eddie Guerrero. Many people live their lives way too fast, but Eddie Guerrero spent his life entertaining millions. Whether it be in Mexico, where he revolutionized heel tag team wrestling with Art Baar; in ECW, where he got his big break from Paul Heyman; in WCW, where he received his first huge national exposure; or in WWE, where he became a worldwide superstar; Eddie Guerrero was a man blessed with the knowledge people liked his stuff, found him entertaining, and cared about him when he came out on stage.

Well, this week's OVW TV aired on Saturday Night, and featured both the OVW Heavyweight and OVW Television Titles changing hands. An outstanding show once again.

Dean Hill and Al Snow opened the show and hyped Cappotelli vs Jeter 2 out of 3 Falls tonight as well as Doane-Albright V for the OVW TV Title.

OVW Southern Tag Team Champions Chet The Jet Jablonski and Seth Skyfire defeated Mike Mondo and Da Beast.  This was a good tag team title match, a good way to start off the TV program. Beast looked like a giant in the ring with Chet (maybe 6 feet tall), Seth (5'6'' at best), and Mondo (5'7''). Beast must be a legit 6'6'' or 6'7''. Chet and Seth knocked Beast out of the ring. Mondo knocked Seth out of the ring. Mondo set Chet up for a superplex. Chet knocked Mondo backwards off the top rope. Seth ran up the turnbuckles from the outside, and Chet assisted Seth's supersonic legdrop of the top rope onto Mondo for the pin.

We saw highlights of Doane pinning Bobby Lashley last week.

OVW TV Champion Ken Doane confronted Brent Albright in the locker room prior to their match. Doane told Albright, "this is your last shot as long as I'm the champion." Albright told Doane, "you can Get Out, or Tap Out!"  Doane threw a punch, but Albright applied the Crowbar and Doane was screaming for help. A pack of people pulled Albright off of Doane. All of a sudden, stupid moron Robbie Dawber, who is doing an annoying interviewer gimmick (last week, he got clobbered by Bobby Lashley), ran in and said, "Brent Albright, you just hurt the arm of the TV Champion!" and then Albright slapped the taste out of Dawber's mouth.

CM Punk won the OVW TV Title from Ken Doane, and he owes it all to Brent Albright. This may be Paul Heyman's best OVW angle to date. Even with all the Jeter-Cappotelli angles, this one may top them all. Doane went out to the ring and cut an amazing promo saying he's not the next HBK, the next HHH, the next Austin, but the "1st Ken Doane." He heeled on the ref for never making a big decision in his life, but "being Ken Doane, every decision I make carries the entire future of the industry on my shoulders." Albright came out, and Doane jumped him, and tried a big maneuver on the announcer desk, but Albright turned it into a Crowbar. Punk came out and nailed Albright with a chair. Doane was thanking Punk and said "I owe you one," and Punk shoved Doane into the ringpost. Doane asked the ref for help, and the ref said "I'll show you an important decision" and declared it a title match. Punk tried to win with Albright's hold, the Crowbar, but Doane fought his way out. They ended up bumping the ref, Albright hit the ring with a chair, Punk ducked, and Albright hit Doane with the chair. This caused Punk to win. The story is that Punk won the title, but all thanks to Albright, which obviously doesn't sit well with Albright. This was one of the best angles I've ever seen live.

Maria from Monday Night Raw tried to interview Punk in the locker room, and he said "Ken Doane, I can't wait to face you when you're prepared for me, because we both know you got Punked!" This got a huge pop. Then Punk said, "Albright, I owe it all to you. I just wish you were here so I could shake your hand!" Great forwarding of Punk's personality. Heyman has really brought Punk along in a short amount of time. This interview was the perfect companion to the angle that played out over the TV Title.

Matt Cappotelli finally defeated Johnny Jeter in a 2 out of 3 Falls match for the OVW Heavyweight Title in the second Battle of the Thrillseekers.  Jeter won the first fall with a rollup and holding the tights. Cappotelli scored the second fall when he covered Jeter after Jeter missed a top rope spinning leg lariat. In the third fall, Jeter survived the superkick, but went to the top rope,  and was caught flush in the face with a superkick in mid air for the pin.
An exhausted Cappotelli was thrown up on everyone's shoulders in the post-match celebration.

OVW is now offering the entire 2005 collection of TV shows on DVD. The January-June shows are now being offered for the first time. These are the last six months of the Cornette era in OVW. The July DVD (first two weeks was written by Cornette, Heyman took over week 3), August, September, October, are all available now. The first Jeter-Cappotelli match concludes the October DVD. Information on these DVD's is available at www.ovwrestling.com.

OVW returns to the New Davis Arena (4400 Sheperdsville Rd, Louisville Kentucky) this Wednesday Night November 16 with an 8pm belltime. Directions are available on the website. Cappotelli is now champion. Jeter is obviously still in the picture. What will happen with CM Punk, Ken Doane, and Brent Albright? Who knows what Heyman has in store for us now?
