PAUL ELLERING REVEALS HOW THE LEGION OF DOOM MADE SURE UNWILLING OPPONENTS SOLD THEIR MOVES
By WorldWrestlingInsnaity.com

The 108th edition of JG’s Radio Free Insanity is on the air and available right now at WorldWrestlingInsanity.com (Flash and MP3 download) This week's show features one of wrestling's most well known managers of all time - "Precious" Paul Ellering.

James Guttman starts things off by talking about Precious Paul.  Ellering was a tough guy manager in an era where managers were pipsqueaks, weasels, and fountains of misinformation.  With a strong body building background, Paul broke into the business and had some well known feuds as a wrestler against men like Jesse Ventura (who JG feels is the most successful crossover wrestler ever).  Although Ellering spends a good amount of time talking about his wrestling and Jess during his uncut shoot, it wasn't until Ole Anderson made him a manager that things went to a new level.  Alongside the Road Warriors (Hawk and former ClubWWI.com guest Animal), Precious Paul ran over some of the most well known names in all of pro wrestling.

Aside from the ring, Paul is well known for his experience with dog sledding and racing the Iditarod.  A few years back, Ellering's race garnered major media attention and many worried when he was nearly blinded during the race.  His goggle lens froze to his eye and many worried he would be blinded.  Now in, one of his first interviews since that near-tragic accident, he speaks out on it, plus the night he took his racing opponent - a blind woman - to see WWE live, and how he met Triple H and others.

Precious Paul Ellering's full ClubWWI.com shoot interview went on for 52 minutes and included talk of:  The Original Legion of Doom, Training Under Bob Backlund and The Iron Sheik, Memories of Michael "Hawk" Hegstrand, Feelings on Demolition, Working Against a Young Jesse Ventura, Nearly Going Blind While Racing The Iditarod, Debuting at WrestleMania, Ric Flair, Billy Graham, Ken Patera, Legion of Doom 2000 With Sunny, Legion of Doom 2005 With Heidenreich, Working The First War Games, WWE's Misuse of LOD, The Historic Rock Tavern, PaulEllering.com, his book, and More

Remember, Paul is one of well over 100 stars spanning countless generations you can hear uncut on ClubWWI.com. Some of these names include: Jerry Lawler, Vince Russo, Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan, Kevin Nash, The Iron Sheik, Sid Vicious, Paul Bearer, Bruno Sammartino, Tito Santana, Al Snow, Tod Gordon, Charlie Haas, Tom Prichard, Jacques Rougeau, Tammy Sytch, Too Cold Scorpio, Ole Anderson, Kid Kash, Ivan Koloff, John Heidenreich, Jimmy Hart, Jimmy Valiant, Bad News Brown, Nick Bockwinkel, Dory Funk Jr, Diamond Dallas Page, Rob Conway, Sylvain Grenier, Buff Bagwell, Christian Cage, Jazz, Demolition Ax and Smash, Koko B. Ware, Ricky Morton, Dustin Rhodes, Damian Demento, Fred "Shockmaster" Ottman, Cpl. Kirchner, One Man Gang, Scott Steiner, Shawn Stasiak, Ted DiBiase, Ivory, Chris Masters, Elix Skipper, Kamala, Samoa Joe, Giant Bernard, Bill DeMott, Juvi "Juice" Guerrera, Nora "Molly Holly" Greenwald, Nick Dinsmore, Harley Race, Bull Buchanan, D-Lo Brown, Road Warrior Animal, Missing Link, Slick, Nidia, George Steele, Christy Hemme, Disco Inferno, Vito, Steve Blackman, AJ Styles, Chris Daniels, Dennis Stamp, Shawn Daivari, Kevin Sullivan, B.G. James, Ron Killings, Earl and Dave Hebner, Spike Dudley, Rodney Mack, Larry Zybszko, Rick Steiner, and Mae Young.

James then speaks a bit on this week's Smackdown Insanity, Jeff Hardy's situation, and the next uncut interview.  The new guest goes up tomorrow (Monday 3/17) and will take you behind the scenes of today's wrestling scene like you wouldn't believe.  Guttman urges everyone to stay sober for at least 64 minutes on St. Patrick's Day so you can hear this new shoot.  If not, just check it out on Tuesday after you come down from your hangover.  You won't want to miss this chance to get an education on wrestling from someone who will definitely teach ya a thing or two about how things work.

With that, Guttman cues up clips from Paul's 52 minute shoot.

James Guttman introduces Paul Ellering to the show.  He refers to him as one of the industry's true "old school tough guys."  Paul thanks James for the introduction and JG asks him to fill the listeners in on how things are in his world.  Ellering says that he's been raising his kids.  They're all teens now and his oldest daughter is in her second year of college.  Also, he owns a supper club on a lake (The Rock Tavern) with his family and still runs his dogs for dog sled racing.  He has a few races this winter.  Plus, his 13 year old son ran his first marathon recently and Paul ran with him.  He says it was a nice way to bond.

James brings up the style that the Road Warriors wrestled.  They got over by steamrolling people.  Guttman asks if Paul and the LOD ever ran into opponents who didn't want to sell for them.  JG specifically mentions the AWA given the old school mentality of some there.  Ellering explains that you can't stop the LOD in wrestling, if you can't stop them in real life.  They just did what they decided.

"Oh yeah.  We did, but, we'd, at that point, you have to handle it in the ring and if they can't stop you, well they just can't stop you.  We went to the ring and there were a couple of times where the people we were wrestling, they weren't happy about it.  They wanted it to go this way and maybe it was supposed to go that way and we just changed the direction as we went.  If you can't do anything about it, you can't do anything about it.  Either that or just jump out of the ring and grab chairs.

James Guttman tells Paul how WWE's website has just listed the top ten tag teams and the L.O.D. is atop the list.  asks about the introduction of Rocco The Ventriloquist Dummy to the Legion of Doom. When Animal appeared on ClubWWI.com, he didn’t speak highly of the angle, which many thought was done to discredit the Roadies. Paul's thoughts on it are:

"It was just a point to, uh, the office at that time thought the guys just can't get no sympathy. It was just something thrown in there to give them a perk. Maybe work something around it, but nothing ever came of it. "

JG brought up all the rumors at the time about angles involving the dummy, but none happened. Ellering said that they could have done a lot with it, but didn't do anything. He says it was the basis of some good movies, but "if you're gonna do it, you've got to do it."

Don't forget.
