OVW TV Review - Classic Mr. Kennedy moment in Jeter-Cappotelli parking lot brawl by Eric Hall
This week's OVW TV was a great show highlighted by WWE Smackdown superstar Bobby Lashley getting pinned cleaned by OVW TV Champion Ken Doane. This once again shows Paul Heyman as the clear master of wrestling bookery, as any other time a WWE superstar appears on a show, or a bigger star is back in town, it's a DQ or a count out for the finish. But Heyman gets the most out of all performers, and gives the fans finishes in the matches. It's been a trademark of his since the early days of ECW.
The Doane vs Lashley match was very good. The match featured both men showing off their strengths, and Doane debuting a new move, more like a reverse In-Air RKO as his finisher. Lashley looked great in this match, too. The buildup to the match included OVW jobber Robbie Dawber conducting interviews backstage, but he kept on walking into the wrong room. He bumped into Boogeyman (who squashed Robert Fury in a match on this show),
Shelly Martinez (one of Aaron "The Idol" Stevens's valets, who was seducing Nick Nemeth), but finally got the interview with Lashley. However, Dawber was so annoying, Lashley clotheslined him in the locker room and said "I do my talking in the ring."
Nemeth took on Chris Cage, who scored a pinfall despite the fact The Idol was at ringside wiht Shelly and his other valet Beth Phoenix. Also involved, ever so briefly, in this match, was Monday Night Raw's newest Diva Micki James.
There was a superb promo by CM Punk about his match last week with Brent Albright. This is a new-style Heyman promo where clips run and different facial shots air of the wrestler as the wrestler delivers his message on a voiceover. Excellent video. Even though Punk lost, he called Albright "the second best techinical wrestler in OVW," and used clips from the match to illustrate why. This was so simple, and yet a great way to forward their feud.
There was a parking lot brawl as a followup to last week's Johnny Jeter vs Matt Cappotelli OVW Title Match. Early in the show, Cappotelli was looking for Johnny Jeter in the locker room, and ended up hitting Rene Dupree with a chair. Cappotelli was so amazing in this promo, as Dupree told him, "make love to Jeter's woman, don't hit him with a chair. That is the way of the French." Cappotelli then said, "you're so right. Why beat the man up? Know what I am gonna do? I'm gonna put down this chair, and go find Johnny Jeter, and make love to him!" Only Cappotelli could pull off that line. Dupree realized he was being duped, and then Cappotelli brained him with the chair.
Later, Cappotelli was headed over to Jeter's house, as Maria Kannelis tried to calm him down. Cappotelli's jeep was cut off by James and Chad Toland aka The Dicks and Mr. Kennedy, who cost Cappotelli the match last week. Cappotelli confronted them, and when their car pulled away, Kennedy announced himself.
Jeter then jumped Cappotelli in the parking lot, leading to a huge pullapart brawl. In the middle of al the chaos, The Dicks's car backed up, Kennedy jumped out, and said "Kennnnnnedy!"
This was just great.
Then the camera swung back to the fight, with Cappotelli screaming for Jeter, and Jeter screaming "I'm better than you!"
The Jeter vs Cappotelli OVW Title Match was the final episode of the October series of OVW TV. Videos and DVD's are now available of the shows on monthly tapes/DVDs. More information is available on www.ovwrestling.com.
Jeter vs Cappotelli rematch for the title takes place this Wednesday Night at the New Davis Arena, 4400 Shepderdsville Road, Louisville Kentucky. Also announced is Doane-Albright V for the OVW TV Title.
