PREDICTIONS FOR WRESTLEMANIA 24 CARD, AND MORE

……

I just came across this Daytona Beach News Journal article, even though it is a few days old, thought it was worth a read:

My current Wrestlemania 24 card

The day of Nov. 3 (Nov. 2 locally) is nearing to purchase tickets for WrestleMania 24 on March 30, 2008 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

On that note, with several injuries topped by John Cena, let's re-examine the potential card.

Here's what I had from my April 12, 2007 column: The Undertaker vs. John Cena; Triple H vs. Ric Flair; Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage; Jeff/Matt Hardy vs. Paul London/Brian Kendrick; Mickie James vs. Victoria; Chris Jericho vs. Edge; Batista vs. Mr. Kennedy; Bobby Lashley vs. Mark Henry; Six-man ladder match (Randy Orton, Shelton Benjamin, HBK, CM Punk, Johnny Nitro and Rey Mysterio); Carlito/RVD vs. Umaga/The Great Khali.

When I made these predictions, it was totally coincidental that I didn't have the late Chris Benoit on the card. Weird.

In June, PWTorch.com had these predicted matches: Triple H vs. John Cena; The Undertaker vs. Edge; Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton.

Recent Internet postings had these predicted matches: The Undertaker vs. Edge and HHH vs. Ken Kennedy.

Here are my current predictions:

1. Triple H vs. Randy Orton: I can't see Orton dropping the title this close to WrestleMania 24. He needs to build up some credibility as world champion.

2. HBK vs. Mr. Kennedy: Legend vs. future star. It's strong on paper, and the buildup would be fun.

3. The Undertaker vs. Edge: Seems like WWE will focus on wrestlers having success at WrestleManias.

4. Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho: I can see Flair putting Jericho over. I almost made this Flair vs. Sting, with reports of Sting retiring from TNA at the end of the year, but decided against it.

5. Batista and Bobby Lashley vs. Big Daddy V and The Great Khali: Why not? Imagine the weight and strength in the ring.

6. Ladder match (Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, John Morrison, Rey Mysterio): Close to what I had April 12, but the Hardys and Carlito instead of Orton, HBK and Punk.

7. Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix: Phoenix will dominate the women's division until WM24, and James presents the best challenge.

8. CM Punk vs. Finlay vs. MVP: Triple-threat match full of talent.

9. Cade/Murdoch vs. Brian London and Paul Kendrick: Good tag-team match.

10. Kane vs. Umaga: Two big guys.

On the sidelines: The Miz, Hardcore Holly, Chuck Palumbo, The Highlanders, Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes, to name a few.

With 10 matches, at least two would have to go -- likely the last two I listed.

WRESTLEMANIA 24 REMINDERS

Each week, leading up to WM 24 in 2008 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, I'll post any new information here. You can count on this being your only weekly source for WM 24/Orlando news.

When: March 30, 2008.

What: Five-day celebration of the biggest annual event in sports entertainment.

Where: Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Outside?: Yes. WWE has had only one other completely outdoor WM (WM 9 in 1993 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas).

Vince McMahon, commenting to me March 21 about the weather factor: "We have little concern about the weather. It's worth the risk. WrestleMania will go on, regardless of the weather." Don't worry, Vince. It won't rain.

March 30 weather: From my research, from 1997 to present, the average daily precipitation is 0.04 with a historical range of 0.00 to 0.21. Average temperatures from 60 degrees to 81 degrees. Rain in 1997 and 2001, but not after 7 p.m.

March 28-April 1 weather: From my research, from 1997 to present, the average daily precipitation is 0.13 with a historical range of 0.00 to 2.25. There is an 18 percent chance of a precipitation day -- which is nine days out of 50 in historical record. Rain in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2007 (all odd years). And next year is 2008, so that's good pattern-wise.

Expected crowd: We're now up to 65,000, with an outside shot at 70,000.

Tickets: Not yet on sale. WWE said tickets will go on sale Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Amway Arena box office in Orlando, all Florida Ticketmaster ticket centers and FYE stores, charge by phone at (407) 839-3900 and online at ticketmaster.com. For groups of 20 or more, order now at (407) 849-2014. Tickets will not be on sale at the site, the Florida Citrus Bowl. Tickets are $250, $150, $95, $55 and $40. Prices include $5 per ticket facility fee. A limited number of platinum ringside seats are available for $750, and you may keep those seats.

Special ticket pre-sale: A special ticket pre-sale will take place the day before tickets go on sale worldwide. That date will be Nov. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Ticketmaster ticket centers located in FYE stores. That includes the one here in Daytona Beach at the Volusia Mall.

Other possible ways to get tickets: Visit wwe.com/inside/overtheropes/news/wrestlemaniareading

Expected profit: $25 million in new direct spending for Central Florida. WWE sources say Detroit made $30 million in revenue on this year's event.

Hall of Fame: The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be March 29, 2008. The location is reportedly the Amway Arena, but that has not been confirmed. Possible entrants could be Ric Flair, Randy "Macho Man" Savage and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. Recent rumored names are the Von Erichs, Ted DiBiase, Mae Young, Gordon Solie, Rick Rude and Bob Uecker.

WEEKLY HEADLINES AND MY REACTS

"The Big Show" will be at Amway Arena in Orlando on Nov. 9th. REACT: Wow. A first time a wrestler will solo a show (kidding).

TNA's Dixie Carter reportedly parties with her wrestlers. REACT: If true, good for her. It's good for company morale.

WWE releases Kristal Marshall. The rumor mill says she disliked a story line to be in a Lita-Edge like tandem with Edge to get back at Teddy Long. REACT: The story line would have made sense. While Kristal has a right to be hesitant with this story line, it led to her WWE release.

Lex Luger's reported health problems. REACT: I'm a huge Luger fan. I'm glad to see he's turned his life around and hope he gets better.

Jillian saves Mickie James' life. REACT: Wow. You never hear about a "face" saving a "heel" in real life. Maybe because it never happens, and when it does, it's news. Good job, Jillian.

Sable speaks. REACT: While she sounds like she is bound for TNA wrestling, I expect her to follow Brock Lesnar around. I'd be OK with her bashing divas wrestling if she was a great technician in the ring.

Brock Lesnar and UFC official. REACT: Sable better hope he doesn't take a beating. If his first fight is indeed Feb. 2, the day before the Super Bowl, that will attract a huge viewing audience.

Six weeks of no WWE PPVS between Dec. 16 (Armageddon) and Jan. 27 (Royal Rumble). REACT: Good. Let the wrestlers enjoy the holidays and give the fans a breather.

Cow Palace fiasco. REACT: Wow. Promoters need to pay wrestlers up front. Case closed.

The insiguri. REACT: It's one of my favorite names for a move, and it's a cool move.

The Undertaker vs. Chris Masters. REACT: That'll be the last time Masters doesn't sell a move against a ring veteran. However, I don't think Undertaker was justified to rough Masters up.

TNA talent frustrated. REACT: An extra hour and wrestlers are complaining about lack of work and TV time and complaining the women's division takes up too much time? The business is what it is. Deal with it.

Stone Cold Steve Austin bashes TNA wrestling and praises Flair. REACT: A retired wrestler, still with WWE, shouldn't bash the competition. Good for him for praising Flair, though.
