Philly Woman Big Hit As Pro Wrestler
Sara Del Rey moved to Philadelphia to learn a new career: as a queen of the Pro Wrestling ring.
Del Rey has done that in a profession long dominated by men.
Recently, she spent some time with Fox 29’s John Anderson and took him behind the ropes of the popular entertainment offshoot.
Also known as Death Rey, Sara trains in South Philadelphia but travels the world wrestling.
She has competed in Japan, Germany, and Australia to name a few areas, and she says women's wrestling is bigger and more respected in those countries.
Nine years ago, Del Rey left northern California for a chance to hit the mats in Philadelphia..
While other little girls were dreaming of rock stars and heart throbs, Sara used to idolize Hulk Hogan.
"I was always a tomboy,” she admits.
Del Rey trains five hours a day, many of those hours with her tag team partner Emily.
When asked if wrestling is fake, or even a sport, Sara says it's an exhibition and it's physical.
She's had several injuries to prove it, including dislocated shoulders and kneecaps.
if you'd like to see Sara wrestle, your chance is this weekend a big wrestling event will be held at the Arena in south Philly.
The matches are tonight and Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon.
