NWS Internet News Update For Week Of 5/10: The Annual Mother's Day Mayhem Weekend (With Plenty Of Mayhem), The 2010 J-Cup Is This Friday, The Nigerian Nightmares Not Satisfied With Just Beating Up Their Opponents, And More

Hello NWS fans! This is your weekly update on what's happened, what is happening now, and what is going to happen soon in the nation's leading family-friendly pro wrestling promotion, National Wrestling Superstars.

Upcoming Shows This Weekend

This Friday night May 14th, NWS returns to the Kenilworth, NJ Veterans Center (33 South 21st Street, just off The Boulevard, minutes from the Parkway) for one of the biggests pro wrestling shows of the year, the "2010 Chris Candido Memorial J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament", with a 7:45pm bell time.
Chris Candido was a resident of New Jersey and an international pro wrestling star, having wrestled in the WWE, ECW, WCW, and TNA, as well as in Japan. He was revered for his excellent skills in the ring, and loved outside the ring for his warm-hearted personality.
That is, until his tragic death five years ago due to complications from surgery after an injury in the ring.
At the same time in 2005, popular Northeast pro wrestling promotion National Wrestling Superstars had just acquired the rights to the presigious J-Cup Tournament from the now defunct Jersey Championship Wrestling, and was preparing to stage its first edition of this great event. As Chris had made countless appearances for NWS over the previous years, NWS renamed the tournament in his name to honor his memory.
In the spirit of Chris' tremendous wrestling ability, this event will bring twelve of the area's best cruiserweight, middleweight, and junior-heavyweight wrestlers together for a one-night single-elimination tournament. This year's Class Of 2010 includes the following national, regional, and local pro mat stars:
  • Former WWE developmental star Pat "The Buck Stops Here" Buck,
  • Ring Of Honor star Alex Payne
  • Chikara Wrestling star Frightmare
  • EWA Wrestling star "Hurricane" John Walters
  • ECPW star Nick Talent
  • NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janella
  • NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans.
  • NWS Jersey Shore Champion "G.Q." Myke Quest
  • "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie
  • Mike Dennis
  • Chris D'Andrea
  • "Too Hot" Steve Scott
And for those fans who also enjoy seeing the heavyweights of the wrestling world in action, fear not... they will all be competing in a Big Man Over-The-Top-Rope Battle Royal, which will feature such stars as NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted Corey Havoc, "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto, "Hillbilly" Justin Blackwell, former WWE developmental protege "Too Cocky Kevin Matthews, Baghdad Bullies members Hasheem "Chemical" Ali and Saddam Insane, Mister Nick Gregory, Snake-Eyes, and many more.
They will be competing not for a trophy, but something much different... a match later that night with former WWE behemoth "The Ugandan Headhunter" Kamala, with former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot as special guest referee.
All this and more. Tickets are only $18 for adults and $16 for kids and seniors.
This Saturday night May 15th, NWS returns to Flemington, NJ's American Legion Hall (41 State Route 31, just off U.S. Route 202, immediately north of the Flemington Circle), with a 7:35pm bell time.
Headlining this much-anticipated show will be none other than former WWE TV superstar "The Ugandan Giant" Kamala. He's big, he's strong, he doesn't know the meaning of the word "fear" (or too many other English words for that matter), and he's coming to Flemington hungry for competition.
And while we're on the subject of large, savage wrestlers, the 800+ pound tag-team of The Nigerian Nightmares (Maifu & Saifu), undefeated in NWS since their debut more than a year ago, will return to Flemington to take on members of the Zoo World Order (ZWO), "Big Tiger" Nash and "Da Baaa'd Guy" Goat Hall. Last time these two teams met, Tiger and Goat had to be carried out of the ring after being crushed by the Nightmares. This time, the ZWO promises to unleash their true animal instincts.
Also on the bill will be a "Three-Way Dance For Supremacy" between three of the top stars on the wrestling circuit, in Ring of Honor star Alex Payne, "Hurricane" John Walters, and "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews. Plus, The Famous TV Wrestling Clown, NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janella and former champions "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie and Mighty Mikey Pacifica, The Soul Assassin, and much more.
Tickets are only $18 for adults and $16 for kids & seniors.
Tickets are available by calling the NWS box office at (732) 888-1704. All major charge cards are accepted, and group rates are available for groups of ten or more. Remaining seats, if any, will go on sale at the door one hour before bell time.

Results From Last Weekend:

Just like the change of seasons, you can always count on National Wrestling Superstars to return to the Manville VFW Hall where the fans pack in the seats and cheer on their favorites. Last Friday, May 7th was no exception as the fans got what they always expect from an NWS event... excitement... and plenty of it.
  • Match #1: Brittney Savage & "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie defeated Jumping Joey Janela & Tina SanAntonio in an inter-gender showdown that saw both teams battle in and out of the ring before Savage got the 1-2-3 on San Antonio.
  • Match #2: A battle of the flyers saw Chikara Wrestling’s Frightmare go to a ten minute draw with Ring of Honor star Alex Payne. Payne asked the crowd for five more minutes but the time limit expired. Both wrestlers shook hands after the match.
  • Match #3: A Heel vs Heel tag-team match as The Nigerian Nightmares (with Voodoo Princess Sheeta) took on the team of "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans & Pat Buck. Buck and Oceans held their own against the larger team and looked like they may defeat the Nigerians, but as Buck was holding the smaller of the Nightmares, Oceans went for a punch but the Nigerian Nightmare ducked and Oceans hit Buck. They started to brawl and were counted out of the ring. Commissioner Gino Moore ordered security to break them up and told both Oceans and Buck to stop. He told them he had an open spot on next week’s show in Flemington and that they could settle their differences there and sent them to the back. The Nigerians, still wanting a victory were looking into the crowd when Sheeta chased ring announcer Destiny into the ring. As the Nigerians were about to attack, Security charged the ring and were totally destroyed by the Nightmares. This allowed Destiny to escape and the Nightmares, still upset from the fact they didn’t get a victory, continued to pummel the hapless security guards before referees got security out of the ring and safely to the locker room area where they were attended to by local EMT’s.
  • Match #4: After intermission, fans were told to show their weapons as they were about to see a first-ever NWS Manville Street Fight Tag Team Match. The first team out were Jack Spade and one-half of the Baghdad Bullies Hasheem “Chemical” Ali.  As they were being introduced, Rich “Ice Pick” Lowinski and Indian Chief Draven charged the ring and the battle started. They brawled inside and outside of the ring using such weapons as a Lemon Pie, Golf Club, Clock, Stop Sign, Nintendo, Chairs, Skate Boards, Guitar, Chains (you name it, they brought it). The fans weren’t safe either as they were hit with the pie as it was used. After 14 minutes, Draven and Ice Pick put their opponents on a table in the ring and jumped off the corner posts and got a double pin.
  • Match #5: This was a match for the NWS Jersey Shore Title pitting champion “G.Q.” Myke Quest against Dave Cole. These two battled back and forth and had the fans on the edge of their seats. At the eight-minute mark, Cole had Quest with his head outside the ring and did a leg drop across Quests neck. Quest snapped his neck back and opened up a wound on the back of his neck but managed to finish the bout and retain his title with a 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring.
  • MAIN EVENT: The main event saw Reality Check members Danny Demanto & Kevin Matthews take on two former TV wrestling legends in the likes of The Blue Meanie and the wrestler formerly known as Rikishi. This bout had lots of action and comedy as Demanto and Matthews challenged their opponents to a Dance-Off in the middle of the ring. It looked as though Reality Check may actually have pulled off the victory over Blue Meanie but he was able to make the tag and Rikishi came in and cleaned house, doing a butt drop on Demanto for the win. The match didn’t end there as fans were chanting for a Stink Face which Rikishi gladly obliged and hit it on Demanto, sending the fans home happy.
  • Notes: TNA stars Angelina Love and Sonjay Dutt were at the show taking in the action and observing and interacting with the NWS fans.
National Wrestling Superstars returned to North Middletown, NJ's St. Catherine's Church Gym on Saturday night May 8th for it's annual Mother's Day Mayhem Weekend appearance, and a large and loud throng of Bayshore area fans filed into the gym for a hot night of action.
  • In an opening inter-gender tag-team match, "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie & WSU Spirit Champion Brittney Savage (accompanied by NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc & bodyguard Rotten Ralph) defeated the team of Skitzo & Tina SanAntonio. Although Skitzo and Tina had the power advantage, the experience (and dirty tricks) advantage was clearly in Smoothie's and Brittney's favor. It was Havoc and his bodyguard on the outside who made the difference in this match, as after Tina had leveled Smoothie with a bulldog and was ready to pin him, Ralph distracted the referee and Havoc snuck into the ring and leveled Tina with a big boot, then hit Skitzo with a "Wet Floor" sign. Smoothie then hit a flying legdrop on Skitzo and covered him for the 1-2-3.
  • In a three-way Battle of The Bayshore Big Men, Shock defeated Michael Reigns and newcomer Arkham. Shock and Reigns spent most of the match trying to one-up each other with power moves on Arkham, and in the end Shock hit a lariat on Arkham and a DDT on Shock, then covered Shock for the 1-2-3.
  • In a four-on-two handicap match, The Nigerian Nightmares (Maifu & Saifu, with manager Voodoo Princess Sheeta) defeated (utterly crushed would be a more appropriate term) the Zoo World Order (Hollywood Hulk-arilla & "Big Furry" Tiger Nash & "Da Baaaaa-d Guy" Goat Hall, & Nikko-Pac). After unsuccessfully trying to recruit The Nightmares to the ZWO, the four opponents were tossed around the ring like stuffed animals for the entire match. Eventually Nikko-Pac was left alone in the ring when his teammates bailed out, and received a Nigerian Sandwich, a double Avalanche in the corner, and "Throw Him Under A Bus" from the top rope before NWS Commissioner Moore ran down and threw in the towel for Nikko-Pac, stopping the match and giving The Nightmares the victory. Angry that the officials had interrupted the match before they were through, Sheeta and The Nightmares attacked Referee Jimmy Storm, with Sheeta blinding him with Voodoo Powder and The Nightmares flattening him with an overhead slam and a Nigerian Leg Roll, and even an assisted flying splash from Sheeta herself. The local EMT's were called to ringside, but The Nightmares continued to attack Storm even while he was on the stretcher before Security was finally able to get them away.
  • In a grudge match, referee-turned-wrestler Big Bill Mills defeated T.N.T (with fellow Baghdad Bullies member Saddam Insane & bodyguard Rotten Ralph in his corner), with special guest referee "Outlaw" Shane O'Brien. After Saddam Insane was removed from ringside for not being a licensed manager, the two began brawling all over the ring, with T.N.T having the clear experience advantage (not to mention having the advantage of cheap shots from Rotten Ralph on the outside). But Shane had a score of his own to settle with T.N.T and was on the lookout for his tactics, so when Ralph tried to pass a chair to T.N.T, Shane stopped him in his tracks with a low blow, then conveniently looked the other way as Mills leveled T.N.T with the chair, and then Shane a low blow to T.N.T and counted the 1-2-3 as Mills covered him for the victory. Saddam Insane came back out and attacked Mills and Shane as they made their way back to the locker room before Security broke it up.
  • In the first of the two main event matches, the team of former WWE star Rikishi & former ECW star The Blue Meanie defeated former WWE developmental star "Platinum" Pat Buck & former ECW & WCW star Julio Dinero (with manager Miss Michelle). After a wild brawl with all four wrestlers, Rikishi cleaned house on both Dinero and Buck before leveling Buck with a Samoan Superkick and a Sit-Down Splash for the 1-2-3. After the match, Julio leveled Meanie on the floor with a chain and tried to ambush Rikishi in the ring, but Rikishi caught Dinero, threw him into the corner, and delivered a Stinkface to Julio to the delight of the crowd.
  • In the second main event match, a Three-Way Ladders-Tables-and-Chairs Money-In-The-Bank Match between three of NWS' champions, Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janela emerged victorious over Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans and Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc. This was a wild and brutal affair as all three champions gave it their all and showed why they are indeed on top. Havoc at one point speared both Oceans and Janela through a table, and towards the end it looked like he would take this battle, as he took out Janela with a suplex through a ladder suspended between the ropes and another ladder, and was poised to powerbomb Oceans through another table on the outside. But then Skitzo came to ringside carrying Havoc's title belt and taunting Havoc, clearly looking for revenge after Havoc cost him his bout earlier. While Havoc was distracted, Oceans grabbed him and executed his "Boom Boom Pow" finisher on Havoc through the table, leaving both wrestlers laying on the floor with Skitzo standing over Havoc and taunting him. Meanwhile, a battered Janela crawled up the ladder and retrieved the Money-In-The-Bank briefcase, giving him the victory and his choice of a match in NWS in the future.

The 2010 J-Cup Classic Is Only Days Away

We've been talking about it for weeks, even months. Now it's only days away, the 2010 Chris Candido Memorial J-Cup, one of indy wrestling's most anticipated events, will take place this coming Friday night May 14th in Kenilworth, NJ at one of NWS' most popular Union and Essex County area venues, the Kenilworth Veterans Center.
This year's tournament will feature twelve of the circuit's hottest cruiserweight, middleweight, and junior heavyweight competitors in a one-night single elimination tournament:
  • Jock Mafia member Mike Dennis
  • Jock Mafia member Chris D'Andrea
  • "Too Hot" Steve Scott
  • NWS Jersey Shore Champion "G.Q." Myke Quest
  • Ring Of Honor star Alex Payne
  • Chikara Wrestling star Frightmare
  • NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janella
  • NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans
  • EWA star "Hurricane" John Walters
  • Nick Talent
  • Former WWE protege Pat "The Buck Stops Here" Buck
  • "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie
The first round will consist of four triple-threat matches, with the four winners paired off in two semifinal matches leading up to the finals.
Who will win? The odds-makers have thrown up their hands in frustration, as this year's field is so competitive it could be anyone's night. The one thing that is certain is that if you are reading this and haven't gotten your tickets yet, you should right away, or you risk missing out on a great night of action.

The Nigerian Nightmares Are Beating Up More Than Just Their Wrestling Opponents

Any tag-team who can remain undefeated for over a year in a promotion where they wrestle multiple times per month would be more than satisfied.
But The Nigerian Nightmares (Maifu & Saifu) are not just any tag-team. And they are apparently no longer merely satisfied to just defeat their opponents in the ring.
Last weekend, this 800+ pound force of destruction wrestled on two nights, and continued their undefeated streak with victories on both nights. But on both nights, things did not end when the bell rang.
On Friday night in Manville, after defeating Nicky Oceans and Pat Buck, The Nightmares were still literally hungry, and turned their attention to guest ring announcer Destiny from WSU. Now Destiny is a lovely woman, but was definitely not interested in the brand of attention The Nightmares were offering. Security intervened to prevent Destiny from any harm, and the Nightmares ended up attacking the Security staff to the point where they required medical attention in the back.
History repeated itself on Saturday night in North Middletown. After The Nightmares crushed all four members of the Zoo World Order, NWS officials stopped the match to avoid having their opponents permanently injured. The Nightmares apparently were not ready to stop, and continued their attack moves on veteran NWS referee Sargeant Jimmy Storm, beating him so viciously that EMT's were called to ringside with a stretcher. And even after Storm was placed on the stretcher, Tne Nightmares continued their attack until Security was finally able to restrain them.
In the face of all this, what will NWS officials choose to do? There is talk amongst the locker room that referees are refusing to officiate The Nightmares' matches, and Security is balking at getting anyhere near them. NWS officials themselves are not inclined to incur the wrath of these individuals.
Stay tuned.

More NWS Upcoming Shows

Friday night May 21st, NWS returns to the Bergenfield, NJ V.F.W. Hall (321 South Washington Avenue, just north of Teaneck Road and Route 4), with a 7:45pm bell time.
Topping the bill will be former WWE RAW TV star Gene "It's Not My Fault" Snitsky, and his intent is to show another wrestler the door - literally - as he takes on New Milford area star Mo Sexton in Bergen County's first ever "Loser Gets Put Though A Door Match", where the goal is to literally drive your opponent through a wooden door. If you've never seen this type of match before, it is a spectacle not to be missed.
And another sight not to be missed is the 800+ pounds of the undefeated tag-team known as The Nigerian Nightmares (Maifu & Saifu). This team has been literally crushing their competition since their debut just over a year ago. But they will have a tall challenge on their hands in Bergenfield, in the form of the veteran tag-team Reality Check ("The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto & "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews).
Also on the bill, NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc will be in action against an as-yet unnamed opponent, and NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans will also see ring time, along with WSU Spirit Champion Brittney Savage who will defend her title against Tina SanAntonio. Plus also in action will be "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie, Boris Nobika and his manager Comrade Chow, J.P. Pierce, Pastor George, Blade Michaels, and the despised manager from Dubai, King Ran-sid Akhbar Idu Stinq.
Tickets are only $19 for adults and $17 for kids and seniors.
Saturday night May 22nd, NWS debuts at the Livingston, NJ High School Gym (30 Robert H. Harp Drive, minutes from Route 10 and the Livingston Circle), with a 7:35pm bell time.
Topping the bill will be former WWE RAW TV star Gene "It's Not My Fault" Snitsky, and his intent is to show another wrestler the door - literally - as he issues an open challenge for anyone in the building to face him in a match that has become his specialty in NWS, a "Loser Gets Put Though A Door Match", where the goal is to literally drive your opponent through a wooden door. If you've never seen this type of match before, it is a spectacle not to be missed.
Also topping the bill will be another former WWE TV legend will be in Livingston, none other than WWE Hall of Famer "El Matador" Tito Santana, who will issue an open challenge as well. Santana has made quite a few appearances in NWS in recent months, and defeated many of NWS' top stars; no doubt there will be more than one who will be happy to answer his challenge that night.
Also not to be missed that night is the appearance of the 800+ pound undefeated tag-team known as The Nigerian Nightmares (Maifu & Saifu). These two behemoths have been on a tear as of late, and in Livingston they will look to crush an as-yet unnamed pair of victims (who will be identified as soon as we can find two opponents willing to risk their lives).
The NWS Heavyweight Title will also be on the line as the champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc will defend the title against luchador Manuel Manny Moore, and Jersey Shore Champion "G.Q." Myke Quest and Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans will face each other in a Title-Versus-Title Challenge
But the other buzz around Livingston is the return of Livingston High School alumnus Diane D'Alessio, now Diane Janela, who will be in the corner of her son and current NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janela as he defends his title in a Triple-Threat Match against two former champions, "Mr Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie and Mighty Mikey Pacifica.
Tickets are only $20 for ringside seats and $18 for bleacher seats.
Tickets for all shows are available by calling the NWS box office at (732) 888-1704. All major charge cards are accepted, and group rates are available for groups of ten or more.
