RESPONSES OF DREAM REUNION RANT

…..

I have been told that Jerry Sags, Jim Cornette, Buff Bagwell, Jerry Lawler and of course Steve Williams will not be in IN.  And what about Ricky Morton, we haven't heard, did he get out of jail??

It saddens me that I had to get crazy, but I am just tired of having people saying talent will be there, when they know they won't.
If this promoter was an honest promoter, he would have removed the names of wrestlers who he knew wouldn't be at his event, such as Lawler and Steve Williams, at the time.

Just be honest with your fans, and events like this won't have to happen.

I will share just a few letters I have received, believe me a ton of them have come in.  I have even received some letters from wrestlers, who asked that I don't print the letters.

Ms. Makropoulos:

I am a long time wrestling fan (20 years) who currently resides in the Chicagoland area.  I had every intention of making the 3 1/2 hour drive to Kokomo this morning for the Dream Reunion event today.  After reading about the events involving Dr. Death (& also finding out that Jim Cornette will not be there and the ambiguity of Jimmy Hart's presence), I have elected not to go.

I had the opportunity to meet Doc at an IWA Mid-South event in Midlothian, Illinois a while back and I must say that he is one of the classiest and kindest gentlemen I have met in pro wrestling (which is saying something because, as a whole, I have found the workers themselves to be top notch guys).

I wish promoters understood that independent wrestling fans, for the most part, are a rather rabid lot.  We don't need a ton of different stars or a huge name (EG: Bret Hart, Roddy Piper) to be at a show or convention.  However, we do need an honest lineup in advance.

Again, thank you for being out in front of these events and saving me the time, fuel, and other expenses, I would have otherwise paid for today.

I have met Steve Williams during an autograph session at Carson's Pro Wrestling World in Allentown,PA. with Buddy Roberts, Missy Hyatt and John Tatum. He is a class act and it is a shame that there are promoters out there that will do this. While this promoter is making excuses, I have a question that you can ask him/ her. I have looked at the list of wrestlers that are supposed to be at this event. 2 names that I saw were Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson-The Rock and Roll Express. Now unless something drastic has changed, I heard through www.Wrestlingfigs.com that Ricky Morton is in jail for failing to pay child support. Yet, these promoters still have his name up there  if he is going to show up. There is no message saying "Due to circumstances beyond our control, Ricky Morton will not be at our event.". THAT IS FALSE ADVERTISING AS WELL!!!!!  I have met the Rock and Roll Express and they are good men. It is a shame about Ricky and even though this was his own doing, promoters should not be putting his name up on the list when I am sure that he will not be there. I wonder what this promoter has to say about this misinformation that he is putting up. Georgiann, unless you have heard anything new on Ricky Morton's situation, I doubt he will be there. This promoter is misleading the wrestling fans.

As angry as you are right now, Please don't stop posting the autograph signings. You do a wonderful job and as a fan of your site, I appreciate what you do. To Steve Williams, I thank you for coming to the UWF Reunion Show in February. You are a Class Act. You did not deserve this to happen to you. Your book is fantastic and I hope that one day, We will meet again. Georgiann, I hope that one day that I will get a chance to meet you as well.

Stephen, don't worry I will not stop listing the signings and conventions, but I will be more careful when I do.  And I will try to call the talent to make sure they will be at the Conventions when they are listed.
Because I feel responsible when I plug these events to be honest with my readers.
Right now, I am investigating another Convention, I may have another update soon.

I have received a few notes from other promoters worrying that my ranting might hurt their events.  Most of the promoters are honest and above board, such as George Collectibles who is having his Signamania 1 on the 13th.  George is a class act and runs excellent events and should be commended.  There are only a few bad apples that fall from the tree.  Maybe if I start bringing out the bad apples, they will change their ways.

I have to tell you I was extremely upset about the LI Convention in August.  I was totally behind that event because of my friendship with Scott Epstein.  I was even upset with Scott, asking him, couldn't you tell that it was going to be a disaster?  It was totally overbooked in a very small venue, that just didn't work.

Georgie,

My name is Heath Pittman.  I was given your link from a friend of mine, by
the name of Harry White.  I have loved your site and have enjoyed your
postings.

The thing I wanted to mention was that I think you should continue to push
to the promoters wife to get the answers that we all would want to know.
There are a lot of these conventions that are ongoing and a lot of them are
not on the up and up and maybe if we had someone investigating them for what
it is, we will have less of these guys trying to scam us.

Just a thought, keep up the great work.

Heath

Hi Georgie,

I read your post about Steve Williams being booked and not honored his trans for the event. Terrible. I've been promoting events for only a year now. I am 22 years old and am trying my hardest to do well in the promoting business. I donate 10% of all my ticket sales to the youth wrestling team of a local high school. Both of my little brothers are involved in the youth teams and enjoy it very much. What sickens me is that people are out to promote these huge events and use such huge names to broaden their bank accounts and could care less about any charity or youth group they claim are out to support. When I saw what happened to Steve I wanted to puke. Someone who has given so much to the business and deserves so much respect is screwed like that? I think that negative advertising for promoters and promotions that are known to be in the wrong with false advertising and BS stories is the perfect solution. I'd be happy to help with some sort of project that would help eliminate this garbage that plagues the wrestling community. Wrestling has been a huge part of my life for a very long time. I have up a marriage to be part of the wrestling business as I was given the decision: Wrestling or our Wedding. I decided that I had to be part of the wrestling business and I am very happy that I decided to pursue my dream. Now I would have to assume that most people in this business would have the same passion that I do. How could someone risk such terrible publicity and let down so many people by pulling stunts such as the one involving Steve Williams? That question baffles me as I sit here and shake my head as I type this. I want you to know that I am willing to help out as much as possible to help solve this problem. Perhaps we can't do too much but lets say a group of us are able to disband at least a few shady deals a year... that is a few less that people will be tricked in to taking part in. I am not using this as a platform to promote my shows...I won't even talk about my shows that are coming up. What I want is the good people in this business to band together and stop the lies and scandals.

Yours truly,  Dave Sabick  -  Heavy on Wrestling

It's so sad.  I'm glad you took the time to sound off.  At one point, I even considered going to this event.  Now, I'm glad I changed my mind.  It isn't worth my flying out or driving long distances to these events due to the lies of who is appearing.  Losing my money is too risky.

I just read your posting about Kokomo and a friend and myself had planned on going but don't think we will now because of the drive ( 4.5 hrs ) . I don't think we could handle another disappointment, Omega Sports has left a bad taste in my mouth. After my e-mail to you on Monday about that experience we're gun shy about going to any more signings.  Keep up the good work, your website is the only one I follow on a daily basis.

Thank You  BK from Akron OH

Georgie,

Applaud you fully for your recent posting/rant regarding the dishonest promoter.

There is never sufficient honest-accurate-down-to-the-facts journalistic reporting in our world of shysters and make-a-quick-buck schemes.

Applaud your efforts fully and encourage you to continue on in your excellence!!

I was just curious what you have been hearing....you mentioned a lot of complaints. This show is a four hour drive from Columbus, OH and I debated whether to go to it or not. My dad's birthday is on Oct 9th and my family decided to celebrate this weekend, which made the decision for me. If not for that, however, I probably would have gone.

Happy Birthday to your Dad, Mike, it appears it was a good idea you stayed home.

I read the heated response that the Rob Reeder's wife sent you about your report on Dr Death and the Fan Fest in Kokomo.  I just want to say that they may have problems communicating with all of the talent or they simply might be over their heads.

I just wanted to let you know that I was booked for that show, out of the blue, by the promoter through myspace.   I didn't contact him.  He contacted me.  They even put a post on their own message board under my name (without my permission) advertising my being there.

However, for the last two weeks my messages asking where and when to show up and what my match was scheduled to be, went unanswered. Needless to say, I decided last week to call it a wash and not attend.

In my experience, when a promoter doesn't return messages, the wrestler isn't getting paid.  I may be wrong in this case.  Obviously, at the very least the promotion has some issues communicating well with talent.

I had a group of folks who were coming thanks to my personal promotion of the event.   On top of that, I could have had other bookings as well but I turned them down.

BTW  I would love to hear from any fans who do attend the above event.

I also want to thank everyone for your suppot of our website.  Our readers are the BEST...  Stay tuned I will be giving away one more Razor Ramon figure shortly...
