NATIONAL WRESTLING SUPERSTARS RESULTS FROM UNION NEW JERSEY
In today’s economy, it’s no surprise to read that wrestling companies, both large and small are postponing shows, cancelling shows, pulling talent asking (or expecting) wrestlers and staff to work for free and sometimes worse by not having proper insurance or rent for building. But once again, National Wrestling Superstars proved that they are not just any wrestling company as once again, they packed yet another building, this time on Friday night, February 20th at the Union NJ Elks Lodge and the fans, many who attended their first NWS event (this was obvious when wearing other wrestling promotions t-shirts) and clamored for more after the double main event. Or maybe the fans heard that CBS Evening News was going to be at the show doing a story that will get national coverage (according to the people at CBS, the piece is scheduled to air on Saturday night at 6pm as a tie-in to the movie The Wrestler, M ickey Rourke and the Academy Awards. Whatever it was, the fans packed the house and most had a great time from the opening bell til the final bout was over.
Match #1
Tag Team Action
The BS Express vs JD Smooth and Justice Hall
The BS Express, fresh off their nearly surprise win at last month’s J-Cup Tag Team Tournament were hoping to use the team of Smooth Justice as a stepping stone back into NWS Tag Team Title Contention, but the experience of the Cruiserweight champion (Smooth) and the cunningness of Justice Hall proved a little too much as the latter team cheated their way to a victory.
Match #2
NWS Jersey Shore Title Bout
Mike “G.Q.” Quest vs Manny More
Emmanuel More (no relation to the NWS commissioner Gino Moore) was making his NWS debut and had hoped to make it a successful one by taking the Jersey Shore title currently held by Mike “G.Q” Quest and for much of the first 11 minutes of the bout, it looked it just might happen, but Quest managed to use the ropes and scored a pin over More. Non the less, the newcomer made a great impression on the fans and promoters who promised him “many more” matches in the future.
Match #3
NWS Junior Heavyweight Title Bout
Rhett Titus vs Corvis Fear
Fear, looking very much like his cousin from Mexico Paco Libro (who was allegedly in hiding due to the Al ex Rodriguez scandal) claimed he was going to show the people that while Rhett may look “pretty”, it takes real talent along with looks to make it in the wrestling business. Titus, ignored taunts from Fear and kept his focus on what has made him the champion and fought back against every one of Fear’s dirty tricks (including lots of hair pulling and eye gouging) and even caught Fear with some of his own chicanery and at the end pinned Fear in the middle of the ring 1-2-3.
Match #4
Singles Bout
Nicky Oceans vs Nikko the Monkey Boy
Oceans, one half of the NWS tag team champions, was accompanied to the ring by NWS heavyweight champion Danny Demanto and Dr. LaMar Braxton Porter who seemed to be the spokesman for the group and said “I am out here guiding you fans onto bigger and better things, not only for Oceans, but more for myself. I have been scouting the entire NWS roste r and see no one who can match my strength, agility, charisma and most of all my education…except for you two of course (speaking of Oceans and Demanto). With that Nikko’s music plays and out comes the fan-favorite monkey boy, who, after seeing 3 people in the ring talked monkey to NWS Commissioner Gino Moore who said “you say there are three of them and only one of you and you want someone to watch your back?” Go ahead and see if you can find somebody (kudos to Commissioner Moore for speaking Monkey). He went to the back and came back with the former ECW Zombie. Once the match got started, the two wrestlers put on a good exhibition of wrestling with Nikko doing all kinds of flips and Oceans using his experience and cunning to keep the Monkey on his toes while Zombie and Demanto fought on the outside of the ring. Due to a miscue by Dr. Porter, he tripped up Oceans instead of the Monkey and Nikko scored the win. Porter, incensed at what just happened joined Oceans on a 2 on 1 beat down on Nikko (and eventually Zombie) before being joined by Demanto (making it a 3 on 1) when out from the back came former WWE star Chris Masters to save Nikko and Zombie. Commissioner Moore, speaking in Commissionereze ordered a match pitting Danny Demanto and Dr. Braxton against Chris Masters and The Zombie later on in the show.
Intermission
Match #5
Chris Masters and ECW Zombie vs Danny Demanto and Dr. LaMar Braxton Porter
Demanto and Porter were out first yelling that they should not have to wrestle in front of the fans who obviously don’t appreciate the talent, charisma and high energy that they bring to the ring. Then Chris Master’s was introduced along with his teammate the former ECW Zombie. To Porter’s credit, he is one man who can stand toe to toe with the former “Masterpiece” in size and stature and both Masters and Porter seemed anxious to square off against each other. After several attempts to out-power each other, Demanto reached over and grabbed Masters and kept a double-team on him until Master’s tagged out to Zombie, who again found himself on the bad end of the two on one. While keeping Zombie in the middle of the ring, both Porter and Demanto taunted Master’s who tried coming into the ring and when the ref pushed him back, it was back to the two on one. Not to say the Zombie didn’t get his own strange of offense in against his opponents (and much to the surprise of the fans, showed a sensational series of wrestling…yes wrestling moves) before tagging out to Master’s who clamped the Master Lock on Demanto. As the champion was about to pass out, Porter hit Master’s with his chiropractic bones and tagged himself in and scored the pinfall 1-2-3 over Chris Masters. Commissioner Moore, observing the match from the video cameras came out and told Demanto that he should be proud of himself for finding a partner that had his back. He then told Danny he had a surprise for him. He told him that “if” he is successful in defending his title on Saturday at the NWS mega event at Bloomfield High School, he would then have to defend the belt against the ECW Zombie when NWS returns to Union County in May. If however he loses the title either in Bloomfield or anytime afterwards, he would have to face Zombie one on one with a very interesting stipulation. The loser of the match has to kiss his (Gino’s) butt in the middle of the ring.
Match #6
Main Event
Two Out of Three Falls Tables Match
The H Squad (Brian Harley and Corey Havoc) vs Mr. Nick Gregory and Blade Michaels
This match was an all-out war with the rule book being completely tossed out and the referee just letting everyone basically tear each other apart. The H Squad got rid of Blade Michaels and concentrated on destroying Nick Gregory who easily fell prey to a double team through a table, giving the H Squad a lead in the two out of three fall contest. After a 60 second rest between falls, Havoc worked on Michaels while Harley worked on Gregory. With Gregory outside the ring, Havoc yelled “Brian, Get The Table” and set the table up in the middle of the ring where it looked like Michaels would become the victim of the table and make for an easy night. However, Gregory pulled the table away and set it up in the corner and it once again became a battle where rules didn’t matter. This turned ou t to be a blessing for Michaels and Gregory when they launched Havoc into the corner and into the table to even the match up. After another rest period, the third and final fall started and this was total mayhem as both teams knew what they had to do to win and planned on doing just that…win. The table was setup in the middle of the ring (who both teams claimed they were going to set it up) and both teams tried putting their opponents through it. To everyone’s surprise, Harley was caught by Gregory and put through the table, giving Blade Michaels and Nick Gregory the match and the win.
