New York Comic Con had a solid wrestling presence. A few were part of the NYCC celebrity lineup, while a few were brought in by vendors.

NYCC guest celebrities
Britt Baker looked fantastic and so did the title belt she brought. She said she remembered me from the Squared Circle Expo last year.
Mick Foley was early and in great spirits. He had a Mankind mask and Dude Love glasses and bandanna, which allowed everyone to get Three Faces of Foley. I asked Mick if he ever got tired of putting on the gimmicks and he replied “Never…there are much worse ways to make money.” He said he’s living in Florida and doing well.
I first met Jungleboy Jack Perry many years ago when he wrestled at Resistance Pro in Chicago. I shared a few stories I had interviewing his dad, the late Luke Perry and he seemed genuinely touched.

Vendor guests
Nerds Clothing brought in Rebel, Kip Sabian, Penelope Ford, Danhausen and Colt Cabana.
I talked to Rebel about meeting her years ago at a horror convention and a few times more recently.
Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford were late due to traffic, but they were very apologetic and fan-friendly once they arrived.
I talked to Danhausen about his author/artist father Brian Danhausen. Many years ago at Motor City Comic Con, Brian told me about his son’s interest in wrestling. Fast forward to recent years and that son is doing great things.
Colt Cabana recognized me from the Chicago wrestling scene. He’s looking great and says he is doing great.

Heroes Hideout featured Ron Simmons, The Godfather and Rikishi. (They also had Ezno, Matt Cardona and Brian Myers, but I missed them.) The Godfather immediately called out “Jay Leno,” when he saw me. He tagged me with that years ago, but he isn’t the first to make that connection. Then he pointed Rom Simmons at me and asked him. Simmons agreed. When I said someone earlier told me I looked like David Lynch, Simmons said, “Damn. Forget that crap. You’re Jay Leno.” Then they called out to Rikishi for his thoughts and he agreed about Leno and not Lynch.

On a related note, the legendary television horror host Svengoolie told me to relay his greetings to Mick Foley. A big wrestling fan, Sven (Rich Koz) was very busy and the schedules conflicted, but he really wanted to meet the wrestlers.

It was a great weekend with some really fun wrestlers. Everyone was really cool and seemed to be enjoying themselves, which makes it so much better for the fans.
