NWS Internet News Update For Week Of 8/16

The Nigerian Nightmares Are More Than Sincere And Smooth, A Long-Time NWS Legend Is Retired, And More

Hello NWS fans! This is your weekly update on what's happened, what is happening now, and what is going to happen soon in the nation's leading family-friendly pro wrestling promotion, National Wrestling Superstars.

Upcoming Shows This Weekend

This Friday night August 20th, NWS returns to the Belleville, NJ Knights of Columbus Hall (98 Bridge Street, at Belleville Avenue, minutes from the Parkway) with a 7:45pm bell time.
NWS has staged some of the biggest matches in the tri-state area in this cozy hall, and this Friday night will be no exception, as the fans will be treated to not just one, but *TWO* big main event matches.
In one main event match, two former ECW hardcore icons will battle it out in a "Loser Gets Put Through A Table" Match, as John "Balls" Mahoney, fresh off his TNA Wrestling appearance, will bring those same "cajones" to the ring as he battles fellow ECW alumnus The Equalizer. Will Balls end up being put through a table yet again, or will Equalizer's hopes and dreams be literally reduced to splinters?
The other of those two matches takes "big" to the extreme, as the 900+ pound undefeated Nigerian Nightmares (Mafu & Snafu) and their manager-turned-wrestler Voodoo Princess Sheeta compete in a six-person inter-gender tag-team match against the veteran team of luchador Manuel Manny Moore & "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie and their partner WSU Spirit Champion Brittney Savage. This will definitely be a match for the record books.
Top contender tag-teams will battle, both looking to be the next team to wear the gold, as former NWS Tag-Team Champions Team Supreme ("The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans & Corvis Fear) reunite to take on NWS' newest tag-team sensation, The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D'Andrea). NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc and NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion Jumping Joey Janela will also be in action, along with the obnixious Boris Nobika and his equalkly obnoxious North Korean manager Comrade Chow, Mighty Mikey Pacifica, The Soul Assassin, Paco Libro, and much more.
Tickets are only $19 for adults and $17 for kids and seniors.

This Saturday night August 21st, NWS returns to Union, NJ with an outdoor "Wrestling Stars Under The Stars" show at the Union Knights Of Columbus Showgrounds (1034 Jeanette Avenue, just off Morris Avenue, minutes from the Parkway and Route 22.
That night will be "Steel Cage Mania", with not just one but *TWO* huge main event matches taking place within the confines of a fifteen-foot-high steel cage.
In one main event match, ECW alums John "Balls" Mahoney and The Equalizer will pick up their battle right where they left off the previous night, this time within the confines of the steel. Who will survive this ultimate confrontation, if anyone?
And the other main event in the steel cage will be punctuated by high-flying, as three of the northeast's top cruiserweights will battle in and around the walls of steel, as current NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janela will defend the title in a triple-threat match against two former champions, both of whom are hungry to regain the title, "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smooth and Mighty Mikey Pacifica.
And there's even more. The long-vacant NWS Tag-Team Titles will finally have new owners at the end of that night, as two teams will square off for the long-coveted titles. In one corner will be former NWS Tag-Team Champions Team Supreme ("The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans & Corvis Fear), reuniting after nearly two years to try and once again reign as champions. But their road to fame will not be easy, as in the opposite corner will be NWS' newest tag-team sensation, originally from the Union area but now making their home in Seaside Heights, NJ, none other than The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D'Andrea).
There will also be an eight-man tag-team explosion, as NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc leads his team of "Cannonball" Jeff Guerrero & Tuff Tony Scorace & Boris Nobika (with his obnoxious manager, North Korea's Comrade Chow) against the foursome of Mister Nick Gregory & "The Happy Hillbilly" Justin Blackwell & Steve "Little Gipper" Gipke & Snake-Eyez. Plus there will be an exciting girls bout between rising stars Divina Fly and Niya, and appearances by Nikko The Monkey Man, "Too Hot" Steve Scott, "The White Urkel" B. Fehrm, and much more.
Tickets are only $19 for adults and $17 for kids.

Tickets for all upcoming shows are available by calling the NWS box office at (732) 888-1704. All major charge cards are accepted, and group rates are available for groups of ten or more. Remaining seats, if any, will go on sale at the door one hour before bell time.

Results From Last Weekend

National Wrestling Superstars returned to the Dunellen, NJ Knights of Columbus Hall on Friday night August 13th for a Friday The Thirteenth tradition, "Bad Luck Brawl". The fans did not seem to be superstitious, as a fairly good-sized Friday night crowd filled the hall
  • The Jersey Shore Jocks (Chris D'Andrea & Mike Dennis) defeated "Too Hot" Steve Scott & J.T. Highlander with a double pin from the Jersey Jocks.
  • Dazzling Divine defeated Shock by pinfall.
  • Jack Spade & his partner Mexico's Paco Libro defeated Indian Chief Draven & partner the NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumpin Joey Janela when Spade pinned Janela for the win.
  • NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc (with ring adviser J.D. Smoothie and valet/manager Brittney Savage, now sporting brown hair) defeated former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot when the referee turned and saw The Patriot with a chain (that later after reviewing the video saw that JD Smoothie tried using on him).
  • The team of Corvis Fear & Skitzo (with J.D. Smoothie and Brittney Savage) defeated Cannonball & Neko The Monkey Man. Cannonball and Neko had the upper hand, but the referee's attention was distracted and Brittney hit Neko with a wet floor sign and Corvis got the pin.
  • Chikara Wrestling stars Colony Ant vs. Frightmare ended in a 10 minute draw. The crowd wanted 5 more minutes. Both participants showed good sportsmanship by shaking hands after the bout.
  • In the six-person inter-gender tag-team Main Event, The Nigerian Nightmares (Ma-Fu & Sna-Fu) & Voodoo Princess Sheeta defeated former WWE star Sal Sincere & "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie & Brittney Savage. The Nightmares won after squashing Brittney Savage and Voodoo Princess Sheeta did a flip from the top rope for the pin.
National Wrestling Superstars concluded its second consecutive double-shot weekend in August debut'ing at a new Jersey Shore venue, the Island Heights, NJ Volunteer Fire Company Hall, on Saturday night August 14th. And once agauin, while other promotions struggle to fill their seats, the Houdinis of the Northeast Corridor pulled yet another winning rabbit out of their hats with another great Saturday night draw (prompting the Fire Company to invite NWS back soon).
  • Before the opening bout, The Nigerian Nightmares came wandering out of a side door and over to ringside. It was apparent that they were hungry after their long journey to the shore. Security rushed in to protect the fans from being eaten, and quickly supplied them with food, and the Nightmares eventually headed back to the locker room, but not before attacking a member of the security staff.
  • In the opening contest, The Soul Assassin defeated Neko The Monkey Man. The audience didn't quite know what to make of the unpredictable styles of both wrestlers. Towards the end, it appeared the Neko had the bout won, after putting down The Assassin with a flying splash, a backflip, and (of course) a Monkey Flip. But Neko went to the well once to often and attempted a second Monkey Flip, only to have The Assassin push out of it and then hold down Neko, with his feet on the ropes for extra leverage, for the 1-2-3.
  • In a Three-on-Two Handicap Tag-Team Match, the team of "The Canadian Hockey Goon" Rocco Dorsey & NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc & The Preacher (with J.D. Smoothie & Brittney Savage) defeated the team of former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot & Ray-Ray Marz (with guest manager Crazy Rob Rumble). Rob Rumble complained about Smoothie and Savage being at ringside, and Commissioner Moore ejected them because it turned out they did not have a manager's license. The Preacher was impressive in his NWS debut, but The Patriot and Marz kept the match mostly even. Towards the end, Patriot was chasing Havoc around the ring with a steel chair (looking for revenge from the previous night), and while the referee was distracted by that, Smoothie and Savage snuck back to ringside, and Smoothie clotheslined Marz across the top rope, right into a DDT by Rocco, who held down Marz as the referee turned around and made the three-count. Commissioner Moore couldn't overturn the decision, but to reward Ray-Ray Marz' effort in the ring, he announced that Marz would get a title shot against Corey Havoc when NWS returns to Ocean County in October.
  • In a non-title match, NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janela (with manager Rocco Dorsey & Brittney Savage, who both had licenses this time) defeated Slayer (with his returning long-time manager Father Oz). These two high-flying veterans of NWS kept the fans on the edge of their seats, and towards the end it looked like Slayer's unpredictable style might upset the champion. Slayer hit his flying bulldog finisher on Janela and looked to have the winning three-count, but Rocco pulled the referee out of the ring before three. While the referee was yelling at Rocco, Brittney snuck in and leveled Slayer with a "Wet Floor" sign and pulled Janela on top of him. The referee returned to the ring, saw Janela covering Slayer, and made the three-count for Janela. Slayer's troubles did not end there, as Father Oz was leveled with the "Wet Floor" sign by Rocco, and he and Slayer were attacked by Rocco's entire goon squad which included J.D. Smoothie, Corey Havoc, T.N.T, and The Soul Assassin. Then The Nigerian Nightmares Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu came out to the ring, and it looked as if Slayer and Oz were about to be decimated. But The Nightmares stunned the crowd by instead clearing the ring of all the attackers, crushing Soul Assassin with a Nigerian Roll when he didn''t leave the ring fast enough, to the delight of the crowd.
  • In an Ocean County Strap Match, with the added stipulation that the loser must retire forever from pro wrestling, Hasheem "The Atomic Dog" Ali defeated T.N.T. T.N.T came out to the ring wearing his old orange and black, hoping it would bring him good luck as he won his second NWS Heavyweight Title years before in a Strap Match in the same outfit. The two big men commenced a hard-hitting brawl all over the ring and outside it, both feeling multiple bruises and welts from the leather strap. T.N.T made several attempts to touch all four corners, but each time was foiled by Ali. In the end, Ali escaped a Sleeper Hold attempt by T.N.T and locked one on T.N.T instead, weakening T.N.T to the point where he was able to touch all four corners and was declared the winner. Ali took the microphone andpaid respects to his twelve-year opponent and stable-mate T.N.T as the wrestlers came out to show their respect and T.N.T was wished well by the wrestlers and fans.
  • In the six-person inter-gender tag-team Main Event, The Nigerian Nightmares (Ma-Fu & Sna-Fu) & Voodoo Princess Sheeta (with guest manager Rob Rumble) defeated former WWE star Sal Sincere & "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie & Brittney Savage (with manager Rocco Dorsey). After Sal and Commissioner Moore traded insults, with Sal going so far as to try and attack the Commissioner with a broom, the match began. As in the previous night, The Nightmares used their 900+ pounds to initially overpower Sal and Smoothie, and Brittney had no better luck against Sheeta's unpredictable fighting style. But Smoothie used his drop-kick skills to clip the massive knee of Sna-Fu, and he and Sal worked over the fallen Sna-Fu for several minutes, with Smoothie showing enough pluck to try and slap a Camel Clutch on Sna-Fu (but his back was too massive to bend). Eventually Sna-Fu overpowered his opponents and tagged in Ma-Fu who cleaned house on all three opponents. In the end, Sal and Smoothie ducked away from an omcoming Nigerian Sandwich, leaving Brittney to be crushed in it full force, followed by a facebuster from Sheeta for the three-count. As the fans cheered The Nightmares on, Sheeta and the Nightmares began to dance in the ring, and went so far as to lead the fans in a Conga-Line around the ring (this has to be seen to be believed, so watch for the pictures in a few days) as the show ended.

An NWS Legend Retires After A Twelve-Year Career

He was a fixture with NWS for twelve years, a two-time NWS Heavyweight Champion... he was cheered... he was boo'ed... but he was always respected. But even the best wrestlers can't last forever, and last Saturday night August 14th, the mighty T.N.T wrestled his last match in NWS.
Last May in Brick, T.N.T and his Baghdad Bullies partner Hasheem Ali teamed against Reality Check members Kevin Matthews & Nicky Oceans. A miscue between T.N.T and Ali caused Ali to get pinned and lose the match. As Ali and T.N.T blamed each other for the loss, Ali decided he had enough of being T.N.T's partner, and decided there was only one way for them to settle their differences... in a Strap Match.
Last Saturday night in Island Heights, NJ, that match took place. Before the match, Ali and T.N.T added the stipulation that the loser must retire from wrestling forever. Ali was sporting a new look as "The Atomic Dog" (a tribute to his idol the late WWE superstar Junk Yard Dog), ready to move on with his career with no intention of retiring any time soon.

T.N.T had competed in a Strap Match when he won the NWS Heavyweight Title for the second time. So, hoping for a repeat of that good luck,

T.N.T shed his Baghdad Bullies outfit and wore the same orange and black colors he wore for that match, and came out to his old theme of AC/DC's "TNT".

As these two men knew each other well, the match was a back-and-forth brawl. With everything on the line, both men fought with the hearts of a champion. But at the end of the night, Ali stood triumphant in the ring, and T.N.T had fought his last battle in NWS.
Despite the bitter feelings which had produced this match, Ali could not ignore the respect he had for T.N.T in their long association as both rivals and partners, and paid tribute to T.N.T after the match. The entire NWS locker room, many of whom had been young kids watching T.N.T as fans before becoming wrestlers themselves, came to ringside to give "props" to the big man.

NWS thanks T.N.T for the twelve wonderful years he gave to the company and the fans, and wishes him well in his retirement.
