National Wrestling Superstars kicked off 2008 with a stellar show at one of its favorite central NJ venues, the Manville VFW Hall, on Friday night January 18th. A near capacity crowd, estimated to be at least 200-300 fans, saw WWE and ECW TV stars get it on in the ring with local up and coming mat warriors.

(1) Boris Nobika (w/ King Ran-sid Akhbar Idu Stinq) defeated Sabotage, after hitting him with the Russian flag while King Stinq was distracting the referee, and delivering a piledriver.

(2) Former WWE protégé "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews (with former ECW star Julio Dinero & Miss Michelle) defeated ECW's Zombie, with an outside assist from Dinero.

(3) NWS Cruiserweight Champion J.D. Smoothie and Manville star Nate Mustang fought to a time limit draw. The match was originally booked as a non-title match, but Smoothie decided he was feeling in a charitable mood, and would give Mustang a beating in front of his hometown fans, and offered to make it a title match. He had reason to reconsider later, as Mustang hung in there with him for the whole match, and had Smoothie down for a pin after a side slam when the time limit expired. Smoothie retained the title, but Commissioner Moore announced a Cruiserweight Title rematch when NWS returns to Manville in April for the J-Cup Tournament, with no time limit and falls count anywhere.

(4) Former ECW star The Blue Meanie defeated Danny Demanto (w/ Julio Dinero & Miss Michelle). After a back-and-forth match, Demanto missed a Frog Splash and Meanie hit a Big Blue Elbow Drop, only to have Miss Michelle distract the referee. Meanwhile Dinero attempted to throw powder into Meanie's face, but Meanie kicked Dinero's hand and the powder went in Dinero's face instead. A blinded Dinero accidentally RKO'd Demanto instead, allowing Meanie to hit Demanto with a Stunner and pin him for the victory. After the match, The Baghdad Bullies, Kevin Matthews, Nicky Oceans and Gavin Quest joined Dinero in attacking Blue Meanie, but were chased off by The Patriot, Ice Pick, Rhett Titus, Draven, and former WWE star Eugene. Dinero demanded a match tonight, and Commissioner Moore announced that it would be Dinero vs. Eugene in the main event later.

(5) In an Eight-Man Tag-Team Grudge Match, former WWE & ECW star The Patriot & Rich "Ice-Pick" Lowinski & Indian Brave Draven & Rhett Titus defeated The Baghdad Bullies (T.N.T & Saddam Insane w/ King Idu Stinq) & Myke "G.Q." Quest & Nicky Oceans. Long-time rivals T.N.T and Ice Pick started the fight, and actually ended up brawling outside the building most of the match. The end came when Quest leaped off the top rope with a "Wet Floor" sign aimed at Ice Pick as he was held by T.N.T, but Ice Pick ducked and Quest hit T.N.T instead, allowing Ice Pick to pin him for the victory. Quest was attacked by T.N.T and Oceans for causing the loss, but The Patriot and his team rescued Quest, who hesitated to show gratitude, but in the end embraced his new friends.

(6) In the Main Event, former WWE star Eugene defeated former ECW star Julio Dinero (w/ Miss Michelle & "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews & Danny Demanto). Commissioner Moore sent Demanto and Matthews back to the locker room. After surviving Dinero's Claw hold, Eugene "hulked up" and proceeded to hit Dinero with the Leg Drop of Doom, Rock Bottom, and Five-Knuckle Shuffle. Dinero countered with an RKO, and in the ensuing scuffle the referee got knocked out. Miss Michelle attempted to hold down Eugene for Dinero to finish off, but Eugene got out of the way and proceeded to finish his tribute to WWE finishers with a Stone Cold Stunner and a Pedigree on Dinero, which got him the pinfall victory and sent the fans home happy.

NWS continues its 2008 opening weekend at the Italian-American Social Club Crystal Room in North Plainfield, NJ on Saturday night January 19th at 7:35pm, followed by a show by its Delaware affiliate Funkdafied Wrestling Federation at the Christiana, DE Fire Company Hall on Sunday afternoon January 20th beginning at 3:30pm (and ending in plenty of time to watch the Giants vs. Packers).
