Evening, I attended the Becky Lynch meet and greet at Toys R Us in Rego Park NY
today and wanted to pass along a few dissatisfied
words.
I
arrived this morning a little after 8am. The event itself was scheduled to
start at 10am and finish at 12pm. There was already a line of people waiting to
meet Becky. I called the store last week and was told that wristbands would be
given out to 250 people to meet her. Once in line I felt pretty confident that I
would be meeting Becky. About a half hour into waiting I asked one of their
employees who was standing outside about the wristbands he told me he didn't
know anything about it. Clearly this was a sign of bad things to
come.
The
store itself was on the second floor of a mini shopping center, fifteen minutes
before noon a few employees including one that looked like a manager started
talking about cutting off the line because there wasn't enough time. Around noon
they finally decided to hand out the wristbands which I guess was to "hard" to
do originally, after running out of maybe 20 wristbands they gave out orange
stickers so when you went upstairs you could show it.
I
finally got inside the store around 12:10pm, Toys R Us had another "genius"
employee tell us that we weren't allowed to take pictures with her and that they
ran out of 8x10's for her to sign, they had someone make copies of her 8x10 on
regular black and white paper. We were told that we could purchase her action
figure and have her sign it. Seeing how they screwed this all up there was no
way I would be buying a figure just to have signed.
Becky
was very sweet & likable, some old "security" guard who nasty rushed me
away before I could really interact with her.
Personally I'm pissed off with how this turned out, I've attended
so many of these meet and greets that I would have to say this was one of the
worst. Venues like this have no idea how many fans come out to these events.
This Toys R Us was clearly unprepared. I saw people who were in the back of the
line earlier in the morning somehow walking away with autographs, clearly they
cut the line. How do you run out of 8x10's? What's the point of telling
customers over the phone wristbands would be handed out to keep things in order
and moving smooth? If you were in the very front this morning then you had a
good time meeting Becky but for me personally I think this was a joke. I would
never attend another event at this store in the future. This Toys R Us and their
staff were pathetic. ~ David
