It's recap time, I just returned from ROH's "A night of tribute", and here are the results, and observations from the card.

In the warmup matches prior to bell time,

LACEY defeated ALLISON DANGER
First off, Lacey needs a xanax.  Bad.  She is nuts.  Danger is just plain hot.  Both of these women competed nicely.  I believe Lacey won with a DDT.  Danger sold it pretty well coming out of the contest.

SHANE HAGADORN & SMASH BRANTLEY defeated THE DIXIE BROTHERS
There is a reason why Shane Hagadorn has continually not made it in to the main lineup at ROH.  He sucks.  The others, unmentionable.

Now, for the card itself.

The entire ROH locker room comes out at the beginning, and a 10 bell salute is rang for Latino Heat, Eddie Guerrero.  It was kind of an eerie pause after the salute before the locker room returned to the back, and we got business underway.

THE RING CREW EXPRESS of DUNN & MARCOS defeated KID MAKAZE & JASON BLADE
I assume the RCE is ROH's version of the Rock N' Roll Express.  Anyway, this was my first time seeing all four of these guys.  Not too bad.  Dunn & Marcos were obviously more experienced and ready for this one.  The win was a elbow by Marcos after Dunn pushed Blade from off the top of his shoulders, so it was a mid-air elbow drop from the top rope.  It looked very sweet.

RICKY REYES defeated ERIC MATLOCK
The jobber took it to the Rottweiler member, and Smokes was losing his mind, throwing his bat around, almost clocking Bobby Cruise, the ring announcer.  Reyes was able to reverse a body slam in to a modified dragon sleeper to get the submission victory.

JIMMY RAVE defeated DAVEY ANDREWS
Prince Nana said if the crowd threw toilet paper at Rave, it would be the last time he worked in ROH.  Toilet paper was flung everywhere when Rave hit the ring.  Andrews did provide some punishment on the Embassy crown jewel, but Rave got the win with a pedigree.  What happened to this new submission finisher I read Rave having, since he lost his Rave clash?

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS defeated MATT SYDAL & A.J. STYLES
The winner earned a shot later in the night at ROH World champ Bryan Danielson.  Styles and Daniels fought like gangbusters, and this was an amazing contest.  This match in itself was worth the effort to attend, and worth ordering the card on DVD, no questions asked.  Sydal took some SICK BUMPS, which I'll talk about in a minute.  Daniels did a amazing stall suplex on Styles, holding him up there for what seemed to be upwards of 60 seconds.  Sydal did a moonsault from the top rope to the floor on both Daniels and Styles, and on the way down, cracked his face on the apron.  How he did not bust his face open, or end up basically without a broken neck is beyond me.  The kid impressed me, major league, throughout this contest.  Sydal continued to impress by hitting a modified flip piledriver on the TNA X champion that almost got the dupe for the GenNext member, literally 2 3/4 before the save.  Daniels finally got the win when AJ was backdropped to the floor, and Sydal was set up for the BME  One last thing, I would go to a convent if I could have Allison Danger be my nun.  Damn, she was hot.

Bryan Danielson came out, introduced by Gary Michael Cappetta.  In a very condescending tone, Danielson believed it was unfair for Daniels to fight him while he was fresh.  So, he hand-picked an opponent.  Azrieal.  But before the bell could ring, Pelle Primeau got in the champ's face, and challenged him.  Danielson said when he graduated from school and grew a few inches, we could talk.  Primeau then slapped the champ, Danielson told Azrieal to wait in the corner, and then made Primeau tap out in under 10 seconds to, from what I could see, looked like a million dollar dream time hold.  Danielson looked really pissed that this kid tried to show him up.

BRYAN DANIELSON defeated AZRIEAL
This was a comedic match.  Danielson bent Azrieal's arm in ways that are almost too grotesque to describe. He wins the match with the cattle mutilation submission.  Damn, that thing really looks like it hurts.  First time I really knew the name of his finisher.

Sports Plus hosts Ring of Honor again on Saturday night, Feburary 11th, 2006.

HOMICIDE defeated COLT CABANA
This one was ugly.  Ultra ugly.  Smokes got involved.  Grim Reefer at ringside got involved.  Cabana was a bloody mess.  Homicide stabbed him in the face with a fork, repeatedly.  That's right, a FORK.  Cabana got a superplex off the top rope on the Notorious 187, landing the Bed Sty native on to a chair.  But, by far the sickest bump of the night was both Colt and Homicide going through the ringside table from the top rope.  They both were trying to put the other through the table, and it turned out to be a draw.  Homicide won the match by literally choking out Cabana with a wire hanger.  The jobbers of ROH and officials had to come out to get Homicide off Cabana.  After this one, I am betting Colt wants to go back to Heat and lose to Eugene again.  It was really ugly.

Homicide wore an Eddie Guerrero tee-shirt to the ring.  Before leaving, he put the tee-shirt on a chair in the middle of the ring.  He and Smokes saluted Latino Heat as the first half of the show ended.

MILANO COLLECTION AT defeated CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI
This one was boring from the start in my opinion.  Collection won with an armbar submission.  How Nigel McGuiness is having so many problems with Castagnoli is beyond me.  I was not impressed, but that's just my opinion.

AUSTIN ARIES & RODERICK STRONG defeated SAMOA JOE & JAY LETHAL
Strong showed how strong he is by hitting a sick backbreaker on the big, angry Samoan.  This one was back and forth on all counts, but Lethal took the brunt of the punishment.  It was kind of odd how Joe stayed on the apron for the bulk of the match while Lethal was getting pounded.  After two backbreakers by Strong, Aries did a tribute to Eddie by hitting a SICK frog splash for the 1, 2, 3.  Aries & Strong are gettting a tag title shot for this win.

It came with a price.  Jimmy Rave attacked GenerationNext at the rampway, and pedigreed Strong on the ramp.  It's a leadin for the December 3rd Steel cage match, something Nana had spoken about prior to Rave's match.

BRYAN DANIELSON retained the ROH World title over CHRISTOPHER DANIELS
An amazing contest.  Human chess.  Great moves on both parts.  Both men are well deserving of their reputations as consummate performers.  Danielson showed how tough he is by kicking out of the BME.  Daniels was cut open from the blows by the Dragon, he had come in to the matches tonight with a bandage on the top of his head, it was opened up by the champion.  This contest was a submission fan's dream, multiple submission attempts by both men, with near escapes on all counts.  Danielson won the match by literally knocking out Daniels with what appeared to be a vicious blow to the skull.  Daniels was either knocked silly from the blow, or did an academy award's job of selling the effects of the Dragon's damage.

All in all, another tremendous show.  I picked up the Kobashi DVDs as well while there, so I got some more ROH to ponder.  For now, talk to me about my review of "A night of tribute."  Email me to discuss this at [email protected]
