Ring of Honor issued the following:
The Women of Honor took center stage for the first time last night, and the outstanding female athletes dazzled the rabid crowd at Baltimore’s William J Myers Pavilion and set the bar high for future Women of Honor shows.
The ground-breaking event featured five action-packed matches, including a highly physical and intense contest between the undefeated Kelly Klein and Candice LeRae, and a two-out-of-three-falls bout between rivals Mandy Leon and Hania The Huntress.
A hard-hitting match between “Positively Poison” Taeler Hendrix and the enigmatic Crazy Mary Dobson got the show off to a hot start.
With the crowd firmly in her corner, Dobson nearly pulled off the upset, but the resilient Hendrix prevailed after hitting The Kiss Goodnight tombstone piledriver. Despite suffering the loss, Dobson received a standing ovation from the fans.
Veda Scott defeated Jenny Rose, but to the surprise of no one who is familiar with the duplicitous Scott, she did so in less-than-honorable fashion
Scott, who brought a microphone into the ring to talk trash to Rose during the match, took advantage of the referee’s positioning to nail Rose in the head with the mic out of the referee’s view. Scott followed up with The Plex Express for the win.
In a wild six-woman tag match, Kennadi Brink, Amber Gallows and Deonna Purrazzo defeated Faye Jackson, Solo Darling and Sumie Sakai. Brink, making her Women of Honor debut, scored the victory for her team with the Brink Butterfly Suplex on Jackson.
Next up was the much-anticipated two-out-of-three falls match between Leon and Hania. They had faced each other twice before, with each woman winning once.
Their rubber match more than lived up to the hype. Hania pinned Leon to win the first fall, and Leon pinned Hania to force a third and deciding fall. The thrilling, back-and-forth contest ended with Leon making Hania to tap out to Havana Dreams.
After the match, Leon and Hania embraced in a show of mutual respect as the appreciative crowd applauded them both. The feel-good scene was too much for the attention-starved Hendrix to take.
Hendrix came to the ring with a chair in hand and had some harsh words for Leon and Hania. After issuing a cryptic challenge, Hendrix left the chair in the ring as she exited, telling the women to “keep it as a going away present.”
There was a big-fight atmosphere surrounding the main event, as Klein, accompanied by BJ Whitmer, faced her toughest challenge to date in international star LeRae.
LeRae came extremely close to handing Klein her first loss, but she ultimately fell victim to Klein’s aptly named The End of Match guillotine choke.
The highlight of the match was a move that resulted in both women crashing through a table outside the ring, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
During the match, the always despicable Whitmer got in a cheap shot on LeRae behind the referee’s back, but he paid for it later when LeRae leveled him with a rolling senton off the apron.
After the match, Whitmer demanded that ring announcer Scarlett Bordeaux get in the ring and properly announce Klein as the winner. Whitmer continued to berate Bordeaux, who finally had enough of Whitmer’s bullying and slapped him in the face.
That proved to be a costly mistake. Whitmer order Klein to assault Bordeaux, and Klein did so with a nasty Michinoku Driver.
Sakai came out to make sure no more damage could be done, and Bordeaux was carried from the ring by officials.
Despite the event ending on a sour note thanks to Whitmer and Klein, the first-ever Women of Honor show was undoubtedly a rousing success.
