National Wrestling Superstars Results From Manasquan, NJ, Saturday, July 23

If Jersey shore wrestling fans were to name last night’s National Wrestling Superstars event after a song, it would have to be “Oh What A Night”, only instead of late December 1963, it was late July 23, 2005, with surprises and twists/turns during every match, which is why when NWS comes to your area, it is “the” show to see.

The opening contest was the return to NWS rings of Mr. Motion Shane Taylor and Corrupted Youth, managed by Sports Agent Ryan Maher, as these two returning titans teamed together to try to wrest the tag team titles away from Los Diablos Locos Fierce Fuego and Antonio Malave.  The Sports Agent told the fans that he has managed heavyweight champions, junior heavyweight champions and even Jersey Shore champions for NWS, but never the tag team champions and he was counting on Youth and Motion to bring it to him.  Meanwhile, Los Diablos are totally confused as to what Maher was saying (being from Mexico and Puerto Rico, their English isn’t the greatest) and kept saying “what”, which in turn had the crowd yelling “what” every time the Sports Agent tried to speak.  Once the action got underway, Maher and Mr. Motion decided to let Corrupted Youth do all the work and took a seat in the back row of the building to watch Youth get destroyed by the champions.  They sent Youth from corner to corner and at one point, threw him in so hard that the bottom rope snapped away from the turnbuckle, causing the fans to chant “Oh My God, Oh My God” (congratulations to the NWS ring crew for getting the ropes re-attached as the match was going on).  As expected, when Motion made his way back to the ring, Corrupted Youth had a few choice words for both Motion and his Sports Agent, which erupted into a brawl between the two, allowing Fuego to score the pin on Youth.  After the champions celebrated their victory, Maher got on the mic and told Youth “same old story…can’t win a match, even in your own home town”, and then challenged him to a match in December (when NWS returns to Manasquan). Maher told Youth to get a manager and he looked around and saw Tammy (aka Sunny) who was doing ring announcing duties.  She said “I can’t be your manager, but I will be your tag team partner).  This sent the crowd into hysteria and Maher had no choice but to accept.

The next match was, unknown to fans, a teacher vs pupil match as John “Balls” Mahoney, fresh off last weeks WWE television tapings, took on one of his students, Ripper Eddie Collins.  Mahoney was accompanied to ringside by his wife Gail and informed the referee and NWS officials that she had obtained a managers license and she would be in his corner. Collins told Mahoney that it didn’t matter who he had in his corner, that he had more strength in his right hand than Balls and Gail had combined and proceeded to crush an apple in his bare hand, then threw it at Gail.  This infuriated Balls, who told the referee to “stay out of the way and let things go”.  After seeing all the Balls Mahoney, ECW and Chris Candido shirts around the building asked both wrestlers if they wanted him out of the way.  When both said yes, the referee informed the wrestlers and the fans that this was a “hardcore match” (NWS officials were later heard yelling at the referee about his decision saying NWS runs “family style events”.  More on this story as it develops, as NWS Commissioner Gino Moore and the referee were scheduled for a meeting this week to discuss this matter).  Balls went after Collins with rules not seen in NWS rings since the June ECW style show in South River, but Collins, reminding Balls that he learned everything from Mahoney, knew his weaknesses and gave as much punishment as he took.  He locked Balls into his finisher, The Iron Claw, which opened up Balls, who started bleeding from the forehead.  The site of his own blood seemed to give Balls added strength and came back and grabbed his Hardcore Homecoming chair that he left in the corner and cracked Collins over the head with it.  He hit him so hard that the back of the chair flew into the third row of the seats.  From there, Balls hit a frog splash and asked his manager if there was a table in the building.  She pointed under the ring and she and Balls threw the table into the ring, set it up and threw Collins head first off the top turnbuckle into the table, enabling Balls to get the 1-2-3.

The third match of the night was a first ever for NWS and the Jersey Shore.  A dog collar match between the giant Equalizer and the man from the White Room, Slayer.  Slayer brought the chain with him and even offered The Equalizer one of his dog biscuits.  The Equalizer took it and proceeded to smash it into Slayer’s eye.  Finally, when The Equalizer put on the chain, the match was started.  He continued to work on Slayer’s face as Slayer was complaining to the referee he couldn’t see.  Finally, Slayer grabbed a bottle of water from a ringside fan and cleared the biscuit from his face.  He then went in-between the Equalizer’s legs and pulled the chain, causing the Equalizer to grimace in pain from the low blow.  While any normal wrestler who had endured the punishment that these two just did would have slowed things down, these two did just the opposite and tore into each other, causing the fans, who were still suffering from “dry throats” from the previous match to start yelling again, which made the two fight even more.  At the 12 minute mark, both wrestlers started hitting the corners to win the match.  After both had hit three of the buckles, The Equalizer thought he’d gain the advantage and picked up Slayer and tried throwing him over the top rope.  When he did this, Slayer hit his hand on the 4th buckle, enabling him to seal the win and the victory over The Equalizer.

As NWS officials were announcing intermission, Johnny Candido and Simon Diamond made their way to ringside to address the fans and announce that their match later on that evening was going to be cancelled because Jay Santana got lost coming to the building and rather than disgrace former WWE legend Tito Santana in a two on one match, they were offering him a one way ticket back to Mexico to avoid the beating. Tito made his way to the ring and said “I’m not afraid of you two punks and I have a surprise for you”.  With that, Jay Santana came running into the building and stood there ready to accept the challenge.  Diamond and Candido beat down Jay Santana before Balls Mahoney made his way to ringside with the chair that just broke in the match, and cleared the ring.  Balls told Candido he didn’t want to wait until next week, that he wanted him “now”.  NWS officials told Mahoney there was no contract for them to wrestle tonight and that Long Branch is only a week away and they’d have to wait.  Time for intermission.

After intermission, fans were treated to a full contact martial arts exhibition by the Real Fighting Dojo and even these fighters went at it full force.  At one point, the head trainer had to step in to stop the fighters from hurting each other.

Next was a match featuring the big man known as Brawley, managed by Ryan Maher and accompanied by Mr. Motion Shane Taylor, taking on the returning Corvis Fear (returning from a broken wrist that happened a few months ago at another indy show in New Jersey).  Maher told fans that even though he was out earlier managing and didn’t get the tag titles he wanted that he had his eye on the big man who would hurt everyone in NWS.  Fear, showing no fear caught Maher as he was leaving the ring then proceeded to punish the big man, sending him through and over the ropes.  It appeared that Fear had things well in control before Brawley started working on his injured wrist.  It appeared as though Fear was about to pass out from the pain before rolling through and once again beating on the larger man.  This is where Maher once again got involved and tripped up Fear, allowing Brawley to pick him up and slam him from the top rope.  He then pulled the tights and put his massive legs on the ropes, enabling Brawley to score the pin and steal the win.  Maher once again got on the mic and told fans “I told you so”.  As he was gloating, Tammy came up from outside the ring and hit him with a low blow, sending him to the mat.  Brawley and Taylor picked up Maher and he screamed in agony as they carried him back to the locker room area.  Maher kept asking both Brawley and Taylor to “rub it and make it feel better” (both wrestlers refused)

The main event saw Spring Lake native, John Candido team with NWA TNA star Simon Diamond as they took on the team of Jay and Tito Santana.  Before the match started, Balls Mahoney gave a person sitting in the front row a shirt in exchange for his seat, so he could keep an eye on Candido.  Tito started the match against Johnny, however Candido refused to wrestle the WWE legend and demanded that Jay start the match. Finally Tito tagged in his nephew and the match got under way. It quickly turned into a two on one with Diamond and Candido keeping Jay away from making the tag.  Once the tag was made, Tito sent both Simon Diamond and Johnny Candido out of the ring.  While on the outside, Johnny threw a chair at Balls and the two started brawling outside the ring and clear out of the building (they were on the train tracks heading toward the Manasquan Train Station).  This left Diamond to fend for himself and then the Santana’s did a little double-teaming of their own before Jay Santana scored a pin over Simon Diamond.  As Diamond lay on the canvas, fans started chanting “you suck”, but Diamond, in his mature, calming ways told them “I don’t suck…you do…you suck…you suck”).  Balls made his way back to the building and told Diamond that his partner ran away, now it was his turn.  NWS officials told Balls that they couldn’t arrange the match tonight, but when they return to Manasquan in December, they would sanction a match. Balls said “its WWE vs NWA TNA”.  Bring it.

Great show.  The Balls/Collins match alone is worth buying the tape.  Definitely a match of the year candidate.
