A great TV show with one injury…..

OVW TV Report for Saturday, July 30, 2005

Week three of Heyman-written television hit the Kentuckiana airwaves last night as the return of MNM and match that went over 30 minutes on TV dominated the tube. This week's offering is a great tv show.

The tv show opened up with Maria in the locker room hyping the return of OVW of former WWE Tag Team Champions MNM with the ridicuously sexy and buxom Melina. As Maria says this, Melina and Nitro and Mercury approach and Melina snatches Maria by the throat and violently slams her against the wall. Melina chastises Maria, saying "I have to hear this everywhere, I don't need to hear this crap from a RAW girl!"  Good stuff.

We don't get the usual OVW open to the show, we go straight to Dean Hill and Al Snow at the desk. They run down the show, and out comes Mr Ken Anderson. For those who haven't been following, Heyman has been using Anderson to the fullest. Anderson introduces his two opponents, and then introduces himself and his own tag team partner Daniel Puder. This was an impressive outing for Puder, who did some shoot takedowns and throws on the two opponents, and then tagged in Anderson, who hit the Senton for the pin.

We cut backstage to MNM and Melina, who get into it with the Tollands. Seems The Tollands are not happy that their blonde hot bikini wearing babe Jillian Hall is now Moleface in WWE, and instead of saying it direct, they reference, "maybe next time you want to use our publicist, you'll give us the courtesy of a phone call." A well done backstage interview where MNM is told "if you want the OVW tag team titles back, earn a title shot."

After the first commercial break, Ken Doane defends the OVW TV Title against Chet the Jet. Good match, solid action, Doane hits a clean RKO, goes for the cover. Nick Nemeth's music hits. Two weeks ago, Nemeth was laid out with an RKO by Doane. Last week, Nemeth was victimized by an RKO from Doane while Nemeth was pounding on Doane's manager Kenny Bolin. This week, Nemeth comes out, and is confronted by Doane's valet, who is now called Soze, like Kaiser Soze from the movie The Usual Suspects. Nemeth kisses her, which enrages Doane, who chases Nemeth. The quick Nemeth circles through the ring, baseball slides Kenny Bolin, then puts the brakes on and reverses the chase, chasing Doane. Good spot. Doane tries to escape, but Nemeth cuts through the ring, and when Doane tries to get back into the ring, Nemeth hits him with an RKO and the audience exploded. After two weeks, the babyface reverses it on the heel. Good, clean, fun, simple angle, and it worked.

Backstage, MNM walk into The Thrillseekers. Last week, OVW Champ Brent Albright, a babyface, got into a scuffle backstage with Thrillseeker (and fellow babyface) Matt Capotelli. Seems Brent, who was victimized in Heyman's first week by a WWE Million Dollar Tough Enough Champion Daniel Puder Key Lock, didn't like hearing from Capotelli that the Key Lock almost took out Kurt Angle. "You need to be less impressed with what Puder almost did to Kurt Angle, and be more impressed with what he actually did to me." Anyway, Albright ends up in a fight with Capotelli, and tells Johnny Jeter to put a leash on his partner. Jeter takes offense and says, "that's all I am to you? Matt Capotelli's tag team partner?"  So this week, The Thrillseekers, with a little bit of tension, are confronted by MNM. In a class move, Capotelli welcomes MNM back to OVW, saying, "everywhere you go, you have repped OVW, and it's good to have you back." Nitro mockingly cries, "I couldn't have had a nicer eulogy! WHAT A RUSH!" Classic line. MNM challenge number one contenders Thrillseekers. The match is on.

We go to our second break of the evening, and when we come back, we see Dean Hill and Al Snow at the desk. They confirm "Danny Davis has changed the show" and it's now MNM vs Thrillseekers for the number one contendership. We have the entrance of Deuce Shade, as Dean and Al let us know on August 12th at Six Flags, it's Brent Albright and Chris Benoit vs Ken Anderson and Daniel Puder. At this time, Beast walks in front of the desk and blocks  the camera view. Beast is a large black male from Brooklyn. He "broke his hand" in a match last week, which left Deuce Shade to fend for himself in a match. Deuce disposes of Beast's tag team partner Osama, and then gets up in Beast's face. Last week, Beast said about Deuce, "Am I my brother's keeper? Deuce, you ain't my brother. And I ain't your keeper!" So this week, Deuce says, "I ain't your brother, I ain't your keeper, but anytime you like, I can be your opponent." Beast sells the broken hand and backs away.  I love the episodic nature of Heyman's tv's. Everything flows from one week to the next, nothing is for happenstance, and everything has meaning.

Backstage, MNM are leaving their locker room and are confronted by Brent Albright. In a great tough guy promo, Albright let's Nitro and Mercury know, he's a fighting champion and he'll wrestle them anyday with the title on the line.

So when we come back, we learn the stakes have gone up, and now the MNM vs Thrillseekers match is not just for the number one tag team contendership, but the person who scores the pinfall will be the number one contender to Albight's title. Good stuff.

This was a hell of a TV match. Back and forth, good moves, solid wrestling, great action.
Melina and Maria had a great cat fight which saw Melina shoot deck the trainer. The match went 30 plus minutes and featured the first ref bump since Heyman took over, all to set up two referees being in the ring.

After the skirt raising cat fight, MNM was distracted, and Thrillseekers hit a double super kick. They both covered Nitro and Mercury, and three seconds later The Thrillseekers pulled off a major victory.

So the announcer says, "the winners of the fall and new number one contenders, The Thrillseekers!" Then his voice changes and he says, half-asking, "the new number one contender is Johnny Jeter and Matt Capotelli?" and we're off the air.

All in all, a great show, better than any Raw or Smackdown lately. Exellent booking by Heyman, who has shown his ability to do Smackdown, ECW, and now small wrestling better than anyone else. The cliffhanger at the end was brilliant. Heyman can now take OVW in so many directions.

P. S.
Tough Enough 3 champion Matt Cappotelli suffered a broken leg yesterday while working an OVW house show against OVW Tag Team champions The Blonde Bombers.
