- Press Release
…..
A capacity crowd of cheering and screaming fans filled the Shark River Hills Firehouse Hall on Saturday night March 22nd, as National Wrestling Superstars, in conjunction with Womens Superstars Uncensored, presented the 2008 Jersey J-Cup Women's Tournament, as seven of the best women wrestlers around competed for the coveted trophy, and in the process thrilled the fans to no end.
Before the first match, six of the participants (Mercedes Martinez, Princess Jana, Angel Orsini, Roxxie Cotton, Becky Bayless, and Rebecca Payne) came out to the ring as the trophy was shown to them and the crowd. It was announced that seven ladies would be competing, with three first round matches and one random lady would receive a bye to the second round. Becky Bayless seized the microphone and claimed to be the best wrestler of the group and deserving of the first-round bye. Commissioner Gino Moore came out and said that based on her actions the previous night in Bergenfield at the King And Queen Of The Ring Tournament, he was appointing a co-Commissioner for tonight, none other than the WWE's original diva Sunny. Sunny came out and announced that not only would Becky have to wrestle in the first round, she would be wrestling the missing mystery lady and should prepare for the worst beating of her life.
Bison Bravado defeated Corey Havoc in a bonus opening match. The two big men brawled all over the ring, but Bison finally put away Havoc with a tombstone piledriver.
In the first round of the tournament:
In the semifinal round of the tournament:
Just then Salvatore Sincere came to his ring and announced that, as Smoothie's friend and advisor, he had helped Smoothie negotiate a contract for this match that allowed him to invoke his rematch clause at any time, and Smoothie wanted his right now. Commissioner Moore reluctantly agreed it was in the contract, and called for the bell.
J.D. Smoothie defeated Mighty Mikey Pacifica to regain the NWS Cruiserweight Title. An exhausted Mikey was doomed from the start, and it did not take long, as Smoothie immediately hit a backwards piledriver on Mikey and pinned him 1-2-3. As Smoothie and Sal celebrated, Commissioner Moore promised Mikey that he would get another title opportunity on a future Neptune area show.
Mercedes Martinez defeated Angel Orsini in the final match to become the 2008 Jersey J-Cup Women's Tournament Champion. Angel and Mercedes tore into each other before the bell was rung, taking the fight outside the ring and all around the hall for several minutes before the referee was finally able to get them back in the ring. The two women brawled for several more minutes in the ring, before a double underhook suplex by Mercedes put Angel down for the 1-2-3 and the victory. Sunny presented Mercedes with the trophy as the entire locker room came to the ring to congratulate Mercedes.
NWS holds its annual show in Tower City, PA show on Saturday April 5th. NWS returns to action in the tri-state area with a double-shot weekend on Friday night April 11th in Carteret, NJ, and on Saturday April 12th in Atco, NJ.

Bison Bravado defeated Corey Havoc in a bonus opening match. The two big men brawled all over the ring, but Bison finally put away Havoc with a tombstone piledriver.
In the first round of the tournament:
- Rebecca Payne was randomly chosen to receive an automatic bye to the semifinal round.
- Mercedes Martinez defeated Princess Jana. The two double-tough ladies put on a fierce battle all over the ring, each withstanding the other's best shots and submission moves, until Mercedes hit her corkscrew neckbreaker finisher on Jana and pinned her to advance.
- Angel Orsini defeated Roxxie Cotton. Angel had little respect for Roxxie's abilities going in, but the petite shopaholic proved her status as a rising star, giving Angel all she could handle before Angel slapped on a vice grip submission hold and Roxxie tapped out.
- Becky Bayless came out for her first round match against her mystery opponent. Out came Sunny, who introduced Becky to her good friend, and former top diva in both WWE and ECW, DAWN MARIE! As Becky threw a fit in the ring, Sunny announced that she would be in Dawn Marie's corner as her manager.
- Becky Bayless defeated Dawn Marie by disqualification to advance in the tournament. Dawn Marie basically tore into Becky from the opening bell, pounding her with fists, kicks, and choke holds, with Sunny getting in a few shots herself for good measure. Becky did manage to mount some offense, but with Sunny giving Dawn a 2-on-1 advantage, it did not last long. After Dawn began choking Becky with a strap, the referee had enough and disqualified her, giving the victory to Becky. It took the efforts of both the referee and Sunny to pry Dawn away from Becky. Sunny told Dawn that, as co-Commissioner she had to admit that Dawn went to far, but after what Becky did to her last night, it was almost worth it.
In the semifinal round of the tournament:
- Angel Orsini defeated Rebecca Payne to claim the first spot in the finals. Even having a bye in the first round was not enough for Payne to overcome Angel, who eventually fell victim to a corkscrew neckbreaker by Angel who got the 1-2-3 victory.
- Mercedes Martinez defeated Becky Bayless to claim the other spot in the finals. The two women tore into each other from the bell with chops, kicks, punches, and a barrage of wrestling holds. Near the end, Becky seized the referee and used him as a shield to block one of Mercedes' kicks. While the referee was down in pain, Becky brought a screwdriver into the ring, but instead of hitting Mercedes with it, she tossed it to her and then lay down on the mat pretending to have been hit with it. The referee recovered, saw Mercedes holding the screwdriver over Becky lying on the mat, and called for the bell to disqualify Mercedes. Just then, co-Commissioner for the evening Sunny came out, and having seen what actually went down she ordered the match restarted and appointed herself as referee. A few seconds and a swinging neckbreaker later, Mercedes covered Becky and Sunny counted 1-2-3, giving Mercedes the victory and the spot in the finals.
