NWS Results From "2010 Captain Lou Albano Memorial J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament" In Woodbridge, NJ 2/19: Captain Lou Is Memorialized As Eight Championship-Worthy Tag-Teams Compete In An Elimination Tournament, Plus Special Appearance By Former WWE Star Giant Silva

National Wrestling Superstars made its first appearance at the Woodbridge, NJ Elks Lodge in over three years on Friday night February 19th, and this return was extra special as NWS presented its annual J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament, which this year was re-christened as the Captain Lou Albano Memorial J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament, in memory of the late great WWE Hall of Fame wrestler and tag-team manager extraordinaire. The Woodbridge area fans certainly gave a hearty welcome to NWS and the tournament, as a near-capacity energetic Friday night crowd filled all sides of the building to cheer on their favorite teams.

Before the show began, NWS ring announcer Johnny Falco introduced Captain Lou's niece Kami Albano, and explained the rules of the tournament. Eight teams would compete in a single elimination tournament. The first and second round matches would be ten-minute time-limit matches, with a five-minute sudden death overtime, and if no winner emerged the fans would choose the winner. The final match would be no time limit, one fall to a finish.
In the first round of the tournament (the matchups were determined by random drawing):
  • The BS Express defeated Team Moore Than Too Hot (Devon Moore & "Too Hot" Steve Scott). The Express' power and the high-flying abilities of Moore and Scott made for a well-matched opening contest. But power won out, as The Express put out Scott with a spiked RKO then planted Moore into the mat with a double-facebuster for the 1-2-3. All four men shook hands in a show of sportsmanship after the match.
  • The Cold-Hearted Playas (Danny Demanto & Vicious Vinny) defeated Team Title Holders (NWS Tag-Team Champion Corvis Fear & NWS Jersey Shore Champion Myke "G.Q." Quest). This was the first official match for this unlikely duo of former bitter enemies, and the fans certainly let Vinny know how they felt about his turning his back on them. Fear and Quest had no intention of rolling over for them, and took the fight to Demanto and Vinny. In the end, it was cheating by the Playas that made the difference... after Quest and Fear had planted Vinny into the mat with a double-team underhook suplex, Demanto pushed Fear into the referee, and while they were arguing, Demanto grabbed one of the opposition's title belts and leveled Quest with it. Vinny covered Quest as the referee turned around and counted 1-2-3.
  • The Commandos (former WWE developmental star "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews & NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans, managed by Brittney Savage) defeated The Jock Mafia (Mike Dennis & Chris D'Andrea). The Jock Mafia showed why they are rising tag-team stars, giving The Commandos more opposition than they expected. But, like the last match, cheating ended up being the deciding factor, as after Matthews had been leveled with a flying clothesline, Oceans snuck in a pair of brass knuckles behind the referee's back and knocked out his opponent. The referee turned around and saw Oceans making the cover and counted 1-2-3.
  • The Nigerian Nightmares (with manager Voodoo Princess Sheeta) crushed Team Upstart (NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janella & Ryan Rumble, with manager "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie). With each member outweighing Janella and Rumble combined, The Nightmares had little difficulty in getting through their first round opposition, flattening Rumble with a Nigerian Leg Roll for the easy 1-2-3. Janella left the ring in frustration, kicking his manager Smoothie as he left.
In the second round of the tournament:
  • The Nigerian Nightmares (with manager Voodoo Princess Sheeta) defeated The Cold-Hearted Playas (Danny Demanto & Vicious Vinny). Demanto was The Nightmares' one-time mentor in 2009, and he tried to use that to convince them to "lay down" for him, but they would have no part of it. The match turned into a battle of the two most powerful teams in NWS. After Vicious Vinny fallway-slammed one Nightmare and bodyslammed the other, Demanto hit a moonsault from the top rope on them both, and it looked like The Nightmares' undefeated streak was about to come to an end. But The Playas' cheating in the first round came back to haunt them as Myke Quest and Corvis Fear came to ringside; Fear distracted Demanto and the referee while Quest clocked Vinny with his title belt. The stunned Vinny staggered into the center of the ring and was crushed by a Nigerian Sandwich, and pinned 1-2-3. The Nightmares advanced to the finals.
  • The Commandos (former WWE developmental star "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews & NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans, managed by Brittney Savage) defeated The BS Express. The match stayed even, and there was no winner when the bell sounded at the ten-minute time limit mark. As dictated by tournament rules, the five-minute sudden-death overtime period was started, and The Express held the advantage until Oceans clocked Express member Tom with a "Wet Floor" sign from the outside. Tom staggered right into a Matthews-Lock, and the referee rang the bell. The Commandos advanced to the finals to face The Nigerian Nightmares.
Former WWE Oddities member The Giant Silva won a handicap "Gullivers Travels" Match against Robert Pigeon & Sonny Boy Gulano & Tiger Man & Goat Boy (with "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie as their manager). The goal was for Silva's Lilliputian-sized opponents to pin Silva inside a giant fishnet. Each of Silva's opponents tried to take him down individually, but being out-weighed more than three to one, they each were flattened by Silva. Eventually all four, plus Smoothie, ganged up on Silva and were actually able to topple him over the top rope. But Silva got to his feet and overpowered them all, and Smoothie's charges gave up and left the ring, leaving Smoothie all by himself to get chokeslammed and (literally) carried away in the fishnet by Silva.
In the Finals of the Tournament, The Nigerian Nightmares (with manager Voodoo Princess Sheeta) defeated The Commandos (former WWE developmental star "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews & NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans, managed by Brittney Savage) to become the 2010 J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament Champions. The Commandos came out first and then jumped The Nightmares as they came through the curtain. All four men brawled outside the ring, and when they finally got back to the ring, Matthews and Oceans kept the smaller Nightmare (the one who only weighs a little over 400 pounds) grounded for several minutes with repeated blows to the legs. But then Oceans missed a flying splash, the larger Nightmare tagged in and cleaned house on both Oceans and Matthews, and not even an attempted distraction by Brittney could deter The Nightmares, as they crushed Matthews in the corner with a double avalanche. Oceans attempted to bring the ring bell hammer into the ring, but The Nightmares caught him, and flattened him with a Nigerian Leg Roll and pinned him 1-2-3 to win the match and tournament.
Captain Lou's niece Kami Albano came into the ring to award the trophy to The Nightmares, and a moment of silence was held in memory of Captain Lou.

NWS Results From Bloomfield, NJ 2/20: Former WWE & ECW Star Nunzio, WWE Legend "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, The Original WWE Diva Sunny, A Four-Way Ladders Tables And Chairs Match & More As NWS Puts On Another Dynamite Bloomfield Show

National Wrestling Superstars made its annual return to the Bloomfield, NJ High School Gym, where NWS has staged some of its biggest shows ever. And like previous years, NWS being in town brought out all the fans, with a crowd easily more than 600 packing the gym to see some hot pro wrestling action.

In a pre-show "dark match" between Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU) stars, Brittney Savage defeated newcomer Divina Fly. The feisty rookie took the fight to Brittney, but the veteran won out in the end, hitting Divina with an RKO and pinning her 1-2-3.

NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janella retained his title in a triple-threat match against former champions "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie and Mighty Mikey Pacifica. Pacifica was returning to action after being out with a neck injury, and showed no ring rust at all, as all three high-fliers kept up a fast and furious pace inside and outside the ring, and kept the fans on the edge of their seats. In the end, Janella caught Pacifica in a Michinoku Driver and held him down for the three-count.
Before the next match, The Cold-Hearted Playas (Danny Demanto & Vicious Vinny) came to the ring along with the WWE's original diva Sunny and Gigalo Joe Jones. This was Vinny's first area appearance since he turned his back on the fans and allied himself with his former rival Demanto, and his hometown crowd certainly told him how they felt. Danny and Vinny said that despite NWS attempting to derail them by bringing in former WWE & ECW star Nunzio and Dan Maff, they would be victorious.

2010 J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament Champions The Nigerian Nightmares (with manager Voodoo Princess Sheeta) crushed "The White Urkel" B. Fehrm & The Illegal Outer Space Alien. While The Alien and Fehrm had courage, they had no power against The Nightmares. Fehrm was flattened by an overhead slam from the top rope (which from a 400+ pound wrestler is impressive all by itself) followed by a Tower of Doom Superplex by The Nightmares, which led to an easy and merciful three-count.

The Cold-Hearted Playas (Danny Demanto & Vicious Vinny, with managers the original WWE diva Sunny and Gigalo Joe Jones) defeated former WWE and ECW star Nunzio & Dan Maff. After insulting the crowd some more, including members of the Bloomfield Police who were in attendance, this match was an out-and-out brawl. Demanto and Vinny kept Nunzio in their corner for several minutes, but Nunzio was able to escape and tag in his Jersey All-Pro tough guy partner who cleaned house, and flattened both Demanto and Vinny in the corner with a Maff Roll. After Nunzio flattened Demanto with a Sicilian Slice, it looked as if he and Maff would come away victorious, but Vinny broke up the count and threw Maff out of the ring, then delivered a superlex to Nunzio followed by a flying splash from Demanto, who covered Nunzio for the three-count.

While The Playas and Sunny were celebrating their victory, Commissioner Gino Moore came out and announced that while he was tempted to reverse the decision, he had a better idea... coming up later in the show was a special Ten Man Battle Royal featuring members of the Bloomfield Police and Fire departments, and two spots for members of the Bloomfield UNICO chapter. Commissioner Moore announced that Demanto and Vinny would compete in the Battle Royal in the two UNICO spots, and the members of the Bloomfield Police whom Demanto and Vinny had insulted earlier cheered on the decision.

The Ten-Man Battle Royal featuring the Bloomfield Police and Fire departments and The Cold-Hearted Playas (Danny Demanto & Vicious Vinny) quickly turned into Demanto & Vinny versus everyone else. At first Demanto and Vinny managed to eliminate most of the opposition and it looked like they would be victorious, but the Police fielded a late 300+ pound competitor who took down both Demanto and Vinny with a double Stone Cold Stunner, then threw them both out of the ring, and celebrated their victory to the delight of the crowd.

In the first of two main event matches, WWE legend "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeated former WWE developmental protege "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews (with manager Gigalo Joe Jones). Despite Matthews and Jones trying to pull out every trick in the book, Duggan was still the better "tough guy". Jones tried to hold Duggan against the ropes for Matthews to clobber, but Duggan ducked and Matthews took out his manager instead. Duggan then leveled Matthews with his running tackle, and pinned him 1-2-3.
In the second main event match, a Money-In-The-Bank Ladders-Tables-and-Chairs Match, Devon Moore was victorious against NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans, Jersey Shore Champion "G.Q." Myke Quest, and Tag-Team Champion Corvis Fear. The action was literally all over the gym, as wrestlers, chairs, and ladders flew everywhere. Towards the end of the match, with the action all back in the ring, Moore moonsaulted himself onto Fear and smashed him through a pair of chairs. Quest hit a chair-first avalanche on Oceans in the corner and Moore followed it up with a Van-Terminator-style flying dropkick on Oceans. Quest hit Moore with a double-underhook suplex. Fear then took out Quest with a chair shot to the gut and a double underhook suplex of his own, and Oceans followed it up by piledriving Quest onto a chair. Oceans then tried to take out Fear with a hurricanrana, but Fear reversed it and tossed Oceans on top of a table, then hit a flying splash on Oceans from the top rope, smashing him through the table. Quest then took out Fear with a back suplex into one of the ladders in the opposite corner, then he and Moore attempted to climb the other ladder to retrieve the money in the bank briefcase. As they both reached the top of the ladder, Moore was able to knock Quest off balance long enough to retrieve the briefcase, winning the match and earning him an NWS match of his choice anytime in the next twelve months.

NWS returns to action with another double-shot weekend Friday night February 26th in Madison, NJ and Saturday night February 27th in Keyport, NJ, both nights headlined by former WWE stars Snitsky, "El Matador" Tito Santana, and "America's Hero" The Patriot.
