NWS Results From Edison

Sheet writers can say all they want, calling National Wrestling Superstars “carny”, “home of the ticket sellers” and a few other choice names that are unfittable for print, but when nearly 700 fans come to see National Wrestling Superstars events for the second weekend in a row, it’s time for those who like to do the name calling to actually get out from behind their computers, put down their favorite beverages and get themselves to a National Wrestling Superstars event “live” to see what all the excitement is about.

Friday in Middletown, the NWS packed the building with nearly 300 fans and last night in Edison at the St. Matthews School Gym, almost 400 fans were jammed to the rafters to see the most exciting wrestling event where the legends of yesteryear and the stars of tomorrow put on another fantastic effort.

Match #1

The show opened up with a ten man battle royal. The prize up for grabs was a title shot at the NWS Cruiserweight champion the next time NWS returns to Edison (Friday night, May 2nd). Current champion JD Smooth demanded that he be included in the match and said “when I win…and I will…none of you will get a shot”.  As the ring announcer introduced all of the participants, the referees made sure that they all stayed under control until the bell rang. Once it rang, it was total chaos with each wrestler trying to stay in the ring long enough to make sure they received the coveted title shot. One by one, wrestlers were thrown over the top rope until it came down to Mikey Pacifica and the Jersey Cowboy. Pacifica had Cowboy on the ropes and ran across the ring to get the momentum to toss him over, but the Cowboy pulled down the top rope and Pacifica went over the top. Smooth, who was eliminated 3rd, stayed at ringside and had stern words for the Jersey Cowboy, telling him “I’ll see you on May 2nd”.

Prior to the start of the next match, Danny Demanto, Equalizer, Kevin Sullivan and local manager Debonair Dave Andrews made their way to ringside to do a “shoot” on the Giant Silva, Goal-Duh, George the Animal Steele and especially St. Matthews mascot Matty the Leprechaun. Their tirade lasted almost 5 minutes inciting the already hot crowd before they walked off into the locker room area.

Match #2

Golden Lynx (from Chikara Wrestling), Dan Rageous former NWS cruiserweight champion Mikey Pacifica and everybody’s favorite whipping boy, Jumpin Joey Janella opened the show with a Fatal Four Way where Janella was eliminated at the 4 minute mark Rageous shortly thereafter and Lynx and Pacifica battled in and out of the ring for another 6 minutes before Lynx pinned Pacifica with the most spectacular swanton seen in NWS rings..

Match #3

Tag Team Match

Corey Havoc and JD Smooth (with Dave Andrews) defeated the Jersey Cowboy and Nate Mustang when Havoc pinned Mustang. The Cowboy and Mustang had much of the match in control, but thanks to the help of Andrews, it quickly became a 3 on 2 with Smooth and Havoc taking turns distracting the referee to allow Andrews to do his “dirty work”, having the fans yell at the referee and many offering their glasses.

Match #4

Non-Title Match for the Jersey Shore Title

Nicky Oceans (with Dave Andrews, Equalizer and Danny Demanto) taking on Rhett Titus. Oceans claimed that he had already beaten Titus on a number of occasions and had defended his title already within the past 30 days and invoked his option to make this a non-title match. Commissioner Gino Moore agreed, however, added a stipulation of his own…if Titus won, he could pick when and where he would have his next title match and there was nothing Oceans could do about it.  While Oceans tried to tell everyone “no”, Moore told him to “shut up and wrestle…ring the bell”. This match was another in a series of classic battles between Oceans and Titus with each trying to score a victory over the other. Even with Demanto, Equalizer and Andrews at ringside, Titus was able to stay in the match (that lasted over 13 minutes) and give Oceans a run for his money. At the 183 minute mark, Demanto grabbed Titus while Equalizer distracted the referee and Andrews went to hit Rhett with a sign, however, Titus ducked and hit Demanto. Oceans, seeing what happened, when to check on Demanto when Titus rolled him up for the pin. Oceans, Demanto and Equalizer were irate over Andrews costly mistake and it became a 3 on 1 beat down before school mascot Matty the Leprechaun came out to help and was viciously attacked before Goal-Duh, Giant Silva, George the Animal Steele and Matty the Leprechaun raced toward the ring to try to help Andrews. Demanto yanked the head off the Leprechaun, showing the crowd that it was St. Matt’s own Darren Venture. Commissioner Gino Moore, never one to miss up an opportunity (among other things) made the main event pitting the NWS Odd-It-Tees against Equalizer and Demanto.

After a great intermission where fans are able to interact with the wrestlers on the card (something Dapper Johnny says “you can’t do at the Garden, you can’t do at the Spectrum, you can’t do at the Izod Center, but you can do here at all NWS shows”), it was time for the 2nd half of the show.

Match #5

Prince I Am Smarta ( the smartest man in wrestling) took on Luchador Antonio Malave. Both Kevin Sullivan and George Steele were sitting at opposite ends of the stage to watch these young warriors battle it out. The Prince, who bears a striking resemblance to “Kazakhstan's most famous journalist” (Borat) was incensed that the disrespect shown to him prior to the start of the match. To further aggravate the situation, Malave started clapping and cheering “Borat” “Borat” and the crowd, which had dwindled down to about 350 after intermission, clapped and followed the chants. Borat (oops, Smarta), left the ring telling fans he was done when Malave followed him and threw him into the ring. The two put on quite a battle, each trying to score the win. At one point, Malave had the Prince on the ropes and went for the reverse 619 (which had the crowd on their feet cheering) but Smarta moved telling the fans “I’m too smart to fall for that”. After another couple of minutes, Malave did hit the 619 and appeared to have the match one. As he whipped Smarta into the corner, the Prince moved and caught Malave with a pin using the ropes for leverage. Both wrestlers received a thunderous applause for the match which lasted almost 13 minutes.

Match #6

Giant Silva and Goal-Duh (with George The Animal Steele and Matty the Leprechaun) def Danny Demanto and Equalizer (with Kevin Sullivan). As soon as Demanto and Equalizer entered the ring, Goal-Duh started making motions that his opponents were chicken and the sound man started playing the Chicken Dance song. Demanto grabbed the mic and said “we are not chicken”. There was a fan in the front row really into the song and was dancing the entire time the song played. Finally, after the song was over, the match started. Equalizer and Demanto were beating Goal-Duh. Every time Giant Silva tried to get into the match, the referee pushed him back (a large task indeed for referee Sgt. Jimmy Storm). The NWS Odd-It-Tees then gained control of the match before Kevin Sullivan and George Steele got involved outside the ring, which brought the team of Demanto and Equalizer back in control. The end saw Silva choke slam Equalizer for the pin. But it wasn’t over there. Demanto stayed in the ring and was yelling “we didn’t lose” when Matty the Leprechaun reappeared out of nowhere into the ring and kept tapping Demanto in the back. Demanto ignored the school mascot thinking it was Darren Venture again when also out of nowhere appeared, up onto the ring apron, Darren Venture. Demanto, in the best Abbott and Costello tradition went into a full fledged “well if you’re over here, then whose inside the Leprechaun outfit?”. As he turned toward the Leprechaun, the big heavy head came off and former alley and now foe, Debonair Dave Andrews popped Demanto over his head with the mascot head. As Demanto went down, Venture came flying over the ropes landing a huge elbow on the downed Demanto as all was well in Mudville tonight.

Since both shows done around this time of year are traditionally called NWS’ Super Brawl Bowl, going back to the 1990’s, this one was especially as ring announcer Dapper Johnny Falco, on both Friday and Saturday nights, included a “Lets Go Giants” to start the show. Falco, a life long Giants fan, reached late Sunday, said the only thing sweeter knowing that the Giants beat the Patriots on Sunday was that Ricky O drew only 20 people to his “spectacular return” in Lodi on Saturday night. As Falco was heard saying, Lodi, being only a little stone throw away from the palatial Otazu estate, Ricky O, as always, couldn’t promote a show if it was in his living room. Go Giants Go!

NWS will be at Bloomfield High School this Saturday with WWE legend style event featuring Jimmy Snuka, Sal Sincere, Lou Albano and more. Ringside seats are totally sold out. Only grandstand remain. For tickets call 732-888-1704.
